Great opening show of the tour. Loved the relaxed atmosphere of Manchester.
Pilate?! I think I went a little crazy for that one!
We were down front by Mike as usual, loads of pointing and picks hitting the floor in front of us ;) lol
Did manage to get a pick from Eddie as a little keep sake too!

Overall a great opener and set the mood for what seems to be turning into a great summer

I'm still sorta leaning towards the first night being the better show, but maybe its just because I was a teeny bit drunk for it. I still remember every moment of the show but I'd had a few cocktails beforehand at Norweigan Blue in the Printworks.

Porch was absolutely KILLER. It seemed to go on forever without ever getting boring. It destroyed everyone in a good day haha.

I can't stop thinking about that version of Release though; one of the best I've ever heard.

This setlist had to have been written with me in mind - Release into Do The Evolution, Nothingman, Pilate, Given To Fly, 1/2 Full, Arms Aloft, RIFTW. The band totally read my mind!

How long were you in there for? I was so happy that we had seats this time around so we could chill out with drinks until about 8.30pm and then casually head to the arena which was about 2 mins away.

We went to the Norwegian Blue after the 2nd show. There were loads of fans from the gig, so the DJ was playing PJ song after PJ song! Everyone was on a high... was a great atmosphere!

What a week! I'm suffering from withdrawal symptoms... PJ withdrawal... Petty withdrawal... Springsteen withdrawal... London & Manchester withdrawal... I can't tell you how much of a bummer it will be to go back to work tomorrow.

Anyway... Thought I'd post this here - apologies if it's already been asked/answered, but I have too much Internet to catch up on!

At the end of this show (Manchester 1), the security seemed to be handing out something to those on the front row... It looked to me like CDs... Any ideas??

I think they were used tickets to allow people to keep them if they wanted them.

I was in there from 5pm until just after 6pm, waiting for a friend that lives in the area and was meeting us for dinner. We went to a place for a steak in the Printworks and then headed over to the Arena at 20:20 or so and walked into the standing area and got to about twenty from the front, in line with Mike.

I felt like that when they opened with it at the o2 Arena in 2009.

I enjoyed Go more as an opener on night two last week though.
  • Loved this show, set list was ok but nothing like night 2, had pretty decent seats and after Alive my friend and I ran down to the front, it was amazing being so close, Mike came over and threw a few pics, they landed on the floor and secturity refused to pick them up for me.

Then Eddie came over with a tamborine, he pointed at my mate, mouthed something to him and pointed again at him, mean time some dude from the back had pushed passed us and was all arms trying to get the damn thing. Eddie went to throw the tamborine but he completley missed! A guy on the floor got it and then passed it to the guy who pushed passed us! I at least managed to give the tamborine a hit as he showed it off! Won't forget that show, some great people there too!
  • Crowd ruined this show. As Eddie called them on night 2 "A bunch of accountants" - No atmosphere hardly for a fantastic set list. Up until I saw them at IoW this was my least favourite Pearl Jam show ever.

Only got seated tickets to this day, but at least the seats were pretty good (block 104, first rows). Loved the first day... very powerful way to kick off the tour with that Release, it was soooo good. And then do the evolution, cordurou, fixer, given to fly without stopping... awesome. I too went crazy during Pilate. Immortality was very intense as well, don't know if it was me, but it made my day.

I absolutely love Arms Aloft, which is one of my Strummer's favourite songs, but i got the impression that a lot of the MCR arena weren't responding to it? Maybe it was just the people seated around me, idk...

Finishing the first day with THAT alive and KORITFW... wow, i had never sung so much during a concert in my entire life, i have been to a few.

And i hope the band saw my portuguese flag flying high! :mrgreen:8-)8-)

    Garbage.

I was stood about 10 yards from the stage, in line with Mike, for both shows and the crowd was the same both nights.

    Exactly.

Ed's comments about "accountants" wasn't fair. He said it on the second night after they'd opened up with three loud and fast songs that got everyone going. The first night was a much slower burner and the crowd was no different from one night to the next.

And I expect there were plenty of people that did both shows anyway.

Unfortunately I wasn't at the second night...but the 'accountant' comment does seem pretty harsh...Even in the seats everyone seemed to be stood up and just up for it in general.

I also didn't take it as a negative thing when he said words along the lines of 'are you still there' because he said something very similar before the first encore at the O2 in 09 and then went on to say how great the night was.

Back to Manchester...can anyone remember how long after the gigs the bootlegs go on sale? I assume there will be bootlegs, and it won't be the 07 Euro tour all over again?

Both nights were the same for me. Everytime I looked around me there were smiling faces in the standing area with arms waving and people dancing and then everyone in the seats seemed to be standing too.

It was a really harsh comment.

Maybe Eddie was just more relaxed and more into it as it was the second night? I mean Manc 1 was the first gig they'd played in 7 months!

This was only my second show. And I was surprised to hear Pilate again! I ended up loving the deeper cuts more than the hits; Immortality, 1/2 Full, Insignificance, Release, Come Back. Anything with Porch, Black and Jeremy in the same show is always a great thing. Can't wait for the bootleg!

Ed always disses the previous night or the next town/city. It's just to make you feel good.

Manchester 1 was fantastic and if the crowd aren't "all fucking killing one another" as Pete Townshend infamously said then that's fine by me.

The crowd was going mental at the back, top tier where we were.

    A week has gone by....

I was stood with my mrs about 20 yards in front of the mixing desk, Mike side and from what i saw people around us were having a great time, singing and rocking along.... Not as manic a crowd as Manch 09 though! ;)

We thought the PJ set was good with only very minor band errors which were to be expected as it has been a while since they have played live together. Thought ED was on fine form on the night and nothing wrong with the setlist and the finale made it for me RITFW! Never thought i would see it live and with the lights up too! :D

    Just an observation...

What i don't get is people who come on here and dis the band post gig. If you want to do that then why bother getting tickets in the first place? Let those who don't have them get them instead and maybe there won't be so much negativity!

    All about opinions i suppose!

Enjoy the rest of the tour you who have yet to see them!

I have said this as well.

He has done it loads of times down the years and I believe it is meant to be a boost to the crowd he is saying it to.

It's let a less cliche 'This is the best crowd ever!' kind of shiz.

This was my 3rd show, and the first since Cardiff 2000. I loved it, loved the set, loved the energy from the crowd.

Release was a wonderful start, and I didn't stop singing or rocking out until the very end of RITFW.

Can't wait to see them again!

I agree that the Ed comment about accountants is just a cheap pop to get the crowd shouting. If not, I'm happy to rock out with accountants every night! :D
