Peanut butter is healthy? Think again - Jif Peanut Butter: MADE FROM ROASTED PEANUTS AND SUGAR, CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF: MOLASSES, FULLY HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OILS (RAPESEED AND SOYBEAN), MONO AND DIGLYCERIDES, SALT.

Most of these ingredients are GMO as well. Peanut butter should be made from peanuts, period. Everything else goes in to keep the oils from separating and as preservatives. These are unnecessary ingredients IMO.
    Et tu, Jif?

I may have to go back to Laura Scudder.

If you eat peanut butter that isn't simply peanuts and sea salt you are doing yourself a disservice.

I think it might be part of the reason peanut allergies are on the rise.

There has to be something with that processed junk that causes it.

a theory out there is that it is gmo soy is related to the rise in peanut allergies ... there are a bunch of articles on it ...

i would honestly recommend everyone do this for all the foods they love to eat ... i make my own pasta, bacon, gravlox, ice cream, grind my own meats ... my friends make their own yogurt, breads ... it's fun and liberating ... and it's generally good for your health and wallet!

Dirty, dirty, girl, but I'll keep that in mind. :D

Funny thing is I do some stuff from scratch, but for some reason (oh look it's on the shelf) I never thought of peanut butter.

And you Polaris, how in the world do you do bacon? Another weakness of mine.

bacon is easy ... get a slab of pork belly and apply either a cure or wet brine to it ... then smoke it at a low temperature ... granted you need a smoker or know how to mcgyver one ...

lots of instructions on-line ... you definitely do not need all the nitrates and shit they put in store bought bacon ...

and don't forget to save your bacon fat so you can use on other things! ... :P

Opposition To Soda Ban Sad Proof That Americans Still Fight For What They Believe In

NEW YORK—The mounting opposition to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proposal to prohibit the sale of large-size soft drinks served as sad and sobering proof that Americans are still willing to fight for the causes they believe in, sources confirmed Wednesday. “While many argue that people in this country lack the passion and general informedness to meaningfully participate in matters of public policy, the fierce outcry against the soda ban provides depressing evidence that this is not entirely true,” said New York University sociologist Dr. Marvin Schafer, pointing to the recent flux of pathetic petitions, public demonstrations, and fervent calls to the mayor’s office, all of which have been aimed at maintaining unimpeded access to soda and other sweetened beverages larger than 16 ounces. “This embarrassingly powerful demonstration of democracy shows that, when their backs are against the wall, Americans are unfortunately still very willing to band together and stand up for what they believe in most. Specifically, soda.” At press time, an online petition demanding the White House make clear its position on the use of combat drone strikes against American citizens had garnered 14 signatures.

Oh, onion. I'm typically a fan of their work (aside from their calling that little girl who was nominated for an Oscar the C word)...but to me - and I don't even drink soda - this isn't so much about the beverage itself but about someone else (or many someone elses) dictating what's best for me.

Not a suggestion, but an imposition.

Baby steps can go either way - toward positive change, or toward slowly, little by little, turning over to others the control and choices we should be able to make for ourselves.

    It sets a scary precedent.
