DiRtyFrank38, you say when guys get together, they talk about women like that? Obviously you and your friends do. But I've never been friends with guys who talk about women like that, and I got plenty of male friends, dude. We certainly talk about women, but not like that. You think the guys and Pearl Jam really talk like that? I highly fucking doubt that. I have a much higher opinion of them than that, although my opinion of them has been lowered greatly by them doing this festival.
ok, do i think the guys in pj said things like "damn nigga check out the ass on that bitch i'd love to fuck her brains out"? absolutely not. but when the guys in pj were young, in their own lingo, if you don't think there were times they'd be like "damn man, she's really fucking hot. the things i would do" just joking around with each other not being disrespectful, then you're crazy. and if guys say that around you since you are a female they are just disrespectful, so no wonder you never heard that. jay-z grew up in a world you could never even imagine. more rugged lifestyle, street lingo, and no holds barred. that's just what he is. some of the music he made and the way he turned his life around is incredible. period.

well shit. i was wishing this thread would go away, but since you revived it, it looks like I need to clear a few things up, and so i hope this does it...
first, i am male... i thought my name made that obvious, but whatever... second, i didn't meant that i haven't talked with friends (male and female) about how hot women are or what i might want to do with them... or that the guys in the band havent talked like that... what i was talking about was... okay, go back to page 1... look at the lyrics that my2hands posted... those lyrics are all about treating women like hoes, big pimpin and shit... okay so he's turned his life around... well his life still doesn't impress me.
i look at Jay Z as pop music. its too synthetic for me. if i go to a festival, i want to hear real bands play... and play challenging music. if every musician is black, i'm totally cool with that. doesnt all have to be rock music either.
these U.S. festival line-ups are weak in my opinion. the European ones are a bit better, however, i checked out Biffy Clyro because some people on here were raving about them, and they're playing right before Pearl Jam at the Isle of the Wight... and i find them extremely weak too. really boring, soulless, bland. but i'm done complaining about all the lame acts that Pearl Jam is playing with this year.... it was just amazing how many there are. i don't expect every act a festival to be good, but i expect better than this. oh well. i really fucking don't care anymore.
i just trying trying to agree with my2hands about the decision making that would lead them to playing a festival like this, but he probably wishes i hadnt gone ballistic in his thread. i dont know if i should take back anything i said, because i dont feel like re-reading it, but i do like Backspacer... i just prefer the edgier music they used to make.
i am extremely happy to see you post in this thread brother... its good to see there are still some of us around that arent afraid to speak up once in a while and dont accept garbage like degrading women and materialism as great art
it has become so common place in todays popular music that i think people really have to fight to avoid it and its influences... there is a great chris rock skit from a few years ago about todays music... essentially the skit goes like this... he goes to the club and see's a bunch of girls dancing to a song with lyrics like "slap em with a dick, slap the bitch with a dick, slap the slut with a dick"... not only is the skit funny, but it is absolutely accurate and a great statement about what people will accept as normal or as acceptable in todays music scene
Here's the thing........the band that we all love, admire, hold in high regards, ect have agreed to play this festival. I cannot imagine Kelly Curtis or anyone saying, "Look guys, you have to do this" They are certainly at a point where they are making decisions for themselves. And I'd have to think that this was a, "either we're all in or we're all out" type of decision. They agreed to do it and obviously, being asked to headline, probably felt that it was an honor.
Obviously, there is huge respect between both PJ and Jay Z. You guys may hate him, think he degrades woman, blah, blah, blah. But, our guys seem to at least respect him and hold hm in pretty high regards, or high enough that they've agreed to play his festival.
I'm not going to this festival. I drove to Philly from Maine for the shows in 2010, and had no issue doing it, but I really don't care to see any of these other acts. But I'm not about to rip on PJ for doing this, and certainly won't call them out for people that they associate with. And I'm fairly certain that the guys could give two shits that we think poorly of them for associating with Jay Z.
