Saw many many great shows this year, I feel slightly gluttonous

But the standout for me has been Chris Cornell's Hurricane Sandy benefit show at the Bowery Ballroom in New York with special guests Matt, Kim and Ben :mrgreen: I know this is going to end up being one of the best shows I will ever see in my life.

I saw Glen Hansard twice this year (Beacon and Philly), other than that everything thus far has been classical -- too many to list here (as in, somewhere well north of thirty), and besides, I know y'all don't care. ;)

We did see the New York Philharmonic play Dvorak's Ninth Symphony the other night ("From the New World"), and since Dvorak is my favorite composer that was a pretty special event for me. :)

I also saw an "up and coming" violinist, Augustin Hadelich, playing Sibelius's Violin Concerto. Hadelich is an extraordinarily gifted performer. He seems to have a very busy touring schedule. If you have any interest at all in classical music and this young man comes to your area, by all means spend the time and money to go see him play. He is amazing.

I'm thinking about warping my kid's mind by taking him to see George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic. ;)

For me, it was The Tea Party. It was a really energetic concert and everyone was up off their chairs. Music was amazing and everyone had waited so many years to see them again, awesome! ;)
They did a free show at a Toronto Exhibition (with the price of admission there, of course), this summer. Sadly I missed out on it and am kicking myself. They were spectacular when I caught them last year.
They really are great aren't they? Jeff was joking around about their reputation for being involved in the occult and what went on behind the stage after. Very funny. They just seemed to be having a great time, rather than some bands that seem like they really can't be arsed. Hope they come back again soon. ;)

Mark Lanegan - metting him and having him sign my Blues Funeral vinyl was a moment I'll never forget. A true legend and man I would not want to piss off. :nono:

  • The best concert for me at the time was actually Watch The Throne: Jay-Z & Kanye at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris, France on June 1. It all changed on December 7: I saw Dave Matthews Band with Jimmy Cliff at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. My dad & I actually bought great seats on Wednesday morning on Ticketmaster. DMB really know how to put on a show. They played for just over three hours and also had a great light and visual show. I wasn't expecting them to use lasers at all.

    In order:

    1. Roger Waters
    2. The Who
    3. Iron Maiden/Alice Cooper
    4. Van Halen
    5. ZZ Top

By no means does this mean that ZZ Top sucked. They were all good but they are in order of 'goodness'.

just caught AWOLNATION at Ram's Head Live in B'more and they brought it with the fury for 90 mins or so...if they only played a bit longer or had more material I think they'd be pretty fucking epic.
