So I end up at Kildare's on 2nd just off of South Street last night. The DJ cues up Black and some guys- "kids" to me, start talking about PJ and how they got "all these tickets today". I mention that I got a bunch of tickets too. I inquire as to which shows they got tickets for. They give me an incredulous look like I'm the ignoranamous and say, "Camden of course, 7 Lawn tickets, you?" I rattle off my schedule of 8 shows in multiple cities hours away and their jaws literally drop. I make comment scoffing at the Lawn seats and say I'd rather sit home on my grass with a case of my fav adult beverage with a CD player and some PJ boots. One guy asks how I afford it. I say I save a year or two ahead of time, split gas/lodging and/or stay with friends, and tickets are $50 per at most anyway. They ask more questions and are amazed by my answers of personal experiences since '96 hearing certain songs, etc. It was at this moment I realized two things:
1. I am, in fact a bit of a PJ snob. I already kind of knew this tho.
Confirmation helped.
2. While I never saw any early shows like 90, 91, 92, etc., there are
kids/people that are amazed by what I consider my limted PJ experience
that wish they had seen/heard what I have in the same way I wish I was
a fan back from the start. I rediscover my fortunes and perspective in
that context and appreciate what I have been able to experience thus
far as well as what I will.
So, in the end I got their info because they want to hang out for the tailgate. Good stuff. More fans the merrier.

And you call yourself a PJ snob. You should know that no "lawnies" are invited to the tailgate.

And I see I missed a ton of nothing this weekend... during my excursion to DC since I had no toliet or sink or tub for that matter due to the bathroom remodel. But I did have a wonderful weekend seeing kites and cherry blossoms which weren't in bloom yet.. wtf and just relaxin very nicely with my tailgating and concert +1

I've never had a Smithwicks....gonna have to give that stuff a try!
As far as meeting people who like Pearl Jam, other than this board the reaction I get when I tell people who Im going to see or who I listen to is "Oh, they're still around??"
Yeah same here.. don't really get into too many PJ discussions with people but usually same reaction. My friends even bust my balls sometimes but then I ask how long most of their favorite bands have been around

I've never had a Smithwicks....gonna have to give that stuff a try!
Deep Thoughts at 9:30 AM on Monday Morning:
Smithwicks is good, but it tastes like a weak version of Guinness to me. It makes me want a Guinness when I drink it. I'm used to drinking the dark beers so I probably wouldn't buy it again. I'd just go with Guinness.
I went out to dinner with my wife on Saturday night. It was our first dinner date alone as a couple since October 2000. That is so horrible. I feel terrible about it. We do everything with our kids. When we go out without them it is with other couples. We never get any alone time. That has to change because dinner was really nice ans she deserves better.
Well I had some wine at dinner and after we got home and put the kids to bed she feel asleep. I stayed up and watched taped episodes of MNI Ed and the Office and drank a fair share of Molsons. Anyway, instead of going to sleep I jumped onto the board and posted away. Some of my comments were pretty rude and I feel bad about it now. That doesn't mean that I'm on the wagon...I didn't drink that much. I was just in the wrong frame of mind and then drank beer. If that is what strong Canadian Beer does to me I'd better stick with the user friendly Guinness. It's stange but different beers have different effects on me. My usual beers like Sam Adams or Guinness just loosen me up and I'm the happy drunk...same with any kind of booze or shots, which I rarely drink. If I drink too many of a new strange brew, all bets are off. Go with what you know...words to live by.

Being a fan of many different types of beers, I welcome the differences between Smithwick's and Guiness, esp since they aren't the same type. I can say I like Guiness better, but Smith's is still a good time. This especially holds true b/c I couldn't drink another Yuengling if you paid me. I think 8 yrs of that was enough.
As for certain beers having different effects on you than others- I have to stay away from Victory's Golden Monkey. I dunno what's in it besides the usual beer ingredients, but it's good and it get's me in trouble of some sort every time. Guaranteed.
