As unpopular as this may be around here, and as much as I love and respect Jeff's bass playing... I'm sorry, I'm firmly in the Flea corner.

  • I want no part of this. Too much for a Friday night. I have to go Jeff. Hands down. With no Jeff, no Pearl Jam. And if no pearl jam, I'm mad!  :D

Plus Jeff's a sk8r. Always gotta go with my thrashers. 8-)

It's apples to oranges on style. I love the bass playing of both. Love the different elements they bring to both of the bands.

Probably not the best way to answer this thread, it's just honestly how I feel. 8-)

I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!

who's better... Tom Brady or tony Romo? It's that big a gap. Jeff isn't in the class of a flea, claypool, geddy lee, etc... Not in this respect anyway. He will tell you this if you ask him I guarantee it. :between:

matt freeman and fat mike are better too.

I will say Jeff, the way he plays is more the way I play. Lots of slides, the occasional fill.

There's more to being a good bassist than being good at slap and pop or playing incredibly fast. Different styles.

Not necessarily. Flea's songwriting sucks and Primus sounds like shit on albums. IMO

Although Flea is probably more "Skilled" he bass sound can become VERY boring after 3 or 4 Chili Pepper's songs. It's just the same funk thing over and over. Jeff has more styles. Plus he can write some really fantastic tunes!
