I presume not many. Maybe they should all buy motorcycles? Maybe you should too?
Many of the people you saw driving probably don't have multiple vehicles for multiple chores. With that in mind, maybe they like to have the flexibility to accomplish all their shit in one vehicle?

The vast majority of people do not need anything bigger than a sedan (and assuming that is so and they are smart, they'll save money and buy a hybrid). Your truck may hold 500 gallons of water but your argument does not. As for people's "shit", well-shoot- just ask George Carlin about that!

There's a great segment in the movie "The Parking Lot Movie" (which, by the way, if you haven't seen yet I highly recommend it- one of the coolest documentaries I've seen in a long time!) in which one of the parking attendants describe the growth in size of the American vehicle- and you often see single people driving these things around unloaded by themselves. The attendants often turn these people away, refusing to let them park in the lot because they're too damn big. Great movie- anyone else see it?
Yeah, someone recommended it in the Documentaries thread on AET. It's a cool movie.
Back to the original topic of this thread... President Obama, Oil Companies (gasoline prices) and the November Election...
Does anyone really believe that the President has any control over the Oil Compaines? Don't the Oil Companies OWN all of the politicians? Not just in the U.S., but everywhere.
...
What about drilling in the U.S.'s Strategic Oil Reserves? Do people know what it is there for? Here is a little quiz:
The United States' Strategic Oil Reserves are for:
A. Strategic use in case of war with a large country with a large armed for that possesses global capabilities. These countries include Russia, China, Israel (yes, Israel), Europe (yes, Europe) because you never know who your future enemy will be (see Iran circa 1962).
The Middle Eastern Oil Fields will be up for grabs and trying to sustain a global war on a far away continent is difficult, if you do not possess the fuel to get your hardware there and back. War Machines do not run on patriotism... they need fossil fuels.
OR...
B. So, you can have cheap gas to idle your HummVee in a McDonalds Drive Thru.
...
If you picked B., Please explain... Why would the Oil Companies and their multi millionaire executives sell you gasoline, cheap... when they can sell it to countries overseas for a shitload of cash? Note: If you use 'benevolence', please, provide examples of past Oil Company benevolence.

the president shouldn't tap into the SOR...what he should do is not worry about gas prices. Worry about diplomacy with Iran and the rest of the middle east...turmoil there raises prices for everyone.
He should also worry about stopping spring and summer from coming...you know...the travel seasons where gas prices go up annually...
we are spiking right now...get used to it. it will continue until after labor day...
the only thing the president can do is try to improve relations in the middle east. He doesn't run the oil companies, and he doesn't set the price of gasoline.
as for examples of benevolence...BP cares so much for the gulf region...their commercials told me.

the oil companies run the gov't ... that is why the US helped a coup in Iran way back when ... it's absurd to think the president or gov't can control gas prices ... it's the other way around ...

Exactly.
If the oil companies are allowed to tap into the Strategic Oil Reserves, shouldn't they be able to sell the oil at the going market rates? After all, it is capitalism, right? Market rules apply, right?
If not... meaning they would HAVE to sell the oil to Americans as a cut rate instead of making a hefty profit from the Chinese... isn't that basically 'Nationalizing' the Oil Reserves? Isn't that what SOCALISTS and Oil Monarchys do?
Oil Companies are in the business of making money for Oil Executives. If any believes they are in the business to keep us happy... well, I think it's time they finally pull their heads out of their asses because they ain't gonna find the Oil Companies Mission Statement of benevolence towards us up there.

Hillary Clinton convinced the Western allies that the sanctions against Iran would work and Iran would falter fast. It’s not happening! Even the Saudis hadn’t counted on Iran holding out this long and now they’re flip-flopping on continuing to increase their output.
You think PM Cameron came over to watch March Madness, no! He came to tell Obama and Congress that it is WINTER in the UK, with snow on the ground and freezing cold on the way -- and the UK is facing oil and gas shortages, and a financial recession if they don’t get some help.
The prices of gas will stabilize, Obama will pull gas from the reserves, not for us, but for Europe, and MORE IMPORTANTLY – big oil will keep its mouth shut because any public announcement that the UK is in financial trouble would damn near throw Wall Street into a cascading free fall, especially since Japan is in no position to stabilize any such down swing. With SWIFT joining in on the monopoly game, if Germany intervened and failed to slow another recession, it would be a total collapse, and who wins, Brazil.
Obama will win on the gas prices, which by the oil companies and Wall Street speculation should have been $5.50 ($6.03) per – right now – on the East Coast.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.
