I'm quite sure that there are anchors that read a written script from someone else. I know exactly 0 news anchors, but my guess is the majority of what is read is written by the anchor. They probably hand the script that they write and give it to whoever types it in the teleprompter. Sports center anchors do write their own scripts for their shows. If you want to call them a news source.
I shared this in the AET thread, more people NEED to understand how the media works.
If you really want to read up (and I suggest everyone do this), here's some good links about our mainstream media. All of the media in the U.S. is owned by 6 corporations. They dictate what we hear. Finding reliable info defacing mainstream media is difficult because the media wants to keep the truth away from the public. But it is out there. http://www.globalissues.org/article/532/media-manipulation#BenefitsforBroadcaster

This is a short from the documentary "The Corporation", a film everyone should see which examines modern-day corporations, featuring interviews with corporate critics such as Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein and Howard Zinn. This shows 2 journalists fired from Fox News years ago for not agreeing to censor their report to comply with Monsanto's lawyers.
State Propaganda: How Government Agencies Produce Hundreds of Pre-Packaged TV Segments the Media Runs as News http://www.democracynow.org/2005/3/14/state_propaganda_how_government_agencies_produce
According to a major expose in The New York Times, federal agencies under the Bush administration–from the State Department to Agriculture to the Transportation Security Administration–have been producing hundreds of pre-packaged TV segments that have been broadcast on local stations as real news. (Yes, it's OLD news, it's been going on for years)
The article reports that at least 20 federal agencies–including the Defense Department and the Census Bureau–have distributed hundreds of television news segments in the past four years. Many were then broadcast on local stations without crediting the government as the source of the information.
The article goes on to state that "the administration’s efforts to generate positive news coverage have been considerably more pervasive than previously known. At the same time, records and interviews suggest widespread complicity or negligence by television stations." Later the article says that "some reports were produced to support the administration’s most cherished policy objectives like regime change in Iraq and Medicare reform...They often feature quote, unquote "interviews" with senior administration officials in which questions are scripted and answers rehearsed. Critics are excluded as are any hints of controversy, waste or mismanagement."
Amy Goodman's video is worth watching on this link. Is better than the text.
In some professions you get your ass locked up for telling a little," I am a tough guy" white lie like that...He will be forgiven and given a award for comeback journalist of the year....
More importantly, just checked my email and learned that AC/Dc just confirmed For sept 15 at Wrigley with ANOTHER band to play the next night. There were 3 bands listed in my work request as possibles...hopefully Theo gets his way and the boys are willing and Free.

In other professions, lies will help you sell enough books to have an Oscar-nominated movie made about you, which will elevate you to national hero.
Journalistic integrity is probably the entire key to democracy in modern society....so seeing so many people giving the guy a pass based on the fact that our TV news is bullshit anyway doesn't sit well with me. This should be the start of a push for integrity and accountability, not accepting defeat en masse.

Now that the bar has been set, me thinks there will be a shortage of broadcasters in a few weeks! Both CNN and Fox will have to hire hobos off the street to replace the ranks.

Agreed. Like Jon Stewart said, "Finally, someone is being held to account for misleading America about the Iraq War!" I give him a pass though, for the sake that he is a lone scapegoat here. You don't see NBC taking a fall, and you certainly won't see FoxNews taking a fall. They're all guilty.

clap clap clap!
that said, Lara Logan is someone who should never work in news again. nor should anyone who ginned up the threat that iraq posed. you knowingly lie in a news report and people die, you never report news again. that is how i see it anyway.

His career as a news anchor is over, anyway. But never underestimate the ability of the fallen to come back in the entertainment business (yes, I am including news media in that business, which is depressing).

If he was an actual reporter or journalist I would agree. But Brian Williams is (was) just a news anchor, no? He just reads the news from a teleprompter.

He is also something like the lead editor for the networks news division. I think that's a big deal

Yes you are right. I should've amplified my statement by saying that his "on air" career is over. He will never have facetime with the public again. He will get work behind the scenes of newscasts just never involved with a camera.

Lol. I was more thinking that he'd get his own show! That's how cynical I am!

To the point, direct, honest and no room for debate.
