I think we need a whole other thread to answer this one.
Anyone care to sum it up somehow?
Way too hard to sum up, but the short answer is that Roger Waters has some serious personality issues. Best that he left or there might have been violence. They've never been quite the same without him and he's not quite as good alone, but they're all still about the best you'll ever see, IMHO.
HA! Nooo silly, she's not. Sorry for the confusion. I'm should have specified that I'm "virtually" preparing to catch her.
Ahh ok. I was gonna say. I wish I could afford to do that many flights. Hell I'd be there tonight if I could have afforded it without going into steep CC debt.

o dude there was violence. that is what led to roger hitting the road when the final cut was finished up in 83. in the studio one day dave tossed one of his strats in rogers general direction lol. man i swear... i am only 24 years old and until pearl jam came out pink floyd was my obsession as a kid. i know way to much useless information on both bands lol.
i think time and age just caught up to them. roger left the band after the final cut album in 1983. dave and nick got richard back in the band and they kept on trucking. they never announced an official split by any means. i really believe that they will do one more full out reunion tour with roger before it's over with. they seemed in good spirits at live 8 and seemed to actually get along. if you liked division bell definately check out momentary lapse of reason. both albums were dave's babies pretty much. and as for the roger waters era, check out meddle and animals.
i'll concur with this. i think meddle, dark side, wish you were here and animals was when the band really meshed. the wall started to sound like Roger Waters solo project, and dave started doing his solo work, and then when Roger Waters left, Pink Floyd basically became the Dave Gilmour band. i still love Gilmour and Waters solo, but the mid 70s were the genius days.
if you love Division Bell, definately get Momentary Lapse of Reason, its just as good and I think Wish You Were Here should be next.

This is so fascinating, i never knew any of this!
Do fans generally prefer a certain era of the band? I'm gonna have to check some albums out.

Amused to Death is a great great record. the others, not so good. Radio KAOS even sounds a bit assinine these days. haha.
anyway... probably should get back to talking about Pearl Jam...

its kinda split 3 ways. you got your stoner kids who worship syd barret era pink floyd. i wouldn't reccomend some of his stuff to a pink floyd beginning listener. get into the 71-79 era of pink floyd 1st with meddle, dark side, wish you were here, animals, and the wall. i love the 67-70 era of piper at the gates of dawn and saucerful of secrets but it takes a ton of listens to really get it lol.
but a lot of syd's solo stuff like octopussy and madcap laughs is relaly awesome. it's kind of like stoner bob dylan singer song writer. most fans prefer the 71-79 era but there is definately that segment of fans who really are more into the syd barret stuff. and in all honesty if it wasn't for syd we wouldn't have had floy to begin with. roger even mentioned him before wish you were here at live 8 which ws way cool.

But one comment - Amused to Death should be re-released. Never has there been an album that was a better comment on the business of modern warfare.
