Absolutely should have been a personal foul. Refs really lost control of the game right there...that was a mess at the end of the 1st half.

Did they at least call the offside penalty? I can't stand blabbermouth Sherman.

yes but they didn't reset the play clock. So they got called for delay of game

they called an offsides penalty. Nothing for diving at the kicker's legs. Mind you, the play was whistled dead almost immediately when he crossed the line

    Lots of yelling and arguing

Then... the refs decided that because trainers came out, it was a 4th Buffalo timeout and their Kicker had to sit.

    Lots of yelling and arguing

So the players all started to run for the locker room while the refs yelled on the mic "the half is not over yet".

So eventually, they restored "order" and the Bills sent the offense out to spike the ball with 3 seconds remaining which they successfully did.

The refs fucked up the play clock, and stood over the ball as the players were lined up for the FG and the ref stood there with 3 seconds remaining on the play clock. The Bills snapped the ball and Carpenter hit the field goal. The Bills got the play off late because (the ref placed the ball late and stood over it until there were 3 seconds remaining on the play clock)... so the Bills were penalized for delay of game.

    Carpenter missed the longer kick.

It was probably the most bizarre sequence I have ever seen in officiating

If they blew the whistle when he crossed the line, then the hit on the kicker should be a dead ball personal foul, unsportsmanlike conduct. Fuckin Seattle gets away with everything!

and Sherman tries to say he went for the ball but sure as heck looks like he went right for the knees

That was ridiculous. Can't believe the ref had to tell the players not to leave the field. Walt Anderson is a veteran ref that is usually pretty good, but that was terrible. That whole crew better be fined and/or suspended....NFL holds the players to high standards and players get suspended and/or fined for personal fouls, should be the same for the refs.

I've always wondered why officials (in any sport) seem to never be held accountable for anything. They're practically untouchable. And the players and coaches get fined when they make remarks about bad officiating. It's like dark territory to the major sports leagues. It's sports sin #1.
Whenever I think of poor officiating, my immediate thought goes to Armando Galarraga who got screwed out of a perfect game on the final out. Jim Joyce (first base umpire who made the call) even publicly admitted his wrongdoing and was clearly remorseful. Galarraga and Joyce released a book about the game a year later. Extreme class exhibited by both men the way they handled the situation, and even more for Joyce for holding himself accountable.

At least officials don't have to face the scrutiny of European soccer leagues. Greece had to suspend all play because people tried to burn the head of officiating's house down!
