If you like a red zone warning on the ticker to see who's about to score...

This shit is getting out of hand. I get the head shots thing, but now they're questioning tackling a guy low when he has the fucking ball?!?? Like Clark said in that article, you can't go and change a rule every time someone gets hurt. It's a violent game....people are going to get hurt.

I get the lawyer/lawsuit aspect as far as concussions/head injuries go. But knee injuries??? Complete nonsense.

Yeah. I can also understand if they want to eliminate cut blocks like the one that just ended will smith's season. But like you said, a penalty for making a low tackle is absurd...

goodell is hellbent on continuing to ruin this league

    Yes.
He does color commentary now for the Bills on the radio.
In his playing days we would call him The Great Kazoo
He swears that helmet saved his ass though
The guy would play safety so far back you would swear he was returning punts

Doesn't sound like may starters are playing for any team. If anything, they'd probably play 1 series. Bears are holding out Cutler and the backup QB. What a joke these 4th preseason games are.

At least the NFL doesn't charge you the same as a regular season game ... Oh yeah ... :fp: :fp: :fp:

Yeah they are a bit of a joke. Not sure what they accomplish.

I would never pay to go to a preseason game, especially not 4th week. We sure paid a lot for our tickets to the Giants/Broncos, and we're nowhere near even the good seats, let alone the best seats. Crazy prices.

  • Go Tebow! 2 TD passes in 28-20 win over the Giants. Threw for 91 yards. Rushed for another 30. 1 pick. Good show.

Seriously I don't get it. The guy was the biggest name in football less than 2 years ago and people treat him like a joke. He helped his team win their division and took them to the playoffs, beating the Steelers in OT on his passing play. Someone needs to do something with him and give him a chance. He deserves an opportunity at least.

What the jets did with him last year was despicable. I used to joke about him and make fun of his Jesus obsession, but he can play and I think someone should take a chance on him, like Buffalo. Or send him back to the Jets and trade Dirty Sanchez.

The fact he had the number 1 selling jersey at one time tells you everything you need to know... Lot of idiots out there

I'm sure the guy is nice and genuine but we are talking about football skills people.. Religion is scary :o

You have to admit though, that was pretty special what he and his team did to go on that win streak and win the division and win a playoff game.

I do think he deserves a chance to prove he wasn't a fluke. I'm surprised no one wants him to be honest. Yet Mark Sanchez is a starting QB still.

I do agree with the religion part though, wholeheartedly.

they won those game with great defense and running game, in spite of Tebow's terrible QB play. They couldnt wait to get rid of him.

He just doesnt have the skills to be an NFL QB. He wont even be able to play in the CFL.

I'm not a big Tebow fan or anything and I enjoy making fun of him as much as the next guy, but I think he's been treated unfairly.

He helped win those games. I seem to remember them getting hot as soon as he took over the QB position. He helped the running game as well. It was definitely a team effort, but he was part of it.

And that wasn't a bad pass he threw on the opening play of OT against the Steelers to win the wild card game.

Just sayin' he helped the Broncos win their division and their first playoff game. He's not a total waste of flesh like some people would have you believe and I think he deserves a chance.

He deserved a chance but he blew it. Tebow's a victim of two things: circumstance and his own stupidity. Circumstance because Peyton Manning became a free agent and chose the Broncos. His own stupidity because he chose the Jets over the Jaguars. Sure the Jaguars suck, but at least there he'd be able possibly grow as a player. But he chose the Jets and let Rex Ryan ruin his career. Just like he ruined Sanchez's career. And how he'll ruin Geno Smith's.

Side rant on Rex: he might be the worst head coach in NFL history. He's a good Xs and Os guy and was great as the Ravens' defensive coordinator. But then why did the Ravens NOT make him their head coach in 2008? He had success with them, the players loved him, but they went with Harbaugh. Because they KNEW REX. He's an attention whore that's incapable of being a leader of men. It was "Super Bowl or bust" and "I guarantee a championship" after Rex's first year with the Jets. Why? Because they made it to the conference title game with a rookie QB. Just like the 2004 Steelers did and just like the 2008 Ravens did. But did you ever hear Bill Cowher or John Harbaugh putting bulls-eyes on Roethlisberger's or Flacco's backs with a bunch of self-hype and bravado? No of course not. Would 2005 Cowher ever say "I'll take Ben over any QB in this league." No. Even if he thought it, only a moron would say it. Did 2009 Harbaugh make his wife get a Flacco tattoo? I'm guessing he didn't. So yeah Rex made the playoffs twice and there's coaches out there with worse win/loss records. But that's it. He's done after this year (probably before it's over) and only a shitty team like the Browns will give him a head coaching job in the future. Rex said at the beginning of his tenure that he "wasn't here to kiss Belichick's rings." Maybe not, but if Rex is lucky, he'll be Belichick's defensive coordinator next year. If he's lucky.....

Tebow has had plenty of chances. That Broncos season was a big audition and he for the most part failed in a lot of people's eyes (the ones who choose quarterbacks).
If you only look at the team's (as a whole) record and one pass (that had about 60 yards after the catch), you are purposely shielding yourself from data. The guy was below 50% completion percentage. Fox did everything possible to shield Tebow from getting exposed and that included a game where he threw only 8 passes (completed 2). He only had 2 games that he completed over 50% of his passes (and one of those games only had 15 attempts). His QB rating for the season was just above 70. He averaged 124 yards passing per game. He was also sacked as much as other quarterbacks who dropped back almost 3x as much over the season. He turned the ball over 19 times.
    That is a train wreck.
And he was getting worse as the season rolled on, fumbling in the last 5 or 6 games, some of them multiple times. Defensive coordinators figured out that Tebow was pretty much hopeless against a simple zone defense. The last few games of the regular season he was getting absolutely lit up. For the playoff game, the Steelers' coaches were too pig headed to go with zone and figured they would easily win with man defense and got stung.

The method of winning was not sustainable. John Fox knew it and John Elway knew it.

He should have gone to the Jaguars. He would have had a better shot there, a small market with little media pressure and a community that unanimously worships him.

So he went to the Jets to a volatile situation in a media capital... I believe somewhere at camp, they figured out the man's glaring weaknesses were not fixable. He holds the ball too long, his arm is inadequate, and he has trouble reading NFL defenses on the fly. Then there also was the Sanchez-Ryan drama.

So the Pats picked him up they probably figured why not? If someone can find use of him it would be Bill Belichick. He had plenty of OTAs, camp, and preseason games, and just did not show much, even against 3rd stringers and practice squad players.

If Tebow really had the goods, someone would have him in place as their quarterback. People want to win. These days, its an era of explosive quarterbacks and 124 passing yards a game isnt good enough.

So now, I dont know. He may get a chance to be a clipboard holder somewhere... but his days of getting a 'serious' shot are over. His warts are too debilitating.

And I was serious that he cant play in the CFL either. I believe toronto or (expansion) Ottawa may give him a shot for the publicity. In the CFL the field is much wider, is 110 yards, and the end zones are deeper. There are also 3 downs. You have to be very accurate as an incomplete pass is nearly an automatic drive killer. QBs need arm plus accuracy. There isnt that much of a running game either and QBs are always depended upon to throw the ball 30-50 times.

So I am unable to just view the wins that season and shield everything else out to proclaim Tebow to be anything more than he is: One of the best college quarterbacks/players ever, but incompatible with the NFL game.
  • You guys make a lot of sense. The stats say it all. Good research and you both explained it very well, in detail. Thanks.
