Hopefully they'll at least release them quickly though and not years apart. We wouldnt want to keep BinauralJam waiting too long with his stogies and beer. 8-)

Well this was the same plan i had for the 6 Star Wars movies :( , this should turn out better than that did 8-) .

I have a feeling they will be every Christmas over 3 years

By then i'll quit drinking and smoking, watching them completely sober and thinking, these aren't as good as i remember.

Well at least he is going into some of the other history and stories. We'll see.

Interesting, but I wonder if all that extra stuff will be back stories? And might water down the main Hobbit story.

I doubt that The Simarillion or Children of Hurin would work as movies. Althought there are some interesting stories in them.....
I saw this quote....and instantly thought that bits of The Simarillion were apparently being worked into the script...that might work....unless they recap Gollum's tale again
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

tolkien's estate has said no to touching his other works. the only reason these movies got made is cause the rights were sold years ago, i think when tolkien was still alive. early on jackson did say something how he would have liked to include stuff from unfinished tales since it could bridge the two stories together but that he couldnt use any of that source material....

still irked this is a trilogy considering the friggin' book takes like a day to read while the other movies were also a trilogy but had 1,000 times the pages ...

Same here. I don't get why they're so concerned with getting everything in this time around when they left so much cool/important stuff out of the LotR trilogy and you know stuff is gonna be reworked and chopped to make The Hobbit more movie goer friendly. Still love the movies and have no doubt all three of these movies will also be badass but it's an obvious cash grab to make The Hobbit a trilogy.

I'm excited. Trying not to expect too much, but a trilogy would piss me off

  • i really hope its good, the hobbit was always my favorite middle-earth story. but it sure seems like a cash grab to make this a trilogy. the lord of the rings was 3 books, so 3 movies seemed fair, they edited and changed alot to make it fit, but it was still very good.

now they are gonna make 3 movies off 1 book?? the hobbit was in no way a bigger or denser book than any of the LOTR books. so if they would have taken to the same methods of transitioning between book and movie as last time they could have told the hobbit story in 1 movie and it would have still been on par with the LOTR trilogy.

when they first said it was 2 movies i thought they were just not gonna do as much to make the story fit in 1 movie like last time and try to use as much of the book with out changing stuff. 3 movies... i have a bad feeling it will be watered down and slow, with lots of stuff that never happened.

i just hope this prequel trilogy isnt as bad as the star wars one was

  • Bought my ticket last week, really stoked to see it. IGN's review kinda confirmed my fear, they mention that it drags in places and its like an hour into the movie before anything really happens.

i didnt have to take off, seasonal layoff. But when Dark Knight Rises came out, after the movie i went home packed my lunch and went right to work...
  • Fuck yeah! Seeing the shit out of this tonight!
  • I thought the movie was great, and im so glad that it didnt seem slow. i thought filling in some of the back story with other writings from Tolkien was great, worked out nice. I'm kinda meh on the white orc story angle but it doesnt take anything away. Also liked that they kept the movie more light-hearted and fun like the book was, compared to LOTR.

Seriously as soon as this is out of theaters they should release the next one, why wait a year to make that money??? and i really dont want to wait either.
  • Read a news story that like 10 animals died during filming.

I think that info came from disgruntled former employees. There were some complaints earlier on in the production, but those were amended and the group that gives approval for "no animals were harmed...." was on set and gave their approval.

i enjoyed it a lot as well. Not as much as LOTR but still pretty damn good, IMO. I don't understand why the movie was receiving mixed reviews though :?
