Samsung Galaxy Ace or iPhone 4 ?

I am looking to enter into a new plan this weekend and am tossing up between the Samsung Galaxy Ace or the iPhone 4.

These are the only two smartphones that I can afford as they are both under $30 per month on plans.

The guy I spoke to at the mobile store recommended the Galaxy Ace as it is new whereas the iPhone 4 is a few years old now.

What would you go for???

iPhone has bigger storage (8gb) compared to 2gb but the hardware is better on the Galaxy Ace.
Also as I am a PC and Gmail user Android works better apparently.

looks like the Samsung has an SD card that you can upgrade to 32 GB, SD cards can be found for pretty cheap

iphone doesn't use an SD card.

IPhone 4 is a few years old? It's release date was just under 18 months ago.

Whatever. It really doesn't matter which one you get because you're just going to be wishing you had gone with the other one at some point.

That being said, I have an iphone 4 and I'm generally really happy with it.
  • Hmmm.
Some people say iPhone 4 is way better, some say the same for the Galaxy Ace.
Hard to decide, going to get one or the other tonight.
    Thank you for your opinions.

    Galaxy Ace.
  • I got the Galaxy Ace.

    brother123, What is ICS?

I realised after I signed up on the contract there is no unlimited social networking.
I get 400mb of data per month, I wonder how long that will last :?

400 megs...yikes....gf uses close to 2 gig and i am typically around a gig per month...we have no home internet and don't use wifi connections

if you hop on wifi whenever possible, you should be ok....

or can you upgrade your data plan?

    I have wifi at home.
My sis has wifi, so when I am over there I can hop on.

I can upgrade to higher data plans.
    I don't think I'll need it, we'll see.

If there is no unlimited social networking I will be cursing, totally forgot to ask.
Another provider offers unlimited, however you only get 200mb.
I'd probably choose 400mb over unlimited FB, btw FB uses a lot of data!

Ice Cream Sandwich. Android 4.0 It looks really good.
  • How the hell do you log out of Gmail on Android?
I can log out of facebook but not Gmail.
I don't want it running and using data when I am away from my wifi.

I would imagine that if you don't have the email set to push or fetch there's really no need to log out.

    try menu>settings>accounts

turn off back ground data and auto sync

how much does extra data cost?

Thank you, done what you suggested :)
I turned off background data, when I do that it greys out the auto-sync option so you can't turn it on/off.
    What is auto-sync?

I was wandering why my battery is half empty, I had it on almost 24 hr charge when I took it out of the box.
I guess it's me playing around with it and the background data running, plus I had wifi on.

I am charged 10c per mb for extra data.

  • The Ace takes 2 hrs and a bit to fully charge after being completely flat.
    Hmmm.

My suggestion is fully run the battery out until the phone won't even power on and then leave it on a charge for about eight hours. You should see better battery performance. At least thats what I have experienced with my Blackberry and iPhone.

Yeah I kept playing with it until it died on me.
It's been on charge now for just under 3 hrs.
    Thanks.
