To whoever asked about where to start with the Whigs:

You picked a band that has a large(ish) cult following. Every Dulli fan will give you a different album to pick as to where to start. The music is pretty different on each release, so his fans all have different favourite albums. Most fans of all things Dulli think most everything he touches is gold, but the fans will all have different favourite albums, too.

Mine is the last Whigs record, '1965'. It was recorded in New Orleans, and it sounds like it. Dulli at his most sexy. The production is of the kitchen-sing variety: mental harmonies and over the top backing vocals, horns, strings-they just threw everything at that album. And it's amazing. Good luck with you Dulli explorations!

1965 is quite the party. It's what I listen to when I am getting ready to go out. Sexy indeed "66"....sigh.

lol @ "You picked a band that has a large(ish) cult following"....that's for sure...

And I thought that was just me  Didn't Dulli road test the songs by taking them to a strip club and they only went on the record if the strippers could dance to them? Sure I read that somewhere......

I got into this band during a huge period of change in my life. Dulli's music didn't really inspire happy moods, but it captured thoughts and emotion of the time quite accurately. I remember telling my fiance (just weeks before this news broke) that if I could see them live I'd die a happy man. I've seen the Twilight Singers, but I really wanted to see the Whigs. Nothing will stop me from going to Jeresy next September. Awesome news!

New Greg Dulli interview in Spin:
    http://www.spin.com/#articles/it-greg-dulli-talks-afghan-whigs-reunion

He mentions possible Sub Pop reissues and unreleased songs
We’ve been talking to Sub Pop about reissues, but still not sure what we could do there. I do know that John Curley has the Gentlemen demos, which I haven’t heard since we made that album. He’s the archivist of the team, he has everything we ever did. I don’t even know how much unreleased stuff there even is. There is a “Crime Scene Part Two” from the Black Love era that I remember being cool. That was a long time ago.
I would live to hear Crime Scene Part Two (and any other unreleased Black Love tracks), let's hope the reissues get the go ahead :D

Nice! I wasn't able to get to a computer early enough during the presale, so I had to settle with the weekend pass. But I'm not complaining. And I agree about the line-up - I think I'll definitely be getting my money's worth out of this.

I'm hoping these dudes decide to play a show in Cincinnati this year. I mean, it would make sense and all.

That would make sense because isn't that where they're from? Hometown shows are great.

Saw The Black Crowes in Atlanta about 5 years ago... simply awesome.

Dulli said they were going to schedule another 20 dates or so. Really hoping a bunch of those are here in the States.

I didn't want to post the whole thing in two threads, so I'll just link it.

i have tix for ATP. I didnt get one today. I can't really afford to fly cross country twice in less than a month. Hoping for a string of West Coast dates so I can hit several of those.

plus.... waiting for a New Orleans date....because that's the one I really want to see...

Just got tickets for the Sydney show in July! 19 or so years after I first heard them I finally get to see them live for the first time - this has definitely made my year.

Of all the bands that I have loved over the years The Afghan Whigs are the only ones I've never seen live. I've seen Greg with The Twilight Singers, The Gutter Twins and with Mark Lanegan but I never thought I'd get the chance to see the Whigs. It's the first time they've ever played in Australia and I can't f#cking wait!

    Your attention, please
    Now turn off the light
    Your infection, please
    I haven't got all night

    Understand, do you understand?

    From the AW website:
The Afghan Whigs Announce Location Of First Show In 13 Years

The Afghan Whigs will perform on May 23rd in New York City at Bowery Ballroom with special guest Joseph Arthur.

The fan pre-sale is SOLD OUT. A VERY limited number of tickets will be available on Friday at noon EST.

The band will also perform on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, May 22nd. This will be the band's first televised performance in over a decade.
First show in 13 years... and Joseph Arthur as support - sounds like a win-win situation to me! 8-)

Amazing setlist, Crime Scene Part One is my favourite Whigs song ever, I'd kill to see them play it live.
  • They played an unknown song after 'Milez...' that wasn't on the setlist, too!
