Sorry been drinking tonight and just need to post. Anyone else have any?

Missing your father's last hours on his death bed because of work. I live this regret every single fucking day of my life.

I regret not going to dinner with my parents on my dad's birthday last year. He told my mom he had a feeling it would be his last birthday, and sadly, it was.

Then go and read a book or something. Stop wasting your time here on a rock and roll band's forum...it will only eat your brain.

Not getting to my grandma's bedside even one hour earlier the day before she died to facilitate morphine orders that should have been place for at least a day or two prior to that :(

Not doing a better job of protecting my kids from a volatile situation at home.

Now I need a drink...I should have had the drink first, before posting :?

I used to have a few regrets, mainly centred on broken relationships, opportunities missed, people I'd lost etc, and at times they used to get the better of me. Then I accepted that everything happens for a reason and the events of my past (the good ones and the bad ones) shaped who I am today. Now I can say I have no regrets.

Whenever the topic of regrets comes up, two things immediately spring to mind. The first is a piece of advice I was given when I was travelling:
"It's better to be broke but have memories than it is to be rich with regrets"

The second is a Michael Stipe lyric fro 'Blue':
"This is my time and I am thrilled to be alive"
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
    (Tim Rogers)

Thanks, that is very sweet. Luckily, I had 5 months to spend with him from the time he entered home hospice care until he died on Sept. 9

Similarly, not spending more time with my grandfather after he had his stroke because I had to fly back up to Dallas for work. I should have told the job to F it....In many ways he was more of a father to me than my actual father. still think about this a lot

    Sure I got em.

Though I feel that if you didn't have regrets, you wouldn't recognize those precious moments that hold meaning. Appreciating those tender moments makes us human.
Life has no designated route, its up to us to find our way Thu life, and when we go the wrong way, get lost, regret can kill the spirit, so we remember the good times to get us thru the bad parts.

Ok I better stop, I've got delrious ramblings and its late...

Ok, well at least I look at life that way. Don't dwell on regret, appreciate you have them, and embrace the wonderful moments, no matter how small or simple they may seem.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

I regret staying too long at a mind numbing, soul sucking job.

There are other regrets, but that is probably at the top of the list right now.

I was a Sociology major focusing on criminal justice. Luckily I wised up and took some Comp Sci courses during my J/S years. Best thing I could have done: I now have my Masters in IT Management and work as a database developer/analyst on a data warehouse team. Go figure.

This. Sure everyone has regrets, but those decisions may have lead you to a place or moment that was wonderful.
And if I think about a regret too much...I just think of these words.

You can spend your time alone, re-digesting past regrets, oh
Or you can come to terms and realize
You're the only one who can't forgive yourself, oh
Makes much more sense, to live in the present tense

When it comes down to it, you can't change the past, but you can make the best of the present and the future.

    Ditto...and so many more
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow
