    What’s a Fanview?

A FanView is an exclusive Message Pit thread for fans that attend a concert and want to share their experience with fans that could not.

Does a FanView need to be certain length?

No, your FanView can be one word “AWESOME,” a few lines or a short story.

What if I’m not a great speller or the best at grammar?

Don’t worry about this, do the best you can. The Grammar Police take a holiday for these types of threads. Trust me, I speak from experience.

I have a couple incredibly interesting comments on the show -- but I wasn’t there -- should I go ahead and post them here anyway?

No, this thread is reserved for the lucky fans that attend the concert.

I need to ask a question about the concert -- but I wasn’t there. Should I ask it here?

No, I’m trying for pure Fanviews from the fans who were there.

Are you a Ten Club member? Consider posting your member number and seat location with your Fanview.

A FanView can include but is not limited to such things as your description of Pearl Jams set, the opening bands set, what it took or how you got to the show, how was the pre-party, what did you do after the show, how did you feel?

“THANK YOU” to everyone that has helped make Fanviews a true pleasure to read.

    Thanks for sharing, edwho

Phenomenal show.Super high energy from the band and all the jammers.
The seat mix up,whether on purpose or not put a little more jump into the crowd and the band fed off this.
All the main floor and sides stood the entire (almost) 3 hours.
Just before Daughter,E.V. says,"this is called the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald".Pretty good.Do they read the message pit? Either that or someone keeps them informed.
After the first encore Ed said,"What else is there?".Van Andel went wild.
He then states,"fasten your seat belts"and the band took off for the final assault on our ever appreciative eardrums.
How he could get through Blood after singing all night is amazing.
    Strength.
    Still have many mental images.
    Will for a long time.

    What a great show...

I wasn't sure about Elderly woman as an opener... but when Ed sang I just want to say... and everyone yelled HELLOOOOOOOOOO I saw the light :p

in all honesty, it seemed to me that the band had serious sound problems during the main set. I'm taking a newbie with me in Cincinnati, and I thought if this were the show she had attended she would not have had that much fun. Clearly I loved it because I know all the songs, but a lot of it just sounded like noise....(maybe this was just because I was in the middle of the floor?) I think that's the reason behind the long and absolutely fantastic two encores... especially the second one. After the first I told the person beside me that I hoped they'd have another acoustic set because I had no energy left... and then just literally jumped and yelled throughout the second one. I positively lost it at Comatose and during my first (finally!) Baba. I was keeping my fingers crossed when eddie said it was both Johnny Ramone and Pete Townsend's birthday :)
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.
  • Here is some stuff I posted at the Mosquito. It's actually two separate posts that I combined so that's why it so long, just thought I'd share.
Wow. Best show I've ever been to. Eddie was really jacked, he just seemed to be possessed at times and he changed the set quite a bit on the fly. The new songs sounded amazing. The first encore was very special and completely unique from any I've ever seen. Ed said that this crowd seemed really great and he really meant it and that they were going to try something different and "experiment with you, that's not to say that we're going to fuck with you just experiment". When Sleight of Hand ended Ed strummed a little of Around the Bend and then stopped. The rest of the guys were getting ready for another song but some people in the crowd wanted ATB, so Eddie said that he was messing around with another song there and everyone started yelling for ATB again so he said, do you want ATB? Of course we all said yes and they decided to play it. ED said "O.K. we'll give it a try but we havn't rehearsed it or played it quite sometime so now we're actually fucking with ourselves at this point." Awesome set and show, I was in the 6th row and I am now the proud owner of an orange STONE guitar pick...fuck, what a night. Crazy Mary was awesome. Ed poured some of his wine in a coffee mug and then gave his bottle to the crowd to pass around. During the jam Ed grabbed Mike's arm and pushed him over toward Boom. The back in forth soloing insued and when Mike was finished he returned to the left side of the stage only to have Jeff push him back over. After more serious mind blowing jamming he came back and Jeff pushed him over to Boom again. He returned again and this time as the song was ending Ed set up in a football stance to block McCready if he tried to return. Of course Mike was up to the challenge and tried to get by Ed. They ran into each other and Mike got by just as the song was ending. Hilarious stuff from a very spirited set. I hope this one was video taped.

Grand Rapids is the best show I've seen of the six I've been to. Blew Cleveland out of the water this year.

Let me say that Van Andel was a great arena for the show. New, good acoustics, smaller (12,000). It was a great atmosphere in there.

First off, the crowd was one of the best that I've been a part of. For some reason, Grand Rapids has had two incredible shows and the energy and connection between the band and the fans is evident.

The setlist was the best I've been a part of. They were able to blend in the hits with some real rarities that aren't played very often. Even the casual fans were getting into all of the songs. Red Mosquito, Satan's Bed, Leatherman, and the whole stretch of songs during the first encore were mind blowing.

Cleveland was a fine show, but a letdown compared to this gem. It is going to stand as one of the best of the North American shows. I would definately encourage picking up this bootleg to hear for yourself an absolutely incredible performance.

My 14th show......I think this show is my new favorite that I've been to with Buffalo 03 and Indy 2000 being close behind. The sound mix was great. The band's energy was great. The crowd's energy was great. 3 hours flew by, and you could tell Eddie still didn't want to go. I honestly have no complaints except for the douchebags sitting in front of me who were watching the Pistons game on their Palm Pilot and left 15 songs into the show. They weren't in the Ten CLub. GREAT SHOW.

Oh yeah... I had forgotten about Crazy Mary. I don't like the song too much, but this version absolutely blew me away... the "talking" between Boom and Mike was incredible

On the comparison with Cleveland... I think the encores in GR were the best PJ time I've ever had, but the main set was better in Cleveland. But maybe the main set in GR just sounded subpar from where I was...
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

He said that repeatedly during YL :)
And Mike was on fire... running around like a maniac much more than usual :p

The crowd and band was the best that I've seen yet but I think what really puts this show over the top was the rarities that were played. "We're going to experiment with you"...

    Times played:

Around the Bend (7), Dead Man Walking (4), Hard to Imagine (22), Leatherman (52), Parting Ways (18), Red Mosquito (44), Sleight of Hand (33), Satan's Bed (12), Can't Explain (3)

This was my first PJ concert and let me tell ya I now get it and im hooked. I have been into the bootlegs for a long time and really do love the band just never been able to go. WOW it was amazing. I wanna say thanks to all the regulars who made the trip to our little city. We were as amazed as you when we saw ourselves on the concert list but i guess its from the great concert at the delta plex in 04. This is a really funny place there is a large beating heart for the arts and music and all things fun stuck in a sea of hardcore christian conservitive west michigan so we really show love when a band comes to town.. we really appreciated it. Just listened to the bootleg from the show for the first time and man I had already forgot how truly great it was. Im one who was looking for more of a setlist from second night of toronto. Hammer the hits and jam them down our throats but what we got is so much more special then just the same ole same ole. Crazy Mary was amazing when mike kept running back to jam with the organist hence why it went 10mins eddie tried to tackle him the last time .. it was great. Hes the best I think the plan was be done after BABA and it was a show closer but he went back and grabbed a guitar they were starting to take backstage and insisted they do YL. Highlight of the show for me was when ed did "I cant explain". After he did dead man walking he started to set up the harmonica headset and someone yelled "Happy Birthday Pete Townsend" he smiled took off the harmonica and killed that song. Sucks its not on the boot cause it was one of the real treasures of all time and only the few who where there got to experience it. I still get goosebumps thinking of it. If anyone has it please it please let me know it would mean the world to me. Just my two or three cents from a long time lurker first time poster who just wanted to thank all who attended and made it such a special night . Peace

Unbelievable show, only my second, first was east lansing in 98' in the upper deck when I was 14. It was way too long of a wait. Great energy in GR, I had sec 109 row F which was way beyond my expectations with a 366xxx number. Missed the preshow set becouse my buddy I took with me was a newbie and I thought that since they hadnt been doing it at all this tour we would be better off going to the bar for a while before the show, Oh-well. Sweet set-list, although there were a lot that I was hoping to hear going in like hail hail, nothingman, comeback, state of love and trust I have no complaints what so ever. I loved watching the band look at each other and just shake their heads and smile. You could tell they were loving it. At one point I was standing in the isle alone jamming and pointed at mike and he pointed right back at me nodding his head, awesome. Even after the show my buddy said that was sweet when mike called you out. Seeing Jeff sitting on top of the speakers chilling during Ledbetter was cool, and yes I think it was supposed to be over after Baba but they pulled the guitar back out of the case which made my night. well after getting a drumstick, my night was complete. Thanks guys!

Dude I totally forgot about that it was the most casual version of Ledbetter I have ever heard or seen. It was a laid back big huge sing a long. They coulda played another hour.

Hey, I can finally log in again! :)

Amazing. I don't think I will ever see a better show in my life, not even by Pearl Jam. And who would have thought in my little hometown, Grand Rapids!?!? The crowd was amazing. I had awesome seats too, first row wing Mike side. The first 4 or maybe 5 songs I could hardly hear Ed singing cuz the crowd was singing along so loud. Amazing crowd. So much energy and everything. The band had fun playing and talking to us. Everyone was on their feet yelling every word the entire concert. I almost threw up during the first encore break because I was so tired.

Daughter, Crazy Mary, and Rearview Mirror were the best versions of those songs i have ever heard. Every song had more intensity than it ever has. And the news songs are amazing! Especially WWS! I couldn't believe how it sounded live. This song, for those of you who haven't heard it live, sounds like one of their hardest songs when played live. I will never overlook it again after Friday night.

Sat by some awesome 10C members. We were screaming, high fiving, and catching those who had to much to drink the whole night. It was amazing. I even made eye contact with Ed, Jeff, and Mike. Mike pointed me out, nodded his head, and sent a pic flying my way, but it veered off. In YLB, I was pointing at Jeff and slipped on some spilled beverages and almost fell off the wing seat section, which Jeff proceeded to laugh at me. It was awesome. It's 3 days later and I still can't help but ramble, so I suppose I'll comment more later! I love the new lighting on the new songs too!

Thanks Pearl Jam! I think after this show GR is going to become a regular visit, I really do. :)

I've seen one Midwest show from each tour since '94 (West Lafayette) and this one was the best, even better than Indy 2000 and Summerfest in Milwaukee. Like everyone else, I was amazed at the energy, their willingness to experiment with the set list and their appreciation of the fans. At the end of the evening, all I could think to yell (with what little voice I had left) was "THANK YOU." As much as I would have liked to have been on the floor (106 and we were at the top on Mike's side), I can't complain. I walked out of there feeling like I could change the world.

I'm not bragging here, but you can thank my buddy and I in the fourth row for "Satan's Bed" in Grand Rapids. We held our signs high, and when Eddie saw em and walked over to Stone, I went nuts. Sure enough, I saw Ed mouth the words "Satan's Bed" to Stone and the rest of the boys, and on the fly, they played it. The ten club section went absolutely nuts! I couldn't thank the band enough for the best show on the tour so far...even better than both nights in Ed's former home, Chicago.

And yes, for those wondering, "Can't Explain" was AMAZING. You had to be there...Ed picking up the harmonica, then the guy next to me shouting, "Happy Birthday Pete!", then Ed looking at him, putting down the harm, and going straight into "Can't Explain"...PRICELESS!

Simply put, best show i've ever seen...

This was my 4th show, so I'm a youngster in the 10C world, but it was easily the best show I've ever seen. My friend and I were lucky enough to score front row seats on the right side of the stage. Ed came out before the opener, MMJ, and played Dead Man followed by The Who's Can't Explain, which was a real treat. The first set was just electric, truly amazing. It was the fastest 90 minutes of my life. I can't think of anything that's ever made me feel like that before. I looked at my friend and all I could say was "Wow". We could tell it wasn't going to be just another show and you could see that the band knew this wasn't the typical crowd. I really believe the crowd had a lot to do with the great set. You could tell the band was impressed. They were exchanging smiles, Mike was running around like a mad man and Ed even chased him a little, they were fist-bumping. It was such a great atmosphere. They slowed it down for the second set and played some rarities. Ed said they were "experimenting with" us which is different than "fucking with" us. Before Around The Bend he said "at this point, we're fucking with ourselves". They played a great Crazy Mary followed by Alive, with Eddie standing on the speakers right in front of us, to close the second set. They came out for the third and declared "no more experimenting. We're going to drive it home. 5th gear. Fasten your seatbelts." Ed wasn't lying about that. The last set started with DTE, Comatose and Satan's Bed. At this point in the night, I had used the phrase "holy shit" so many times that it had lost all meaning. They tried to close with Baba O'Rily but the crowd wouldn't let them. They were half way off the stage before coming back to finish with Ledbetter. I'm happy to read that more seasoned 10c members enjoyed the show as much as I did. I will never, NEVER, forget that show. Thanks a lot PJ for a truly awesome night.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me

I was 14th row from the stage on stones side not bad seats for my first time seeing them live. I had a funny feeling all day would get the Who/Ramone tributes with Petes bday and what would of been Joeys. I dont think anyone predicted that 1st encore to get the rarities that were played damn. Plus i was never a fan of Crazy Mary but after hearing Boom and Mike firing off it gives new life to that song. Those guys loved the crowd and it showed. I sang so loudly i lost my voice but for them it was worth it. A must own boot!!

WE LOVE YOU GUYS HERE IN GR!!!!!
As I write this, the radio is playing the concert in it's entirety. Right now it is on Hard to Imagine. If you weren't there...pick up the bootleg (3 discs) because you may be able to imagine it from the messages your five senses will be experiencing. Six if your skin tingles! I listened to my boot download today and my daughter walks in the house 5 minutes after it finished and said,

"Mom, why is the radio turned off? I told you they were going to play the entire concert earlier this afternoon."

She's hooked! Now she gets it...my love for this band is instilled in her as it has always has been and moreso because of this live concert experience in her 19 year old life.

Amanda called to get the tickets the day they went on sale here. I didn't renew my membership in time. I was so happy to hear we were in section 110, a corner section Amanda told me, bottom tier. The map of the VanAndel said that it was a center floor stage.

Well, on Mother's Day, we were looking up the seating chart and she told me we had Floor seats. She grinned. I freaked! "Do you know what this means?" I had said. I was so excited! She shrugged and then smiled. I am a huge fan relating to these guys so much...same age, same a lot of things for instance, I sing and play instruments and know what hard work goes into practicing the music let alone putting on such a high energy show like we saw Friday.

Anyhow, with all of the dancing and singing and smiles and renewed attitude and drunk lady in the parking lot walking up to a bus after the show with water because "Ed needs water" LOL..........It was all so awesome as I laid back getting the biggest kick out of her and laughing between cigarette puffs looking for stars. We were blown away...all of there...transformed into Pearl Jam fans of yesteryear. Renewed in mind body and soul over this band because of the intense connection that was made inside that arena. That Night. Here in Grand Rapids, MI. there was music, laughter, goofing off between songs, during songs...all that taking place up on stage. The energy rose and it didn't seem as though Ed wanted it to stop. I was with my daughter, he and the rest of the guys may have been thinking of their families. Anyways, it was all good!

The stage changed places too so this had put us back in the left corner of the floor. Well, I have been to over 70 concerts in my lifetime and there are usually no shows so I led Amanda up to about the middle and watched from there. We were lucky to have seats where 4 (!) people didn't show. HA! I took a ton of pictures and my girl just went wild along with me, singing and dancing and enjoying every minute of everything going on!

I ended up wearing my Boundless tshirt designed by Jeff A., and she wore the One Hot Minute shirt from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, also a vintage I picked up omany, many years ago now. She quickly put her new PJ shirt over the top of the other right after the first song! I sang songs to her that she didn't know, christ I sang songs to the guy in front of me in his ear with my arms rapped around his neck. He was so cool singing back with me too. We played pretend boyfriend/girlfriend the rest of the night whenever slow songs came up.

ANYHOW, I don't think there will be many people saying they "aren't into PJ that much" around here no more. Finally!
(Closier for me on that point).

    Oh anddddd...

When Matt C. threw his sticks, one landed in front of my daughter and the other hit my ankle lightly but I didn't get it from the floor next to my foot because I was standing on my seat, suddenly holding on for dear life! It was like rocking in a boat for me but I'll say now like I shouted then:

"Us Michigan girls Rule!" ,*Flexin My Arms*, "When the boat Rocks, we don't fall off!"

(This very minute) How appropriate...Leatherman is playing! I am still so geeked.

BTW, this was my third PJ concert -Lansing, GR, GR again!
My daughter's first. We want to see another one and cannot afford it....But,...Optimism will get us everywhere so who knows....!
Behind the building as we left we spotted a Vault drink truck....YOU GUYS ROCKED! Handing out nummy, citrisy, fizzy, cold 20 ouncers off the back of your truck behind the place gotta tell ya...that was sooo great for all of our dry throats...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

I forgot about the Vault truck. A major thank you to those guys. They were just in the back of their truck handing out as many free Vaults as you asked for. Now that's my idea of advertising! :) I tell you, after that I will pick up Vault over many other drinks now. :)

I sat in side stage, first row, Mike's side, with gobrowns19. I have been to four shows total now in under two years, and this one blew them all away, easily. The only one even close was my first, Grand Rapids VFC '04. I went to Detroit as well, and I must say that the crowd at Van Andel was 100 times better even though it was half the size. Permanent 10C ticket mixups anyone? :D

Ed was right when he said that "when they listen to the tapes, they'll think we're bullshittin', but you had to be there." The band may not have been spot on the entire night, but it didn't matter. The encore sets made up for anything and everything. Sleight of Hand, Off he Goes, ATB!, Parting Ways, HTI, Crazy Mary (10 mins!), Alive...DTE, Comatose, Satan's Bed, Leatherman, Blood, Baba...are you kidding me?!? I'm still tired from last night, so I'll expand later possibly.

LoriDee! I remember you from McFaddens! I, um... am trying to describe myself in case you don't recall. I wore a hat... we walked to the bathroom together... haha, ring a bell? I don't really post on here (in fact, I think this is my first post) but I sure do a lot of reading on here. I guess I'm more of the type of person to observe what is going on... anyway, I was thinking after the show how great it was to be able to just wander around the Pearl Jam pre-show environment and just mingle with total strangers, everyone joined together by their love for this band... made me feel like people aren't strangers as long as if they have the same music in their spirits.

I sat right next to the soundboard, I apologized in advance to the girl behind me for being tall, I told her to let me know if I was in her way. Anyway, from time to time I would just let my eyes circle around the arena and marvel at the energy coming from every corner of that place. This was my 4th show, and although I thought nothing could top the Vote for Change experience at the DeltaPlex, I was proven wrong. I've never been to a show where the energy given back and forth from the band to the audience has been so evident.

On the bootleg you can hear some guy yell after they played "Life Wasted" (at 3:52 to be exact) "THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!" That pretty much sums it up... I could go on and on but I don't think any words could describe the total bliss this show put me in.
