The question should be, "What would the super douchebag guy buy?"

We're taking the boys to see the play "A Christmas Carol" this year. My younger son is missing the white Christmas of upstate NY so we thought maybe this would help him get in the Christmas mood.
All the lights here help, but for him it doesn't compare to all the snow we used to get!&&&&&&&&&&&&&&0 -
finally got the lights on the tree...
I am late this year with everything but better late than never.
Just days away now :shock:0 -
I start my volunteer work next week for the homeless while my daughter is sent off to her mother for a week. No tree in the house but a couple Santa stuffed dolls, I did plant some orchid type plants that will probably bloom on the day of Christmas.
The kids got ladders and THEY put up lights on the house and that's it....merry merry.

I have done nothing whatsoever, and I like it.
My only plan is to have dinner and drink with my family at my sister's house... a 15 minute run into the mall will take care of the gifts I need, thanks to my family's decision to each buy a gift for only one (adult) person, rotating to a new person each year (and then 2 kids to buy for). I am SO glad we decided to do that!! Saves so much stress, time, and money! Yet we still maintain the good old sitting around the tree opening gifts thing.
I thought about putting up Christmas lights on my balcony - might be nice for the neighbors to look at - but then I decided it's pretty wasteful electricity-wise, so didn't. Kind of regret it... I have no idea what I'll do this year, but I expect there will be beer involved somewhere. And some Baileys or Southern Comfort. I'm gonna buy a bottle and polish it off before I get to the bar.
Last Christmas was shit. You may remember my grim 'Sorry Everyone' thread? That was the first feverish stage of pneumonia. I'm sure this one won't be so bad.0 -
mmmm Bailey's...
haven't had any yet this year but it is the taste of Christmas for sure.
Hope here is a bottle under the tree with my name on it from you know who
cheers!0 -

I have decided to take a complete break for Christmas. I was think of skipping all the family stuff and go on a road trip somewhere I just don't know where.
I am just not feeling very holiday this year but that could be about being burnt out from work at this time.0 -

The older I get the less I like Christmas time. I don't get depressed or anything, I just see it as a diversion and an obligation to spend money. It's what it's become that bothers me; the need to go shopping, the obligation to giving lots of gifts which is usually a bunch of stuff that no one needs. The media shoving the commercialism down our throats. The radio stations playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving. I've resorted to calling the holiday "Giftmas" because that's how society has exploited the holiday.
If we could just get back to the basics of being kind, respectful and peaceful; what the holiday is supposed to mean, I may be more in the spirit.
I totally agree... my family is very tiny, don't need a special occasion to gather ourselves up, we see each other on a daily basis, for better or worst, most worst lately, all raised as catholic, none of us gives a damn about religion, christ and the such, it's only about the presents, which I hate, and in my country, xmas is during the summer, I hate the hot weather, and I hate the xmas food, basically, because is a tradition taken from the people of the northern hemisphere, so all the food contains many calories and is prepared and aimed for cold weather... I ain't no grinch but give me a break...... I am not in the business of being liked anymore ...0 -

Another thing that's pushed down our throats is that the Christmas tree is put up in public schools around the country and only in the last what, 15 years, have they mentioned and discussed Hanukkah. A pushed upon ideal that we must celebrate late December with gifts, a tree, and an old bearded man dressed in red. And get this, some institutions are talking of taking out the part in "Twas the Night Before Christmas" that mentions that Santa smokes a pipe. Because smoking is bad!
Why is it that if I don't want to celebrate the holiday, that society forces me to, regardless?
I also teach my daughter to give during the whole year to those less fortunate. People need to know that those in need are in need the rest of the year too.0 -
Perhaps everyone would feel less pissed off or irritated if you looked at it all as stuff that makes other people besides you happy or excited, particularly children.
This thread is way more miserable than anything else Christmas related that you're all complaining about. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -

I'm not sure how anyone can really push christmas down your throat. Just because you don't like it, doesn;t mean everyone has to stop doing what they are doing.
As for your last statement, absolutely. I'm sure you are a terrific parent. Christmas is just a time to help highlight those in needs and begin the giving if you haven;t already done so.hippiemom = goodness0 -
