lately, I've been watching and reading a lot of reports about our (USA) heroin addiction epidemic. it kind of blows my mind that this stuff can find it's way out of afghanistan, across the ocean, thru our borders/ports and on into the heartland of our country.

is this an american problem or do all "developed" countries have heroin problems? what about meth? has that made it to europe is is that an american thing? as John Kay said "Goddamn the pusher man!"

our ongoing "war on drugs" needs to take a new direction...

I have freinds who have tried it and basically every other drug in the world, they say it's the BEST, nothing comes close. So won't be trying that ever.

Meth is huge problem and will continue to be a huge problem until Sudafed-type cold medicine is either prescribed or banned. I never see any arrest reports for heroin in the local paper, but it seems like someone is getting busted for meth every day.

My sister is a pharmacist and even though the Sudafed requires a sign-in sheet, the druggies would still buy as much as they can. She took it a step further and moved the Sudafed behind the counter so it wasn't visible and she would ask direct questions to those that inquired about its availability. Within three weeks, word got out and the druggies stopped coming to the store.

The sad (and infuriating) part is that she got verbally reprimanded by the state police because her sign-in log dried up and didn't allow them to track the druggies. They would rather her sell the main ingredient to meth-makers so they can make a bust every once in while instead of cutting-off the problem at the roots.

Her method worked. Their method allows the drug to get manufactured, spread, and poison more people. She diplomatically told the state police to fuck off (essentially) and continues her practice of making it tough to get Sudafed.

Some plants or plant parts simply kill you if consumed....it's all about chemical composition....peaches are yummy, but chew on a peach pit or attempt to consume it equals a really bad thing

I think there should be education programs where young people are shown Before and After photos of people who have become addicted to these drugs. A series of four photos as the person starts to change...

It seems to me that could be an effective way to show what a bad idea it is to get involved with Heroin and Meth.

The new commercials targeted at the young ...
much younger, like early elementary age showing before and after using meth
    are pretty moving.

I have seen this happen to teens, they are left a shell of a human being,
would do anything for the drug.

I have seen their parents broken, though their child stands before them they
    don't recognize them.

Drugs like that take the spirit of the user and crush the souls of their loved ones.

War on Drugs... Battle those drugs until they can not exist and
I have faith that someday they will not be desired anymore.

Interesting, I hadn't heard of that...it's from 2005, I wonder how it went, or if it even happened...I know our feds have been fighting the safe injection sites in Van for years...
I fully support any harm reduction initiative, I think this program makes sense from a safety standpoint. Gotta love the fox news verbage....giving the last word to a reformed addict with a negative stance on the program, and mentioning that some junkies think it's a way for the govt to 'kill them', without substantiating

As for heroin finding our shores....a little suspect, isn't it? That a militarily occupied country can increase production of the stuff exponentially, and find a market for it here. Almost makes you think someone on 'our side' is on the take, huh? Wouldn't be the first time.....Iran/Contra, Air America in Afghanistan, Noriega in Panama....I believe this is one of the main reasons drug reforms don't happen - we'd kill a major black-ops funding source for shady governemnt dealings.

I'm not sure that meth is as big a problem in Canada (I know it's not as big a problem as certain parts of the states, anyway)...but it is still pretty prevalent, and all ephedrine type meds need to be kept behind the counter here....those kind of band-aid fixes might help for a while, but they def wont solve the problem. There is no way of completely irradicating drug use via law enforcement and regulation...Addicts and suppliers are way too savvy/greedy, and are always one step ahead of the people making the laws/regulations. This is an essential truth that MUST be accepted in the WOD's, if we're ever to make progress in saving lives. The first step to solving the problem is admitting you have one, right? Once we admit that, we can look at the most effective ways to HELP addicts, instead of punishing them.
Continuing with the status quo while waiting for some utopian world where no one wants to get fucked up is ludicrous. Like bombing the world into peace. That's been workin well for us.

    a lyric from the 60's

I can relate to the first four lines....I did a lot of shit back in the day but nothing ever got a hold of me

You know I've smoked a lot of grass
O' Lord, I've popped a lot of pills
    But I never touched nothin'
    That my spirit could kill
You know, I've seen a lot of people walkin' 'round
    With tombstones in their eyes
    But the pusher don't care
Ah, if you live or if you die

    God damn, The Pusher
God damn, I say The Pusher
I said God damn, God damn The Pusher man

You know the dealer, the dealer is a man
With the love grass in his hand
Oh but the pusher is a monster
Good God, he's not a natural man
    The dealer for a nickel
Lord, will sell you lots of sweet dreams
Ah, but the pusher ruin your body
Lord, he'll leave your, he'll leave your mind to scream

    God damn, The Pusher
God damn, God damn the Pusher
I said God damn, God, God damn The Pusher man

Well, now if I were the president of this land
You know, I'd declare total war on The Pusher man
I'd cut him if he stands, and I'd shoot him if he'd run
Yes I'd kill him with my Bible and my razor and my gun

    God damn The Pusher
    Gad damn The Pusher
I said God damn, God damn The Pusher man

yes oxycontin a new drug of choice for those with $$$
but the new roxies they are killers ...mixed with acetaminophen makes
    the effects much more powerful

I remember back in the 60's as I approached becoming a teen,
how my father was so against drugs.
He was not a religious man at all but was sure it was evil stuff
and would be the downfall of society itself.

I thought he was way over reacting and went on my journey experimenting.
I was one of the lucky ones, no bad trips for me, no addiction, no arrests.

It is now that I am approaching being really old
and having kids approaching 30 that it all becomes very clear how he felt.

He felt helpless to protect us, protect us girls he loved so much.
Protect us from a changing world. I am sorry if I ever worried him. He was a great man.

One would think parents today would not have to face what he did 45 years ago.
I know each parent out there hopes they can save their child.

Oh No! Come to Broward County if you want to see the sick! 24 doctors... have the authority to prescribe heavy NARCs, that was the count according to the U.S. surgon general . 17 of those Doctors practice "pain management" in my County!!!!. I sliced my hand open while cooking... I needed stiches! I went to all the nearest clinics, trying to get a stich or two, maybe a tetnis shot? WEll the only places avalible only had drugs "medicine" and not doctor on duty. I can get Oxycotin , loratab, crack, pretty much anything but a band aid . You think Zombies are a joke! They are all over South Florida. I forgot how many people in my "county" overdose and die everyday. the count was like 8? people die everyday? I guess florida is too fancy to low grade street drugs? I'm moving far away before the year ends, btw! I wouldn't make stuff up. I do have cited sources, and a dictionary... too lazy.

but in aberdeen washington i saw used needles constantly whilst working my way to and from school.

a list of places i've found used needles. (doesn't mean it was used to shoot heroin either)
    sidewalks...aberdeen
    bus stops...aberdeen
    bus...highway heading to aberdeen
    bus station restroom...aberdeen
    gas station shitter...aberdeen
    the public library shitter...aberdeen

i think aberdeen has a heroin user or users. it could be insulin or even coke or meth they shot up. hhhmmmmm.

probably black tar heroin. the needle i found on the bus was loaded fulla black shit. it was scary looking to me.

once in iowa i found a marijuana seed. somebody had some seeding ass weed.

Big busts here on the news recently...Fed and GBI sting

people driving from faraway states to get prescription painkillers illegally
in what looked like legit pharmacies, Doctor offices and pain clinics.

Workers/ Doctors arrested but the customers went on home empty handed.
Long drive for nothing ... news crews got a few gestures ... they were pissed.

Heroin use seems to ebb and flow. Seems to correspond with war in that region. Warlords need cash to get ammo or weapons? Grow more poppy. Fact of life and NOTHING will change it.

For myself, it was strange. Had been offered that shit twice in my life. What little I knew about it was enough to know I might like it too much. So I never tried it. Still resisted doing something about my "problems" for an awful long time after that.

There IS help available that DOESNT involve methadone. Which in my opinion isnt a solution to H addiction.

The USER has to want the help, otherwise using will start again.
