Does anything truly have the character of the Fisher Price model? ;)
Man I wish I still had mine. I used to rock "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and "Row Row Row Your Boat" on that thing!

Then again...if you've been really good, maybe Santa will put this one in your stocking...

    Audio Technica AT-LP60 Turntable

Dunno if this the right place but does anyone owns this.... if so whats your review on it been thinking of buying this

This is the same turntable that I've been using for almost a year now. I know it's not top of the line by any means, but it does the job and I personally think it sounds great. I paid $100 for mine at my local record store so in my opinion $69 on Amazon is well worth it.

do you need a receiver for this to work??

Mine is plugged directly from the turntable to the soundcard on my Mac Mini. This model has a pre amp built in that you can turn on and off from the back of the unit.

JEEEBUS!!!!! I don't ever think I'll be a "good enough" girl in my whole entire lifetime to get this from Santa!

    lol I've got a naughty side ;)

But I have a feeling that "Santa" was getting me the Crosley.... Can any upgrading be done to these units?
The thing I like most about time is that it's not real. It's all in the head. Sure, it's a useful trick to use if you want to meet someone at a specific place in the universe and have tea or coffee- but that's all it is- a trick. There is no such thing as the past. It exists only in the memory. There is no such thing as the future. It exists only in our imagination. If our watches were truly accurate, the only thing they would ever say is "Now". If I dont want to plug it into a computer, would i need a receiver?

If you're gonna go with a Crosley...you might as well get one with some style.

Not sure what you mean about "upgrading"

Those might be too "cool" for me

I read some reviews that the Crosley has a lot of plastic parts to them which they claim make the LP sound "cheap". So I was thinking that if that's the unit I do get (which I'll be happy with regardless) I could replace the plastic parts (arm part, needle) with better quality parts. Yes? No?

I think that would prove to be difficult and by the time you did that, you could have bought a better turntable to begin with. Again, if you're looking for something simple to just get started that still sounds good and is inexpensive...maybe look into this...

If a turntable has a built-in pre-amp does it need a receiver as well????

Are you looking for a turntable that doesn't need to be connected to anything in order to be heard?
If so, you'll need one with some speakers. Otherwise, a turntable with a pre-amp will need to be connected to something in order to hear it. Whether that is a computer, a receiver, etc. is up to you.

Can you recall what the negative comments were about the Crosley

Mainly that the sound quality wasn't that great and that it was poorly constructed. Some reviews mentioned it would stop working after a short time. I was considering the Crosley for years but held off due to the reviews.

Don't ever buy a Crosley. Its the worst table on the market. You are better off just taking a knife to your LPs. The TMR one is cool, but it will just ruin your records and will sound thin and shitty. If you just want to play LPs and are settling for this brand, just sell your LPs and do someone a favor.

The non USB Audio-Technica is a fine non-audiophile starter table. You don't need a pre-amp for your receiver (It has one built in). The cartridge is good and can be upgraded. Its one of my 3 tables and I've had it for 8 years. Its a good one.

But if you want to dabble in the audiophile waters, the Project Debut III and The Rega P1 or 2 are great starter tables.
