all advice appreciated.
I would appreciate thoughts/comments regarding a Crosley® Tech Turntable.
Thanks
This is the same turntable that I've been using for almost a year now. I know it's not top of the line by any means, but it does the job and I personally think it sounds great. I paid $100 for mine at my local record store so in my opinion $69 on Amazon is well worth it.

I'll echo this. I have the same turntable as I didn't want to spend too much for my first one. I bought it earlier this year and I think it's a good starter, is easy to set up and use, and sounds great. I have it hooked up directly to my living room surround sound receiver.
I've heard/read nothing but bad things about the Crosley models.

You can't see this anywhere else but here, I would never imagine a lady/woman/girl in Argentina asking Santa for a turntable... Right on Pam!!!
Yes.... I Rock!!!
Although I'm one of the world's biggest vinyl advocates, and I only play vinyl or mp3 really - it has to be pointed out that records can sometimes sound like shite! You can get a modern reissue of a classic album, and they've just lifted it from the CD master, or you can get a vintage record that you could tell would sound great if there wasn't so much crackle...... and all records do pick up noise with playing really - it's a delicate way of listening to music, and sometimes you have to just become a bit immune to some extra noise, and appreciate the depth of the sound. After a prolonged spell of CD listening, this can be challenging - and if you've listened to CDs all your life, you might find your enjoyment of the music suffers. Some music does sound better digital, no doubt about it.
Overall though, for me the naturalness of the sound, the depth, the mellowness and warmth of some analog recordings - this is what makes it addictive!

I need to get some kind of cleaning system, there's stuff out there that's supposed to 'wash' the records, but I thought about going just for some kind of brush for now...any suggestions on that?
I was wondering when you'd give your 2 cents on this topic..... and you never cease to crack me up!!!

If you are looking for something to just get started with, Sony makes a decent turntable that has a USB out so you can connect it to your computer. It comes with software to make MP3s of any vinyl you like. It's not as high quality as a Technics or Audio Technica, but it has served me well for the last couple years. Model # is PS-LX300USB
Does anything truly have the character of the Fisher Price model?
Man I wish I still had mine. I used to rock "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and "Row Row Row Your Boat" on that thing!

do you need a receiver for this to work??
Mine is plugged directly from the turntable to the soundcard on my Mac Mini. This model has a pre amp built in that you can turn on and off from the back of the unit.

JEEEBUS!!!!! I don't ever think I'll be a "good enough" girl in my whole entire lifetime to get this from Santa!
lol I've got a naughty side
But I have a feeling that "Santa" was getting me the Crosley.... Can any upgrading be done to these units?
All the more reason Santa should hook you up!
If I dont want to plug it into a computer, would i need a receiver?

Not sure what you mean about "upgrading"
Those might be too "cool" for me
I read some reviews that the Crosley has a lot of plastic parts to them which they claim make the LP sound "cheap". So I was thinking that if that's the unit I do get (which I'll be happy with regardless) I could replace the plastic parts (arm part, needle) with better quality parts. Yes? No?
I think that would prove to be difficult and by the time you did that, you could have bought a better turntable to begin with. Again, if you're looking for something simple to just get started that still sounds good and is inexpensive...maybe look into this...
