Archive #4 has been released. It's not Toronto 2005. It's Tokyo 1990, from the Steel Wheels Tour. I've never heard the show (downloading it now) but it's supposed to be a really good show, pretty heavily bootlegged on DVD and CD for years.

Yeah, me too. There's still two more Archive releases coming, and who knows, maybe more, so there is more opportunity. At least we got Brussels Affair. And a couple of years ago the box set release of Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out, which is worth it if you don't have it. That crazy awesome version of Satisfaction is worth the price alone. Great demonstration of Taylor's rhythm skill (I find his rhythm playing more impressive than his VERY IMPRESSIVE lead ability), then of course later in the song he takes over and noodles like a mad man.

I'm hoping for a complete 1969 show, or a complete 1972 show. And while I would like a Brian Jones era show for posterity's sake, and because the only live document of that era is the sub-par Got Live If You Want It, I wouldn't be nearly as excited as a Taylor era show. Brian had a lot going on. Charisma, leadership, style, etc. But he wasn't the greatest guitar player.

Downloading it now. I'm liking it so far. Never get sick of hearing the same songs all the time. How's the Muddy Waters Chicago show?

I haven't heard it yet. I pre-ordered it, but it hasn't shipped yet. Even though the official release date was yesterday.

It appears all month long the BBC Radio 6 is going to be putting up Stones concerts, interviews and other stuff. Right now they have the Leeds '71 show up. I've been hoping for this as one of the Archive series. And while this sounds pretty good, it could use with a bit more cleaning up and mixing.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01kcwgm/6_Music_Classic_Concert_The_Rolling_Stones_at_Leeds_University_1971/

It would appear some of the tracks are out of order though. Or at least in a different order than the "Get Your Leeds Lungs Out" bootleg tracklisting.

Suntory, a Japanese distillery, is releasing a series of whiskey to commemorate the 50th Anniversary. Only 150 bottles are being produced, and expect to sell for around $6,000. The whiskey is a blend of different whiskey and grains, each coming from a milestone year in the band's career. A '62 Yamazaki from the year of the band's inception, a '71 Yamazaki for the year the tongue and lips logo was created, a '72 Yamazaki malt marking the release of "Exile On Main St." and a Hakushu malt from '90 commemorating the band's first trip to Japan.

And all in this swanky bottle...

    Rolling-Stones-Whiskey.jpeg

That's all well and good. But why pay $6k for a bottle of Japanese whiskey when in reality the Stones were Jack fans?

According to the daily news the stones will play 4 shows this November, 2 in London and 2 in Brooklyn. :)
  • According to the daily news the stones will play 4 shows this November, 2 in London and 2 in Brooklyn. :)

Yes, to the best of my knowledge this has been proven as fact.

    Also a few new releases.

    1. A new compilation, for some reason titled "Grrr", with an equally confusing cover. It will include two new tracks that the band finished in August titled "Gloom And Doom" & "One Last Shot". It will be available in 4 formats.

    Rolling-Stones01.jpg

    a.) 50-track, 3-CD digipak with 24-page booklet
    b.) 50-track, 3-CD box-set with 36-page hardcover book and 5 postcards
    c.) 50-track, 5-12" vinyl boxset
d.) 80-track, 4-CD box-set with bonus CD, 7" vinyl, hardcover book, poster, and postcard

    2. Brussels Affair - Live 1973 Box Set. A little too pricey for me (the boxes range from $750-$1500) for a recording I already own. It comes with the show on vinyl, a watch, and several other things, the more pricey ones are actually signed by Mick.

    BGAMRS61.JPG

    Description of $1500 "Art Edition"

    Units available: 73

Limited-Edition Book, numbered and hand-signed by Mick Jagger, Michael Putland and Nick Kent.

Limited-Edition Silver Gelatin Print, hand-signed by the photographer, Michael Putland (only 73 available).

Album: 180-gram Triple-Vinyl Set of the complete Brussels concert.

Watch: ’70s-era “Tongue & Lips” Watch—Japan Seiko movement and stainless steel face with brass dial.

History: In 1973, the government of France banned the Rolling Stones from entering French territory because of various run-ins with the law—most of them occurring during summer of 1971, while the band members were in the South of France, recording one of their masterpieces, Exile on Main St. This was a blow to the Stones’ hordes of French fans, who would be shut out from experiencing the Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band In The World on their 1973 European Tour in support of the newly released Goats Head Soup. That October, the band organized a concert across the Belgian border in Brussels, and a local radio station chartered a bus to transport French fans to the now-historic gig.

All the sights and sounds from this historic show and tour have now been amassed for the first time in The Brussels Affair, the inaugural release from the Stones Archive. The package features an 180-gram triple-vinyl album and rare photographs from the Brussels show by Claude Gassian, as well a book documenting the entire 1973 European tour, with exclusive photographs from Michael Putland and a newly written text by acclaimed NME scribe Nick Kent.

A friend of mine said that The Barclays only have 2 dates open in November(22nd & 26th i think).

You would have to think it would be announced SOON?( if this is to happen in November)

The Stones are releasing their 1964 Self-Titled EP for the Record Store Day Black Friday event.

Original cover, I'm guessing it will be pretty much the same thing.

I don't know if it says in that article, but the last of the 4 shows, December 15th in Newark, NJ, is going to be broadcast live on Pay-Per-View.

I've got the original 7" of this that my Dad bought in 1964, along with the Five By Five EP and their self-titled first LP. It still gets played every now and then, they sound so raw on it! It's in surprisingly good condition considering it's 48 years old now - it crackles like an open fire but that makes it sound even better! :D

Part of me is hoping they'll extend their tour. I've only caught the Stones live once, in 2003, and wouldn't mind checking them out once more.

I wouldn't worry too much no doubt there will be a full scale tour next year.
  • My bro tried to buy tickets to the o2 gig, cheapest were £110 for the worst seats in the venue. They went before he had a chance to get them, the next cheapest, and I shit you not, were £360 each up in the gods, to the side. I knew The Stones milked their live shows, but my respect for them just took a massive hit.

so i'm a little lit and seeing this post about the stones anniversary made me want to share.

My father always said that he would love to see the stones before he dies. At the time this was just a phrase he uses as some people still do to talk about bucketlist items. He always said this so it was well known and usually laughed by my brother and I and we would move on.

Well one day I get an email from the ten club about how Pearl Jam (at the time they were my all time favorite.. still love them but i'm not as obsessed) was going to open for the Rolling Stones who were my dads all time favorite. So yeah, I got tickets. I told my brother about it and told him I was going to give the tickets to Dad on fathers day.

So we went to Red Lobster (yeah we're classy like that) and sat for dinner, consumed large amounts of seafood, then hung out for a minute to give cards/presents. My brother got my dad a framed Rolling Stones record which my dad liked but seemed kinda like "huh?" as he wasn't really a music paraphernalia collector. I handed dad my card and I am sure he assumed money would fall out cause he kinda made that catching motion people do when thats what they're expecting (but they try to play it off like they weren't expecting money). Only these blue things fell out which confused him.

    "What are these?"

"Dad, what was it you always said you wanted to do before you died?". So being a man who wore his heart on his sleeve, his eyes were pools as he knew instantly what was happening.

"WE'RE GOING TO SEE THE STONES?!". Yup, he freaked out.

Took care of the hotel and the transportation and a few months later we were in Pittsburgh seeing my favorite band open for his favorite band. It was pretty amazing.

We were never really close and we had an unusual relationship (insert generic divorced parents story here) at best but that weekend is probably the best moment i can think of we had together.

My father was not diagnosed at the time but 2 years later he was found with lung cancer and passed in 2011. I have the Record my brother gave him and the ticket stubs behind the glass and this memory forever. Thank you ten club
  • London shows sold out in 7 minutes

Tickets to see the Rolling Stones at the O2 Arena next month sold out in just seven minutes this morning.

Reports suggest that the cheapest seats, costing around £95, sold out within three minutes, while even the most expensive tickets (£375) had been snapped up seven minutes after going on sale at 9am this morning.

Even before the tickets sold out, many users attempting to purchase tickets were directed to a holding page on Ticketmaster which read:

"We're experiencing high demand. You will be automatically directed to the page requested as soon as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience."

Tickets to see the British rock band at the O2 Arena in London as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations are now being sold for as much as £12500 on some ticket resale websites.

Looking forward to trying to get tix next Friday :fp:

Great story, though I'm sorry your dad passed. It's really cool you guys got to have that concert together though. I wish I had gotten to see one of the Pearl Jam/Stones shows, but when they came here on that tour we got Matchbox 20, Dave Matthews Band and Smashing Pumpkins. Although I probably wouldn't have paid much attention to Pearl Jam, or whoever, I was there for the Stones.

By the way, what did your dad think of Pearl Jam? Did Ed do a guest spot during the Stones set or anything? I know he has before, and The Stones are fond of bringing out guests from the opening acts to play with them.

Dad was impressed by pearl jam. They said it during the show that they had a job to do tonight meaning they knew their place as opening act.

Ed came out to duet on Wild Horses which I think is a favorite of RS to have guests sing on.

I know it's their favorite to have Ed sing, the only other person I've seen Mick duet that song with is Dave Matthews. But I think Dave prefers to do Memory Motel. They didn't bring out any guests when I've seen them, even though Dave is a frequent collaborator and he was there when I saw them in '97. Though before Mick brings out Dave Matthews at the '97 St. Louis show (which was on PPV and later released on DVD) he does mention that he first met Dave in Texas "in the middle of nowhere" at a "concrete place", a reference to the Texas Motor Speedway show, so I'm guessing the reason he didn't come out is because he JUST met them.

Rumor has it that the next official bootleg release is a Toronto club gig from 2005!

It wasn't the "next" one, but they did release it. Out on Google Play now, StonesArchive.com to follow shortly.

To be honest, I'm not all that excited about an "archive" release from their last tour. But it's still cool. This leaves just one more Archive release. Or maybe they'll do more, I don't know, but hopefully the next one is from the Brian Jones era, we haven't had any Brian yet.

    Anyways, here it is...

Yet another release is coming out. I'm not sure when it was announced, but it's coming out November 6th. And this is one a lot of Stones fans have been waiting for a proper release of, even though you can find copies, and it's been released in Japan.

"Charlie Is My Darling", the first Stones documentary, recorded during their two day tour of Ireland in 1965.

    51UATpAwpTL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

There's also going to be a Super Deluxe Box, that actually seems like a good price, for the Stones at least. And after free Amazon shipping, it's actually cheaper than PJ20 Deluxe 3 DVD set was ;) sorry had to do it

It's $71 on Amazon and you get...
The Rolling Stones Charlie is my Darling - Ireland 1965 Super Deluxe Box Set includes both DVD and Blu-ray discs that incorporate the new 2012 version of the film as well as the director s cut and producer s cut, plus significant unseen additional performance and other footage shot in Dublin and Belfast in September of 1965, bonus content, two audio CDs, one of which is the film s soundtrack album and the other a compilation of 13 live recordings the band made over the course of their 1965 UK tour. A 10 inch vinyl record of the live material is also part of the package, as well as a replica poster heralding the September 4, 1965 date they played in Belfast. The Super Deluxe box is housed in an ingeniously designed luxurious soft touch package, each featuring one of over 200 Limited Edition numbered and enlarged cells randomly inserted from the film. There is also a stunning 42 page Collector s Edition hardcover book that includes 14 never before seen, and painstakingly restored exclusive photographs, including the key art, of the band from the Irish Photo Archive/Lensmen Photo Archive as well as color photos taken by Marc Sharatt, the Stones tour photographer. Reprints of vintage newspaper and magazine articles from the UK and Irish press that offer accounts of the dates and attendant mayhem are included as are essays from American rock journalist and Rolling Stone Magazine staffer David Fricke and GRAMMY and Academy Award winning Irish singer/songwriter/actor Glen Hansard. A featured recollection from Reverend Donor Macneice, who was recently located living in Thailand and whose attendance at the '65 Belfast show nearly cost him his job after he was spotted on the local news is also part of the package.

    510iOgqpf0L._SL500_AA300_.jpg

I'm definitely getting that. Especially since the soundtrack and compilation of the UK '65 tour isn't being released separately, at least not yet.

    EDIT

This keeps getting better, and now I don't feel so bad about no Jones era Archive Series release (unless they do for the last one) because there's lots of good stuff in the audio portion of the box. Here's the tracklisting for the CD's and Vinyl that come in the box set.

"Charlie Is My Darling" Original Soundtrack Track Listing/CD

Apparently the boys just played a secret club gig in Paris, warming up. Tickets were $20, man I would have loved to be in France today, or night over there.

    Setlist:

    Route 66
It's Only Rock & Roll (But I LIke It)
    Shattered
    When The Whip Comes Down
    Champagne And Reefer
    Doom And Gloom
    Miss You
    Start Me Up
    Midnight Rambler
    Tumbling Dice
    Jumpin' Jack Flash
    Brown Sugar

Pretty short, and heavy on Some Girls tracks, but it was just a warmup. And if I got to see the Stones in a club, I'd pay a whole lot more than $20, regardless of setlist length.
