Obviously we want Of the Earth to be on the new record. I wouldn't mind if they just kept the live performance of it on the new album. Especially this version

Maybe I'm the only one, but I don't like of The Earth in the slightest. To me it's a self-indulgent hodge-podge of random and mediocre song parts, played in a key which doesn't lend itself to the way Eddie sings nowadays.

I'll admit - if it were Eddie and company farting on a snare drum for 37 minutes, I'd still probably buy it...

Of The Earth isn't even being recorded in the studio, so no, it won't be on the new record. They have said they made several attempts at recording it, but it never sounded the way they wanted it to.
I would highly doubt they'd throw an old, given-away-for-free-download song (Ole will have been out for a year by the time the new record comes out, at LEAST) onto a new record.

My guess is that the new album sounds like Backspacer 2.
I really hope not...
I was really looking forward to the six month follow up album Mike talked about with Backspacer leftovers.. Guess its gonna be 3+ years again for the new album.. I wish they could be more spontaneous like Neil.. Maybe we're spoiled. :?
It's not about the quantity, it's about the quality.
Quality has never beeen an issue
Quantity and quality were both an issue on the last album. Well, sorta...Hypothetically if BS was up to PJ's standards it would've been too short. Since it wasn't all that great 37 minutes was plenty.
I want an album that sounds like it has some thought put into it.

I would think that the touring as much as they do would be what's slowing down the album process. Of course if they toured less to make more albums more often then people would complain about that.
Greatest band in the world, yet they can't win. Reminds me of Louis CK bit. "Everything is amazing and no one is happy"

What makes you guys think that Backspacer is an album which hasn't some thought put into it and conclusively isn't a qualitative work? Just give a good listen to Just Breathe, Amongst The Waves, Unthought Known, Speed Of Sound, Force Of Nature and The End. I'm talking about the half album here.

Agree to disagree here! With the exception of what they did to Speed Of Sound between the demo and the official release, I actually think Backspacer is a seriously well-composed pop album.

To me backspacer is simple and boring. Individually, Eddie had some nice songs, Unthought, Just Breathe, The End. As a unit, pearl jam is much much much much much better than backspacer. It has no depth to me, no meaning like all the other pj albums do. Its fun I guess, but who wants a "fun" album from pearl jam?!!! I want something that exploits the creative genius that is pearl jam.
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...
i think we are in for a long wait until the new album...end 2012 or even 2013
I hate to agree with you on this, but I think you're right.
Now lets just pray that we get more Stone written music and more Mike soaring solos than Backspacer had.
