The privileged daughter of a prominent city doctor, and her boyfriend — a Harvard grad and Occupy Wall Street activist — have been busted for allegedly having a cache of weapons and a bombmaking explosive in their Greenwich Village apartment.
Morgan Gliedman — who is nine-months pregnant — and her baby daddy, Aaron Greene, 31, also had instructions on making bombs, including a stack of papers with a cover sheet titled, “The Terrorist Encyclopedia,’’ sources told The Post yesterday.
People who know Greene say his political views are “extreme,” the sources said.
Cops found the stash in the couple’s West Ninth Street home Saturday when they went there to look for Gliedman, 27, who was wanted for alleged credit-card theft.
A detective discovered a plastic container with seven grams of a white chemical powder called HMTD, which is so powerful, cops evacuated several nearby buildings.
Police also found a flare launcher, which is a commercial replica of a grenade launcher; a modified 12 gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun; ammo; and nine high-capacity rifle magazines, the sources said.
Cops also allegedly uncovered papers about creating homemade booby traps, improvised submachine guns, and various handwritten notebooks containing chemical formulas.
The couple’s arrest Saturday was a sharp turn from their privileged backgrounds.
Gliedman, who grew up on Park Avenue, graduated from Dalton in 2002. Her dad, Dr. Paul Gliedman, is director of radiation oncology at Beth Israel Hospital, Brooklyn Division.
Paul Gliedman — who was included in New York magazine’s list of top doctors in 2011 — received his medical degree from Columbia University.
Morgan’s mother, Susyn Schops Gliedman, is a realtor with Prudential Douglas Elliman.
Greene attended Harvard as an undergraduate and did his graduate work at the university’s Kennedy School of Government.
He has five prior run-ins with the police, with the charges including, assault, and weapons possession, sources said.
Byrnzie; glad to see this thread pulled back into current events. So quickly we forget. I was also reading Brian's post about his frustrations here on AMT. A thread now locked. Ps.to someone; thanks for the tip on magnesium deficiency.
These two threads go together. I'm not as inclined to find time to post here anymore simply because AMT is too fluid. Yes, i like the info provided by many on many topics. I read, I learn. However, I originally came here because it was political and hoped to find a body of people ready to to move in-unison in regard to a handful of issues. Topics that need our attention to stay fixed on but this does not happen here. Basically, it doesn't really happen on most political forums I've visited.
Someone posted here saying regardless of the medley of types coming together, the Occupy movement makes them feel American proud to see so many people moving in-unison. Me too. I don't live in a big city but I've often wondered about the passion behind folks, (tea party or occupy, or any grass root movement that I don't even need to agree with) which compels these folk to leave the spectator couch of life. Sure, there's the handful that can be counted upon to always show up for the sport of it but so what? For us, the mass, it's the en-masse that counts and behind nearly every movement, valid concerns do reside.
The Occupy movement symbolizes so much, one of which is our willingness to be critical of people, who unlike so many of us -- actually move from the complacency couch. Also, the extremes in which powermongers will move in order to counter our en-masse moves; to curtail the potential power of a democracy. I keep thinking we have evolved to a point now where we can clearly see just how much we have to lose if we continue to allow suppression to ebb away our freer-than-ever chance. This is not just an American debacle.
Originally, I was excited when I first came here to AMT. Here, I thought was a sort of internet occupy. A place where our voice could gain momentum much like theirs did only we wouldn't have to take a day off to attend rallies in the rain! But, we'd have to stick to a few topics. And though I've tried to do this here, this concept wanes. As of late, I'm trying to figure out how to get something like this going elsewhere and if I do, I'll let you all know and invite you to help me get it started.
There are sites which keep their focus on specific topics; the occupy has now gone viral, the EFF (electronic Frontier Foundation who works to protect our internet freedoms) and Public Citizen, where those folks move en-masse to extract our democracy from the hands of the highest bidders. However, many of these sites don't really provide much in the way of an energized forum where a person actually feels their voice resonates. Mostly, donating $$ is how you make your voice heard.
I had once envisioned AMT could be "the cool forum". The place where world masses could assemble a real presence behind a variety of topics we ALL agree: need our en-masse weight.
Yes, the fluidity of AMT is great. However, there's plenty of room for both fluid topics and permanent ones but it is US who must choose to stick a few which is why I'm so glad to see this thread resurrected. The fundamental base underlying the Occupy -- is a fundamental base for all masses of this world. And resurrecting just this, once fluid thread, indicates this AMT body can, anytime we want, create something new.

hmm...anyone ever heard about astro-turfing?
it's title comes from hidden hands paying people to spring together, like a grassroots movement, to rally for or against something. I think Insurance companies are most guilty of this tactic. Politicians of course, and unions.
What I liked about both the tea party and Occupy movements was their inception. When people really did spring together. Soon thereafter though, the money it takes to keep us "springing together" has to come from someplace. After all, we have jobs.

any proof of this allegation????

They found explosives and weapons along with a terrorist manual in their apartment what more proof do you need?
