The first modern era record I bought was Ten and that was in 2002. I am 31 years old. Hard to believe, but all of the music I listened to from middle school through I was 18 was 50s, 60s & 70s music. Hand on my heart.

I'm comfortable with that track record. As embarassing as Limp Bizkit and Korn were by themselves (remember those pants? And those stupid Yankees hats? OzzFest? The Family Values tour??? :)) ), that was about as far down the cringe-worthy rock or "nu-metal" pipe I ever got.

Good way of putting it, Vant. I am also comfortable with my track record; it is what it is.

I saw Theory of a Deadman, Trapt and Socialburn all on one bill. I can't remember whose "show" it was, but I was pretty into the post-grunge-not-quite-metal stuff for a while.

And I'm 29. So, when I was into this crap, I was also getting into Pearl Jam. I didn't fall off the musical scale into the realm of PJ and forget about everything else. Pearl Jam has proven their greatness over time while other bands fall off, but I certainly listening to lots and lots and lots of different stuff. And a lot of it has faded into being trapped by time and forever will be looked at with a nostalgic lense.

PJ, you can play in two of the most literate cities in the US if you play MN. Take your pick: st. paul or minneapolis. We're an educated crowd who loves your intelligent band. :-)

i, too, was a classic rock teenager. growing up my father figure listened to the doors and other 60-70s bands. pink floyd blew my mind when i was 14-15. the forrest gump soundtrack in 94 introduced to me to a range of artists, and i spun that cd all the time. i got into classical and movie scores (jurassic park ftw!) from being in school band. i bought stuff like weird al and guns n roses, but i was listening to them when i was 10. it was pink floyd that changed my life in terms of music.

i didn't REALLY get into pearl jam until 95, my senior year. other alternative acts of the time (nirvana, stp, the pumpkins, etc.) never did much for me until after i was in college, if they ever did at all. besides alternative, rap/hip hop and pop music were generally the biggest sellers between 92-96 and none of those really did anything for me like pink floyd or zeppelin did. i will say i am a sucker for janet jackson's .janet album, though. meat loaf's bat out of hell 2 is another. bands of the era that i feel i actually *listened* to during that era include pearl jam, r.e.m., they might be giants, garbage, dave matthews band, blind melon, and metallica, but really most of those i started listening to intently only just before or during my senior year- and all of them took a back seat to pink floyd.

sure, i can look at top 50 lists of songs from 92-96 and recognize the majority of them, but i couldn't tell you three songs off of whatever album bone thugs' tha crossroads is on, the lyrics to water runs dry, or the tracklisting off in utero. my music interests were never in line with what my friends were listening to. i remember buying jj cale's guitar man album in 1996 and playing that at a party only to have it taken out within minutes. granted, it wasn't an album to really party to, but i was excited about it and i remember feeling dejected that no one else cared to listen to it.
  • My friends are trying to out Harold Ramis each other. One's watching Stripes. The other is watching Meatballs. Me...I am going about my life normally.

Well, I guess I'm still listening to stuff from the early 2000s. That's not normal. So.........there ya go.

Everything is worth it on st. Patricks day

St. Patrick's Day is great, if you're 22.

St. Patrick's Day is, along with New Year's Eve and Halloween, one of the worst nights of the year to be out in an American bar.

St. Patrick's Day ruins bad beer with food coloring.

St. Patrick's Day makes a random Tuesday at a decent sports bar a drunken overpriced mess.

St. Patrick's Day gives white people "fun" ethnicity. You know, the kind you can take on or off, not the kind that could exclude you from a job or housing or get you picked up by the cops.

I modify that last part: St. Patrick's Day gives cops a reason to racially profile white people. Fair is fair.

    Bah humbug! :))

    He still lives here.

The TV broadcast is brutal. People like Bremer but he dicks around too much for my taste.

And I disagree that the Twins are hopeless. They are a few years away, but they're getting some pieces in place. Prior to the division titles in the 2000s, they built up their farm system, just like they are now. Who knows what will happen, but "hopeless" is a pretty strong word.
