There was a thread about GA for this tour and people lining up for it before shows (some kid was going to line up OVERNIGHT).
It's never crossed my mind, not once, to line up for GA. Am I crazy, or does standing in line all day with a bunch of trolly weirdos just to then get inside and crowd up the sweaty hairy bodies of said trolly weirdos for another 5 hours sound utterly awful?
I'm all for seeing PJ, but if avoiding all that means I have to stand at the back of the GA section, so be it. Back of the section it is.

I think the $$$ (which they usually follow) is in Europe and Australia for 2014.
Yes.
If you don't, why do you bother?
Why would there be more $$ to be had in Europe and Australia than there is here in the good ol' U.S. of A? Am I simple in thinking that a tour is a tour is a tour is a tour, no matter where it is???

europe, at least, usually has a lot of festival shows, which any band will tell you require a lot less work/time/planning ($$$) on the band's side than the usual touring schedule. europe is a much smaller continent, so travel is much cheaper and easier, too. it all adds up in the end. plus, i genuinely think they enjoy playing for international crowds more than in the states. so i think there's plenty of incentive for them to get out and "oh, see the world".
but i definitely think they'll do some shows in the states next year, though. there hasn't ever been a year they haven't, so... maybe not a 6-week tour like in the fall, but some festivals (river's edge?) and hopefully mid-continent states that didn't get the lightning bolt tour.0 -

i won't waste my time, either. back of the floor with some space to move (and being able to have a couple beers at a bar before the show) is much more preferable than the situation you described.
i was disappointed in the 2003 block seating deal because it meant if you wanted good floor seats you had to line up early (but at least you didn't have to stick around once you got them). my seats towards the back of the xcel floor in 03 were plenty good for me. but i'm still glad they did away with that after that tour.0 -

ahh yes, that makes sense. thanks! I guess i just don't agree with the "they follow the $$" as if they're sell-out rock/pop stars. They definitely are a unique touring band..0 -

That's pretty much it. And on top of all that, it's ridiculous to fault a band for playing wherever they can. If the band can play sold out shows in Boston or Vienna or Sydney, why should we be surprised when they choose one or both of the latter? ...sorry Boston...why wouldn't the guys relish to opportunities to see the world and get paid for it? We PJ fans haven't really done a very good job of drawing a line in the sand either...we all seem to follow them wherever they go, so the incentive to spread shows around maybe isn't there?
I don't know. I guess this all goes back to the "what does the band owe you?" argument. They don't owe us anything, and if I really have a problem with what songs they play or cities they hit or politics they support, I can always stop giving them my money.
As far as a tour next year, I'm thinking we may see a repeat of 09/10 tour. Six weeks or so in the fall, six weeks or so in the following spring, maybe into another Aussie or Euro tour. In 2010, they hit a lot of areas they didn't hit in 2009, so I think the spring/summer may bode well for Minnesota. How's that for hope?1998-06-30 Minneapolis

Did anyone else just pull out their wallet to buy one of the Wrigley setlist shirts, and then when you saw what they looked like and that they were for $35, put your wallet away?
I did. I could picture Hannah's head shake at me when she found out I ordered another t-shirt I didn't need. I'm proud of my self-control.1998-06-30 Minneapolis

i didn't go as far as pulling out my wallet, but I did check it out and was disappointed. I thought it would a llllllittle cooler.
I'm sure Hanna will still shake her head when you tell her what you did/didn't do.0 -

It was definitely in line with the Wrigley merch, nothing I had to have and nothing I was going to shell out $35 for. I did appreciate the free shipping though.1998-06-30 Minneapolis

My friends: "We heard Eddie Vedder was at Target field this weekend"
Me: "That's strange because the Twin's were not playing there - you must mean Seattle"
Friends: "No we heard Target Field"
Me: "Was he playing with Soul Assylum then?"
Friends: "Who?"
Sure they were referring to this, http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_23746793/minnesota-twins-eddie-vedder-visits-again but thought the conversation was funny anyways
