By the way, does anyone know what was happening during Come Back last night? There seemed to be some confusion in the band.
Yeah, that was funny as shit. I was 2nd row Mike's side (first time that close) and about 30 seconds into Come Back, Jeff asked Mike, "what key are we in?". Stone was cracking up and Ed was laughing and giving Jeff strange looks the rest of the song. It was hilarious.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a
ride"!

I was 5th row on Mike's side; right on the aisle. Yeah they seemed to be laughing and having a good time. Man I hope I get second row for tonight's show. I've never been that close either. Lucky you!

On a personal note, coming from California, I wasn't sure what to expect from my first shows in Canada but Calgary and Edmonton blew me away, awesome 10c seats (5th row both nights) and the setlists were remarkable.
Met so many friendly fans ...
Wait, this was my line!
Honestly, the best part of this trip so far has been the folks from Canada. They have been nothing short of amazing. Hell, the couple we met the night before the Edmonton show are giving me and a friend a ride to the airport tomorrow ... for no other reason than, they want to. AND they booked a flight in Vancouver WHILE WE WERE AT THE PREPARTY and are coming out to hang with us. This after meeting cool people in Calgary that we convinced to come up to Edmonton. Fuckin' aye Canada ... Fuckin' aye.
Tonight's show was fantastic ... Ed's moment during the Wasted Reprise was something I've only seen him do during Arc ... so much emotion shown. Pretty moving, honestly.
Consider myself lucky getting Wash for a second time ... always a stunner.
Congrats to fifthelement for getting front row, so happy for her and her rkcndy, good things for good people!
The thing about these Canadian shows, the band is having so much fun ... you gotta love when they are up there pouring their hearts into every song.
And to top it off, a stunner of a poster from EMEK ... finally, a show I'm at has a top top TOP notch poster.
ok, time for bed, a Canada trip wouldn't be complete if I didn't come stumbling back to my hotel at 2 am reeking of poutine and Molson ... bring on Vancouver!
+1 I also came from California and am gobsmacked at how awesome the people have been. I love Canada!!!!!!!
A phenomenal show with a different but still outstanding vibe from the Calgary show. I just hope this feeling of amazement and wonder never leaves me when I go to PJ shows.
Highlights for me were definitely U and "Not For You", my all time favourite song.
This was also my first show outside my home town so now I feel like a REAL fan.
Best concert I have ever been to. This was a "fans" show. If you just love the hits, you would have been disappointed. The crowd was unreal(we in Edmonton really shit the bed in 05), and the emotion showed by the band(Ed in particular) was contagious. I highly doubt I will see a better concert in my lifetime. Thank you, Pearl Jam & 10 club.
For me, the "turning point" (and that's not quite what I mean, but I got back to Calgary at 2:59am and slept fitfully) was "Daughter". It was a good show up till then--but from "Daughter" onwards it seemed clear the band wanted to kill the audience (think Stone in PJ20). It was an unreal run-in. Best "Alive" I've heard since my first one--this was show #32 for me--and the second encore was just...well, words fail me (again, 2:59am). Anyway. Last night was my seventh and final show of 2011. I'd love to go to Vancouver--I priced it out yesterday--but I'm happy having yesterday as my finale of this wonderful, wonderful tour. From Alpine to Edmonton it's been an incredible, galvanizing experience.

My 5th show, and a stunner. So much energy flowing, the band, and us-the crowd. Congrats to both.Everyone ROCKED IT last night. Do you think its possible that they made a swing through my home town(Rocky Mtn. House) and Eddie picked up that shirt? Cause if they did, and i missed them i would be some disappointed. But seriously, floor seats 2 shows in a row? Thanks a bundle 10c, especially after the presale fiasco
10 club newbie, so I was in row 19 last night, but it was still an incredible experience. Probably the greatest show I've ever been too...it was so intense that I was actually physically exhausted at the end of the night! Thanks to PJ and the 10 club!!!
Amazing! Fucking amazing! Highlights were my boyfriend dancing crazy to "Got Some'' in front of the security guard when he told us not to dance in the aisle, and the security guard just giving up! And the 10 year old boy across the aisle from me playing on his ipad with his headphones on...me taking his headphones off and setting down his ipad and trying to get him to dance with me. He was not impressed...but I tried! Thanks pj for playing Severed Hand and Marker in the Sand. More Binaural please next time. Edmonton loves you...Please "Come Back"!

possibly the best setlist so far, come back, life wasted, wash, severed hand, present tense, marker......... now that I think about it that IS the best setlist so far, congrats Edmonton goers, congrats
This was a good setlist Toronto 1 is the gem of the tour.

That would be my son, haha I don't think he's ready for concerts yet, maybe when the band comes back again he'll enjoy it more. To bad we had to leave during the second encore, he was too tired. Would have loved to hear better man live, still hearing a lot of bsides, i'm happy. Kudos to your BF for dancing in front of the guard, it's a f'ing rock concert not a church get together
Fuckin awesome show! Won first row lottery, mike handed me his pick when he saw my Seattle sign, said 'thank you' got a swift of Ed's wine..., and fifthelement got an ed pick and setlist...THANK YOU PJ AND 10 CLUB...a night to remember!
Great to finally meet you guys! Glad you had an awesome show as well.
We were back in the 13th but had a blast, we had awesome ppl around us and the crowd was amazing !!
Had to finally "join" the 10 Club after that...::: Superb gig last night! Personally, Calgary's setlist was more suited to me and my favorites BUT the performance last night was absolutely sizzling. Black had goose bumps coming off my skin and damn near drew a tear from me. I never tire of Why Go and remembered how well they cranked that one out at the Convention Center here back in August of '93. That slow jam with the WMA/ABITW tease during Daughter had me levitating from my seat in the front row, first section off the floor, Stone side. And "Not For You" had me feeling all giddy and warm inside
Wanna thank the fans for doing there part to make the show special for the band. Right on the money with the lyrics/singing and Ed's cues, not to mention EVERYONE stood from when the lights went down until they went on after the end of that 2nd encore. No brawls, lots of smiles and high-fives. However, there was one slow song, can't think of which one right now, that the band quieted riiiight down towards the end and I had a feeling Ed would have given us a subtle, nearly accapella ending if the crowd woulda hushed instead of cheered but that rarely is able to happen in an arena-type venue. I've seen stoner crowds in the northwest do it though . Also, a thumbs up to the Rexall Place staff and security. There was no overzealous bullying whatsoever by the security in the far floor aisle, Stone side. They were nabbing dudes trying to bolt up front or loitering in the aisle but I saw not a one escorted out, taken down or physically confronted, which I certainly can't say for many other shows I've been at there. Oh, and let me take a moment to thank Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Jah, Krishna, Yahweh, Dog and Lemmy for early, outdoor mechandising tents. Hallelujah!!
The dude with the absolute, hands-down BEST PJ shirt I've (never) seen, a full-on, red Canadian PJ hockey sweater (did they sell them out east?), was tossed a tambourine by Ed; how fitting I thought. Btw, who was the lucky dude that got that very first tambourine on Stone side? It kinda seemed like Ed had planned to give him one; nothing random about that toss and catch. Of course there's Nathan who thousands of people in Edmonton now feel like they've had a drink with! He told Ed he was 15 and Ed says "I'll buy you a drink in 6 years." and I was like "Yo Ed, you can come a few years sooner than that my man!" And boy did the band ever have fun jamming with Mudhoney...lol!!! Have they been doing that for each of these Cnd. gigs? I was really hoping for a 'Who' cover song encore, like we got at the Convention center in '93, but you won't hear me complainin' about "Rockin' In the Free World"
Thanks to band and crew, crowd, staff and everyone for making this a memorable evening for my wife and I.
Peace and JAMS!!

Your son was so cute! Hope I didn't scare him too much! The security guards left us alone after a while. They need to just let us rock!
After the Calgary and Edmonton shows, all I can say is wow. Both setlists were just epic, the best shows I've seen since Sep 05 in Toronto. Last night in Edmonton was very special for me. I moved out west 6 years ago, the night of my going away party some friends were in a drunk driving accident while en route to my party. One of them, Aaron, didn't make it. He was as big a PJ fan as I am, and his favorite tune was always Present Tense. I've been waiting to hear it live ever since, and when they did it last night, I was definitely teary eyed, blown away, and never been so thankful to be a fan of this truly amazing band. I've seen them 15x now, starting in 91, and they just keep getting better. How they remember all the songs, the intensity they play with, and the way they treat their fans is unlike any other music act of the last 30 years. They look like they could play for another 20. Here's hoping they do. Just wow. I broke 3 PJ cherries this week, and everyone I took just kind of stood there for the first few songs with their jaws on the ground.
To everyone on this site and all PJ fans out there, you're all truly amazing people. The times I've had over the years I'll never forget. The love of this band and what they're about is an amazing thing to share with people all over the world.
To the band themselves, your fans love you because you don't treat them like revenue. That means more than you'll ever know. You guys are the greatest band in the world, and no one else is even close.Have fun in Van everyone, and keep spreading the Jam.
I was only able to make it out to Calgary and Edmonton this year, and wow, not much more I can say that hasn't already been said! I was in row 15 centre in Cgy and 14 Mike side here in Edm.
My only complaint of the Edm show is with the a**hole security guard who made sure to walk the aisle for EVERY song and make sure that nobody was taking any video. I was only able to get a few seconds of the start of a few songs before he would come up to me and tell me to put my phone down. He actually threatened to take away the iphone of the guy beside me.
He was also on a power trip about making sure everyone stayed out of the aisle, going so far as to shine his flashlight on your shoes and stare you in the face until you actually moved.
Aside from that, it was great to see the crowd so involved. Gotta love the 10c, nothing better than being among people who can sing every song along with you, not just the radio hits
Fantastic show. Amazing fucking crowd. Great setlist, though I missed the first four and a half songs 'waiting on a friend'. Calgary and Edmonton were both amazing, for different reasons. Love the amount of requests they accommodated both nights. Thanks to the Ten Club for the 11th row (and middleish) floor tickets both nights!
In some ways Edmonton was tighter and intense, and for some songs, there was some shaky kind of guesswork (well, just in Come Back really). But none of that mattered. The mutual admiration all around was just great. Not that I'm complaining whatsoever, but I happened to notice:
-Matt had this "I'm suddenly lost as to when exactly I come back in" look on his face at the end of an otherwise fucking perfect Present Tense, and came in (I believe) a bar late.
-Black was super tight, and Mike was singing beautifully with his guitar, but I felt like Matt forced the band out of the climax of the song a bit prematurely, depending on how you look at it. It totally worked amazingly well, I just wanted to hear a bit more of Mike's wailing.
-Come Back was super sweet, especially since my friend really wanted to hear it more than anything else. It was funny watching them during this song, but in the end they essentially pulled it off.
Super tired from the last few days. To anyone seeing them in Vancouver: Have a fucking blast. The band is very much ON.

One of the best shows Ive been to yet. Couldnt ask for more. Ran in to someone I had met at a work event the week before in Regina, which was a weird coincidence. We geeked out to PJ at the event, then literally he was sitting right next to me at the show! Awesomely weird coincidence!

Another outstanding show and crowd again last night! I got Row 13 Mike's side thanks to Rattzey. It was the end of a far too fast three show run for me and I'm feeling pretty devastated. Half way home from Edmonton today I had convinced myself to just keep driving to Vancouver. But in the end I didn't do it. Damn. :(
Wash to open just made my jaw drop! Complete surprise for sure and I knew right away it was going to be a special show. Present Tense into Black was one of the most beautiful song transitions I've ever heard. I completely lost my shit when they played U. I've been wanting that one for a long time. I was happy to see Avacado get some more recogniton. Love Severed Hand live and even though Come Back was a bit rough that song is so emotional live and just sucks me in. Also really happy to finally hear Half Full live. Such a great song from a great album. Like someone already said this band is ON! They're playing so tight but still having a lot of fun. Vancouver is going to go off tomorrow! Hope everyone going enjoys it and just blows the lid off the joint. I'm confident it'll be an extra special Canadian Tour ender.
This past week has been unreal! Three of the best shows and setlists I've ever seen from this band. Cheers to everyone I met and got to hang with. Can't wait to do it again next year when PJ tour the States (Gorge 2012? Yes please! )
Thanks for everything Mr. and Mrs. Guitar59. It was awesome touring with you guys. I hope you guys have a blast in Vancouver! I so wish I was there with you!
So awesome! Didn't see you there but did see fifth get the pick and setlist...didn't know it was her, haha. Congrats to both!

Envious of all you heading off to Van!
My response to this would actually be GOOD, I am 42 and have been going to concerts since I was 11 and let me tell you one thing, NO ONE @ concerts has ANY consideration for others anymore. I can not stand the fact also that most people @ shows are doing everything but listening to the music or watching the band. EVERY show I go to now the majority of the crowd is just holding up their freaking phone, PUT THE PHONES DOWN ALREADY!
Or if you insist on doing it do it for 30 seconds or a minute @ most, but most people don't do that, they hold their damn phones up for 10 minutes or more and when there are so many people doing this the people behind or around them have a hard time seeing what is going on. The other thing is that a LOT of bands and performers are starting to crack down on it, I seem to agree with them in this case, people should watch and listen to the damn show, not talk, text or film during the entire show/concert.
Wow! Every concert seems like the setlists keep getting better and better, hard to believe, but WOW! If I had seen this show, the very middle section of the concert would have melted my brain! Marker, Down, U, Present Tense, and Black...some of my all time faves. Come Back would have been sweet, too. Can't wait for the boots! I'm petitioning for a PJ Canadian Tour 2011 box to be released to mark this very special leg of the tour. See my thread in the Given to Fly section of the forum!!!
Truth be told, I wanna live my life with the volume full!

Awesome concert. Way better (and longer) than last time they were in Edmonton.
I lucked out and won the lotto for row 2 dead center. I wanted to lord it over one of my co-workers who's also a fan, but he ended up winning row 1 on Stone's side. Imagine my surpise when he wandered over to comment on the quality of our seats.
The band was definitely into it the whole concert. I think Mike made eye contact with every single person in the first 5 rows at least once. Manage to snag a Mike pick off the floor as well. Eddie got emotional and shed some tears twice, the first time commenting on how much he loves his bandmates, which lead into the highlight for me Wasted Reprise-> Life Wasted. Laughed when Jeff couldn't figure out what key Come Back was in.
U, PT, Last Kiss, Daughter->WMA (wish they played the whole thing), and RITFW were all great standouts as well.
Side note, anyone want to trade a medium Oilers tour shirt for my large one? Didn't shrink at all and is definitely too large for me.
What a show! The talent and raw emotion of these guys in person is something that never ceases to amaze me. Lucked out and won front row lottery tix through the fan club. THANKS 10C and PJ. What a show!!!! EMEK did the poster too....when I showed up I was like how much better could this get.....THEN I saw the EMEK posters.....sweet jesus......FIRST ROW!!!!! My girl even touched Ed....I have a suspicious feeling when we made sweet love that night she wasnt thinking about me......shes pregnant and during my favourite song Black, the litle fella was moving around BUT just during that song....funny

You do realize that 99% of the arena would walk out if they played more then 3 rarities right? It's not just about you....
Severed Hand, Marker In The Sand, Down, U, 1/2 Full are not songs the typical concert attendee are going to know.

One of the best shows Ive been to yet. Couldnt ask for more. Ran in to someone I had met at a work event the week before in Regina, which was a weird coincidence. We geeked out to PJ at the event, then literally he was sitting right next to me at the show! Awesomely weird coincidence!

Yes please!
Thanks for everything Mr. and Mrs. Guitar59. It was awesome touring with you guys. I hope you guys have a blast in Vancouver! I so wish I was there with you!
