    Hi Scots!

The Mrs. and I are planning a trip to Glasgow later this year.

I was wondering if it was easier to take a train (4.5 hours) to get to Glasgow from London, or is it easier to fly?

I noticed that most flights from London to Glasgow depart from airports other then LHR. Is it a chore to get from Heathrow to Gatwick, etc.

    Train vs Plane?

Also, in what part of Glasgow do you recommend we stay.....we like to go to record shops, clothing shops, etc.

    Thanks!

Joe - you guys have to go to a place called Oran Mor. The artwork in the hallway (and one of the main halls) is done by a local artist/author called Alasdair Gray, he's excellent. Plus the food is great!

There are so many live music venues in Glasgow there's bound to be something you can see when you're over here! We're probably going to be seeing Monster Magnet in Glasgow in late November. Not sure how long you're up here for, but depending on the weather (and if you're up for it) hire a car and head north for a few days - you won't regret it!

Not sure about flying vs train - both have their advantages and disadvantages. I'd just go with whatever is going to be cheapest (or quickest if time is more of an issue)! :)

    thanks for the info!

We have a few gigs lined-up....Wilco and James.

Train seems like the least stressful!

Have only just seen this. I regularly take the train to Scotland (although to Edinburgh rather than Glasgow) ... when booking the trains the cheapest tickets (advance) tend to go on sale around 12 weeks prior to travel ... and buying 2 x singles is often cheaper than buying a return.

For going to Glasgow you would probably be travelling http://www.virgintrains.co.uk (London Euston to Glasgow Central)

... and this site will tell you when the cheap tickets become available

    http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_far ... izons.html

If you do wish to fly I think British Airways have flights between Heathrow and Glasgow

    http://www.ba.com

.... and if you have time and have never been would definitely recommend a trip over to Edinburgh (can also be done by train) ... one of my favourite cities in the world ;)
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

I would go to T - In The Park if it was the only option but it's far from ideal. It's such a great setting and if the weather is good even better but it's definately not a PJ kind of crowd unfortunately. How about a summer gig at Borough Briggs.. :D You must be able to shoehorn at least 5000 - 6000 in that magnificent little theatre of dreams!! ;)

It was indeed 2007! In fact... that scares the shit out of me... That was FOUR years ago?!? Wow... time flies... Fantastic show though, the Foo's seemed genuinely taken aback by the reaction.

I'd rather it wasn't TITP, but I'd say that's the most likely place they'll go to. They would be much better off doing their own show...

ALSO in Aberdeen, we have a venue called The Tunnels... Mudhoney played there last year - now THAT would be ideal, guys!! :D

I don't think PJ sell enough albums over here to be of interest to the TITP promoters to be honest. The AECC or SECC are probably the most realistic venues or a couple of nights at the Glasgow Academy but I couldn't see Scotland getting two shows ever. The Edinburgh Playhouse is such an under-rated venue for me, I've seen some great shows there and PJ could make that place shake like nobody else!! :D

  • I think if the band were to play Edinburgh Castle once then we would see them back in Scotland regularly.

They seem to have a love affair with certain atmospheric venues (e.g the Arena in Verona) and the castle has got to be up there as one of the most unique venues in Europe.

I wouldn't complain if they played Rockness either though :D
