If these guys bashed gays in anyway or denounced homosexuality, then that would make them gay homophobes. I'm assuming that's a correct assumption with these men.

My advice to these fellows- be honest with yourself, be honest with your words. Kind of like "If you hate something, don't you do it too" but more like "If you do something, don't hate it too."
"It's a sad and beautiful world"
    -Roberto Benigni

  • Most homophobes are hiding something. They are insecure about something. They feel ashamed of what they might be.

When I see an adult male acting homophobic, I usually think they might be gay or bi. Most straight people or gay people who are comfortable with their sexuality are accepting of others sexual preferances.. Some very straight men even go to gay bars to pick up women.

That's why I can feel complete comfort in saying on most days are try to be as gay as possible but some times it doesn't turn out that way. I have to also add more amd more these days I'm feeling a huge connection with the gay community. My fellow train friends you'll never imagine how connected that situation and situations really is.... :D

Not sure they are afraid of homosexuals... threatened that is ...
if that is what homophobe means.... that word is used by the gay community... yes?
in kind of a derogatory way towards straight people...yes/no? for those who do
    not understand nor embrace homosexuality.

I'd say they are threatened about losing their status in their professional lives....
No different then countless performers, professionals, religious leaders, etc etc
So many not comfortable coming out for fear of losing what they have wanted
and worked hard for in their lives.

Not sure whose fault that is, we have but one life here, live it openly and honestly.

That is the way of change.

To most folks, it means "racism" toward gays or the gay community. Think of it like this: take the sentence you wrote above (or any sentence that might depict gays in a negative light) and insert "blacks". If the new sentence smacks of racism, then it probably smacks of homophobia as well. So for example:

"No offense man but the black thing just gives me the hebie jebies."

Kinda racist, so, there you go.

For the above logic to have strength, you have to agree that homosexuality is as pre-determined and genetic as race. I think most people these days agree it's not a "choice" to be gay, but whether it's as ingrained in DNA as race, I don't know. I'm willing to be educated.

I like this saying/meaning which speaks of the fear which leads to hate...

The wise man teaches that fear leads to anger, and anger leads to hate, but fear and hate aren't the same thing. "Phobia" still means fear, but in some of its compounds, -phobia's meaning has split between fear and hate. And homophobia has a three-way split, including that fear or loathing of one's own homosexual leanings. Why not use autohomophobia for that third sense? The word is out there. It's not in dictionaries yet, but it should be. Every society seems to produce both gays and those with antipathy to all things gay. Inevitably, they sometimes overlap.

I have some close friends who are bisexual but live the gay lifestyle as their choice...
I'm sure it can just as well work the other way and does.

We are who we are.... and find beauty in what we find attractive.
I never saw choice there.... more instinct on a most basic level mixed with a spiritual response.

You know what I think though.... been through this ....

Quite honestly, a lot of people find me personally to be a bit threatening. I do look kinda mean. Even gay people say I scare them a bit.

But we're talking about the guys who actively campaign against equal rights and protections for gay people. We're talking about guys like George Rekkers who ran an ex-gay "treatment center" and actually testified before congress against the gay community and then was found hiring rent boys to "carry his bag" to France.

Read some of the other stories and you'll see what a bunch of hypocrites these guys are.

If you are uncomfortable about my being gay, it's not something that I really understand (it's not like you're going to accidentally blow me, right?) but as long as you don't actively fight against my rights, you're entitled to your own feelings. I just hope that with time you can see that I'm no threat to you.

it's called social construct prince ... he doesn't have the heebie jeebies because of anything tangible ... it's the way he was brought up ... the societal forces that has formed his opinion ...

Being gay is NEVER a "choice."

Deciding whether to live out as your self or hidden in accordance with the social rules of your community IS.

Nobody has ever decided to be gay. It has never happened. The people who say it has are the ones trying to come up with a good excuse for denying us basic human rights.

Prince how do you feel about obvious famous gay people, who are still in the closet? For example:
    11684_prince_l.jpg
    or
    Brian%20Williams.jpg
Do you think they have a responsiblity to come out and champion equality or do you respect there right to stay in the closet?
