Whatever you do, don't watch Cast Away with Tom Hanks before you fly.

    or any other time.

i'm a big tom hanks fan, but when the costar is a volley ball. uhg

Or 'Fearless' with Jeff Bridges. (Just the one sequence in the air fucking haunted me after seeing that!)
instead watch La Bamba!! Thats a good one. Ooooh or Airport '75!!!! Even better preflight entertainment.

    Passenger 57! Wesley snipes!
    I'll be back
  • one word. xanax. worked for me. and i have a huge fear of it. first time i flew i was 7. then didnt again till i was 30. i was scared shitless. and i was alone too.but i took a couple xanax (that my dr gave me) and i felt better. and better.
then on way home, i had a few too many beers in airport and this hot girl was sitting next to me and i was talking to her.
then i fell asleep. and i was dreaming of her or someone elseand i could hear myself talking in my dream. like in my sleep, but knew i was doing it. i woke up and kept my eyes closed and thought to myself, wtf did i say. i opened my eyes and she just looked at me. lmfao. i asked if i was talking in my sleep and shes like, ahh ya.
    fucking embarassing.
    but ya, xanax.
    Just, not enough.
    I need more.
    Nothing seems to satisfy.
I said, I dont want it.
    I just need it.
To breathe, to feel, to know Im alive.
  • I always take Xanax before I fly, but it doesn't get rid of my fear of flying. Instead, it just makes me not give a shit about the fears I have. I wish it were a magic pill that made me joyfully get on a plane.

I was never afraid of flying.. My thought was that I have had a good life and if it's my time to die, then so be it..

A few years back I was engaged to a person I really didn't want to be with.. we flew to key west and I was terrified for the first time in my life on a plane.. I didn't want to die being so unhappy in my life..

Since I have broken up, and life is good again, I once again have no fear..

but seriously, read my original thread...

I did this course: http://www.fearofflyinghelp.com/ it takes about an hour, but it just repeated everything I already knew.

I got Xanax and did a test run...all I did was laugh hysterically at stupid things. That will probably help me get thru security alone.

Oceanic Flight 815, from Sydney to LAX, was a good flight too :D

    Now that is funny

Glad you got it, the writer from Lost, the best show ever, Damon Lindeloff said that when he travels, the airline for whatever reason would announce that a writer from the hit TV show Lost was on the flight, then people would panic and demand to get off the flight. I wonder if Tom Hanks and others got such static? I would love to be aboard a flight with the Lost guys. Though my trip from Philly to PJ 20 does have any magical islands anywhere near in it's path. So my Lost fantasy will have to hold for another trip. :D

  • I went 10 years without flying partially because of this, now I love the takeoffs, especially on the Boeing-757 and Airbus 319, 320 series. I am flying an embraner 90 to Toronto, so I'm a little nervous because on 737s you feel it more, but I think I'll be ok.

Before 911 I had flown many times never scared at all but sitting in the airport that mrng not knowing what was in store. I was freaking out for the first time. That was the first I had ever felt bad or scared on a plane! I had to ask for a bloody mary to calm me down everyone looked at me like I was a drunk at the time. I couldn't stop shaking I didn't know why.
Then the pilot comes on the radio says we gotta turn around and head back. Didn't say why, we were clueless but they didn't say cause it would of been out of control and wouldve scared everybody cause of what was going on in New York and Washington. We sat on the runway for 4 hrs it was a parking lot mind you I was on american airlines headed to Florida. But long story put short bloody mary for me, that and a xanie bar and I am good.
I fly out Friday and return Tuesday I look at it like get your rest while on the plane cause I don't see a whole lot of sleep for me this weekend.
    until next time......

I love flying. Turbulence just makes it more exciting!

The worst part is the lines to get in the airport/through security/on the plane/off the plane...

Ipod + window seat means I can be comfortable and not bored for atleast 5 hour flights. My longest was 7 and the last 2 hours I was getting anxious to get there and get off.

48 hours till we leave for the airport to go to Alpine!

TV's are cool, but I don't usually watch the movie that's playing...

Another thought, I have never been stuck on the tarmac for any extended period of time, but I'm sure that would get boring pretty fast... even though you would be flying traveling hundreds of miles in a couple hours...

It's weird. I used to have no fear. I have bungee jumped, done every roller coaster I could get my hands on, the rides at the top of the Statosphere, nothing scared me. All of a sudden a couple of years ago it's like a switch flipped. Riding in airplanes freaks the fuck out of me (I used to love it). Three years ago I had a panic attack on a roller coater at Disney and it scared the living fuck out of me. It's to the point now that if I'm in a car and not driving, just not good...and forget about sitting in the back seat. Not going to happen.

hehe...i'm a bad passenger. i guess it was because i was so used to be the driver that when i would be the passneger it would just bug me. i'd say go when the light turned green, always looking around when a lane change was happening...bugging about gas and brake pedal useage level. lift off the gas, and coast to the light....that sort of thing

    i'm better now.

Got in a pretty nasty wreck when in high school and was the same way about driving for a few years. I got over it when I moved to LA and was a broke ass college student who could only afford a pedal bike. I endured my friends' crazy ass driving on the LA freeways and by the time I finished I could completely relax while others drove. Tough at first, sorry to hear that this is impacting you in many areas, being freaked out fucking sucks.

The other thing while driving that freaks me out are those single lane ridiculously high on/off ramps from highways (members here in Phoenix know what I'm talking about). I was in Vegas last March and driving alone behind the casinos (I think its Highway 15) and there was a single lane ramp that was taking me back to my hotel which exited to the right but swooped very steeply and sharply to the left to get back to the strip. I was in the lane and last minute pulled out and took side streets back to the strip. Added about thirty minutes to the drive but just couldnt do it. The mind is a weird fucking place sometimes.
