Sadly sometimes it has to. Not saying that's a good thing.d. It is meant to help a family or individual in need not every individual in the country .
OK. And luckily, the vast majority of America isn't on welfare. And I'm talking about the gov. cant do hardly anything right. Do you really want them in control of your health and your future. Do they really know you? Are they really going to do right by you and your family?
As opposed to the insurance companies that are in charge of it now whose only mandate is to make money? Yeah... actually... coming from Canada and knowing how much better their system works... I'm quite comfortable with the government handling my health insurance. And NOBODY has said the Government will be in charge of your healthcare... just paying for it. Your treatment should be up to you and your doctor... unlike now when it's up to some guy at your insurance company whose job it is to find a loophole to cut off your coverage.
great post. as a Canadian i find it funny how people still believe that the government tells us citizens what we can and can't do with our health. i have major health problems in the past and not one time did a politician tell me what i can and can't do. the final decision was mine with help from my doctor.
Keep your pinko agenda to the north. Have you not learned anything from AMT? We Americans can get free health care in the ER or just get it from one of the physicians in the neighborhood. If we do have insurance, we prefer that someone over the phone a thousand miles away, operating within the good will of the free market, make our healthcare decisions for us. I just learned from Sean Hannity last night that the riots in the U.K. are a result of entitlement programs, and that the same thing will happen in the U.S. if nothing changes. Today, I started digging my bunker.0 -

state, county, city, regional, gas, sales, beer&wine, fica just to scratch the surface. if we include fee's the list is endless.

Year TFD Percentage tax burden
2011 April 12 28.0%
I'm going to tally up my taxes... the 60% still sounds kinda high to me.
And did you know that you can write off your state and local taxes, sales taxes, property taxes and vehicle registration fees (based on the vehicles value, not including excessive gross curb weight or gas guzzler add-ons) against your gross Federal Income?
The numbers I used was what your 2010 adjusted income tax would be. 21% of your 2010 taxable income, after your Schedule A deductions (including home mortgage interests) from the gross income. To get to 60% of $100,000.00 (taxable), you need to come up with $39,000.00 in other taxes... city, state, gas, phone, sales, property, Federal Excise Taxes, etc... (most of which gets to be written off of your Federal Taxes). $39K is a LOT of money to come up with... unless you do stuff like buy a new car every month or buy a new set of tires every week... or buy a case of beer every 10 minutes.
The 28%... yeah, i can see that (an additional 9% or so). But and additional 39%? I don't know... I know mine aren't that high... and I'm about at that $100K (gross) mark.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

When you start talking about my house burning down or getting robbed I'd call that being intolerant. And again I never said I wanted to wipe the gov. out I'd just like to see some real changes to the system. So it can actually help people. The welfare system is broken. The healthcare system is broken. Social security is broken. I mean you dong have a problem with someone walking up to your family as you go into the grocery store offering to buy your groceries for .50 on the dollar? And go volunteer sometime in your local nursing home. And pay attention as to how they completely abuse the system. So I'll say it again I'm not against the system but the system needs to be completely reworked. And as far as taxes go I make around $35,000 a yr. and with all the little taxes that you don't pay attention to like 3 different taxes on my home phone line alone. Just an example. I do pay around .60 on the dollar. Taxes on gas alone are around .57 a gallon depending on where I stop and get gas. We live very modestly I refuse to pay for tv so no cable/sat. And my son is always telling me he is the only kid at school without it. I don't have a smart phone. We don't have new cars. We give what we can. And help where we can. So I have no problem helping out people in need. I don't have a problem paying taxes. I don't have a problem with the military. I just don't like big gov.0

I understand the taxes on things like your phone bill... but, seriously... add them up. What is the total per month? Multiply that by 12. What is the total?
My electric bill, for example... $0.07 a month in tax. $0.84 anually in additional taxes. That means I need to have $138,999.16 in other taxes if my 2010 taxable income is $100,000.00. Sound like kind of a lot.
...
And we all understand that there is abuse in the system. But, instead of going after a system that actually helps a lot of people... how about going after the ones that abuse the system? Including the retailers (i.e. Mom and Pop small businesses) that participate in and make money from the cheaters... like the doctors and lawyers who cheat Medicare.
Personally, I don't care so much that they are taking my tax dollars... I am more concerned that they are taking money/food from people who REALLY need it. i think punishing the whole because of the actions of a few will nt do anyone any good.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! religious, atheist, and all the other labels society says we have to wear around our neck. As long as everyone plays the label game they will keep fighting amongst themselves. Instead of actually trying to do some good for their community and country. But pay me no attention I'm just an American construction worker with a deadbeat job and no future(as referee to in another thread). But I don't depend on gov. for healthcare, retirement, cell phone,Internet, or any other privileges life has to offer. I work for it just like generations past. And I work hard for it. And you know what it makes me feel good when I get home at night. I'm all for helping people out. But at some point people have to help themselves. It's not the federal gov. job to take care of the individual its up to the individual and the community.
So I guess you're labeling the current generation as dependent on the government and lacking a work ethic?
YES. Just look at the people on this board. The only good government is bigger government.
If you speak of limiting gov't, they whine about policemen and teachers and "infrastructure", as if our country would fall apart if some roadcrew got its budget trimmed.
well our bridges and roads are falling apart. at least in the older cities and areas of the country.
and the person mentioning government regulations is spot on. regulations, thing like OSHA (sic?) protect workers like yourself. that is so-called big government and not wasteful spending.
personally i think all government should get out of the pensions business. let the workers pay to support their own retirement funds like the rest of the us. that concept is outdated.
oh and teachers should work 12 months a year with regular vacations like the rest of american workers. surely we can find things in the communities for teachers to do during the summers. we pay their salaries why do we let them work only 9 months a year? it's an inefficient pratice rooted in the past in my opinion.0
