Funny you say that... I've been tearing my hair out trying to find a ticket for Foo Fighters for tonight's show in Toronto for face value all morning

For me, I love those guys. High-energy, don't take themselves too seriously, and they seem like genuine people who love to make music, and love to share it.

Generally, when I give a band countless chances, I start to notice things about it that make me appreciate it for what it is, and nuances that make it unique. If I can't like a band, I can often like things about it, if that makes sense.

Kinda the same for me. I don't really like anything other than the singles and I think those are really their best tunes for the most part. Usually with great bands the other tunes are what really hooks you in. I don't think FF have that.

I think a good portion of their tunes sounds repetitive. They're like a much cooler version of Nickelback, which still doesn't put them very high on my list.

I've been searching for the right words when people ask me "how can you not like the Foo's!?", Im going to quote you word for word and stress with great importance the Nickelback reference!

Add Arcade Fire to my list. Wake Up is fantastic, but the rest of it just boring. They have a few songs that start off ok, but none of them go anywhere.
  • Arcade Fire and Radiohead. Tried, just make me hate myself.

Foos are great, the music is good, but the live show is out of this world. General admission on the floor still feels like 1992.
They have so many songs built for live-shows.
Dave writes his songs from the heart, not so he can score chicks and theme-song WWE Raw - a la Nickelback.

Music is so personal...for example why do people like new country music?
for me: foo fighters are sick...only saw them once at at tiny club with Mike Watt and EV in NYC back in 1995...i'd go see them again if i had a pot to p**s in...all $$$ are now invested to support the Canadian economy by chasing PJ around a bit
  • Wow. To each their own I guess. Arcade Fire is awesome to me.

I'm so easy to please. I pretty much like everything.

I agree. Way too generic of a sound to me.

There have been a few bands that I was really, really into, and now (after listening too much I guess), I just can't listen to them anymore.

    Grateful Dead
    Phish
    Allman Brothers

I don't know what happened, i just don't like them anymore.

I still like Jerry Garcia's solo stuff though.

sleater Kinney- without bashing them, and I'm not, I tried, I really did. I liked "Modern Girl" and "Jumpers" but couldn't get into anything else. I really did try.

Phish is a mixed bag for me. A friend in High school bought their "Farmhouse" album- and I loved it. Also liked "Billy Breathes" alot cause my cousin had that. Listend to a few more like "joy" and didn't connect with it as well, same with "round room. " I did see Trey Anastasio open for Tom Petty a few years ago, and thought he was good- like I said, a mixed bag. 8-)

  • Foo Fighters compared to Nickleback? WOW. Just.....WOW. NB is terrible cock rock. Foo are awesome. Nothing generic about them. Seen them live every single time they've come through town. I don't listen to much mainstream rock radio anymore, but I always dig the Foos.

I didn't like Neil Young much until Le Noise.

i agree with whomever said the national. wanted to like them, but, meh...

also the decemberists. thought the newest records would do it for me, but nope.

    good topic.
  • Wilco for sure.
Fewer chances, but Radiohead as well.
Fewer chances than that, but Arcade Fire too.

    Nothing new there.
I'm not big on Nirvana and never was.
Neil Young and Crazy Horse....nope, not for me.
    Grateful Dead
    Flaming Lips.

MMJ was huge for me when I first began listening....my interest has faded considerably.
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

Probably arcade fire. Ive only given them like 3 chances but after the 3rd I was so uninterested I gave up and have zero interest in trying again. They have got to be the most over rated and boring band ive ever heard.

Dream Theatre. Every time I tell someone I love Queensryche they tell me I will love Dream Theatre. Not so much.

    Also The National.

Radiohead, MMJ (whom I saw EIGHT times with PJ). I think in general I just don't like higher pitched voices, and both Radiohead and MMJ have a higher pitched frontman. Phish neither.

I love Dave G. and the Mighty Fighters of the Foo. These, on the other hand, are the bands/artists that I probably should like (kinda), but don't:

    Arcade Fire
    My Morning Jacket
    Kings of Leon
    Bruce Springsteen
    Radiohead
    Dave Matthews Band
    Phish
    Wilco
    Tool
    ...

Edit: Reading through the thread after I posted this, it looks like I'm just your average guy on most of these... :)
