Great album. You Must Burn! might be their heaviest song since Sad But True. Love it.

I can't believe how great James' voice sounds. He may even sound better than he did in the 90's.

I'm 50/50 I think 5 I love and the rest are like 3 ideas all chucked into a song that they don't fit together. The lyrics are cringe and so basic. And some of it sounds like maiden which I'm not a fan of. But at least 5 songs are great. I love that Kirk has a brilliant solo in every a song. And Lars sounds very good

saw an interview with James and he was basically saying "this record I wanted everyone's input...come on kirk, show me something". the guy who previously wanted complete control (with Lars) all these years now bitching that people don't contribute? at least that's how I took it. seems kinda funny.

going to listen this weekend over a whiskey or two for sure.

They stopped that overcontrol around Load and ReLoad. There's a quote from James in their Behind The Music where he talks about how it "was cold" (in the 80's) but now (late 90's) they "don't stand behind Kirk and Jason tapping them on the shoulder saying 'That note...I didn't write that note for you.'"

Plus, you see them collaborating in Some Kind of Monster for St. Anger, and all the songs on Death Magnetic are credited to the entire band. But with Hardwired, Kirk doesn't have a single writing credit. So maybe that's what James is talking about. They've been more a team since 2003, but Kirk might not have been carrying his weight over the past decade or so.

Kirk (allegedly) lost his iPhone that had hundreds of song ideas on it when they were recording Hardwired which is why he ended up without a writing credit. I have seen James comment on that in an interview before and based off his facial expressions it doesn't seem that he believes Kirk's story. Seems like he think Kirk was just out of ideas at the time.

Good to hear it's being well received. I've been blasting the 5.98 EP cassette in my car & spinning Master of Puppets. Don't think I'll ever get to this one. Maybe...
