  • I just listened to "homecoming" by kayne west which features chris martin from coldplay and it is really a good song. I would like to see EV do something with a similar artist, but i dont think it would ever happen.

imo not a great idea...kinda like jumping the shark..but hey something with beck, trent or chris c....that would be cool

its the worst idea since R Kelly decided to video his shagging sessions.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

wait a minute, weren't Ed and John Legend doing something for a Howard Zinn program or something??? I'm not sure if it was together or they were both contributing individually... Those two together could work.

    They did not collaborate.
  • Terrible, terrible idea. Let Cornell shit on his career by himself.

IMO, Ed should venture a little more into Eastern-tinged music. He was definitely onto something with his collaborations with Nusrat.
  • the Roots and Eddie Vedder doing Masters of War......

i thought 'the outsiders' was one of the best tracks from around the sun, i love Q-tips verse, it makes the song. they pulled it off ALOT better on that song than their attempt with 'radio song' from out of time, that's appalling!

Lot of close minded people here. Can't believe people are dismissing entire genres of music.

Let's hope Jay-Z doesn't do a rock collaboration - we all know rock is shit, just look at Nickelback!

In other words, do what they've been doing for all their career...
  • If Ed is ever going to collaborate wiht anyone it better be with musicians older than him. Like townsend, daltrey, jimmy page, neil young. I don't like the idea of him collaborating with younger singers, it sounds very MTV.

I totally agree, that would be AWFUL.
  • Not sure about the R&b thing but I would love to see him collaborate with Jack White.

yeah, definitely...outsiders was fantastic, but radio song just seems cheezy
  • Any collaboration has to be done well. Obviously you can't just throw any two random acts together, but I think that the combined efforts of talented musicians could make it work.

If you want a good example of rock and hip hop - check out 'Dirty Water' by K-os and Sam Roberts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4od9G0CsKwE

I guess I have a hard time deciphering lines between rock, blues, r&b, hip-hop, rap, etc... Genres are artificially applied to music for both convenience and marketing. I am definitely willing to accept some crossover.

'Icky Thump' by the White Stripes is an example of blurred lines:
"All Americans want nothing better to do, why don't you kick yourselves out you're an immigrant too. Who's using who? What should we do? Well you can't be a pimp and a prostitute too." - I could see that being put down over some hip hop beats.

I'm not saying that I want Eddie and Pearl Jam to stop what they're doing. They have something great, and I want to hear more of it. But that being said, I bet they could pull off a collaboration with some r&b/hip-hop artists.

Personally, I think that 'I Am Mine' would be a good fit.

You have to remember that there's more to the genre than just the crap you typically hear on tv.

since you are quoting my post i guess i am the referred to closed minded ,

    or whatever

    i say bogus.

and still, please pearl jam never do this r+b thing.
and if youve been doing it the entire time anyway with certain guys , keep it going- its been a great ride thus far.

on a sidenote,...i feel sorry for the next generations of kids ( i have nieces / nephews ) and it seems the music they have to choose from is crap overall compared to when i was younger, maybe its just me or im just old .

does anyone actually sing or play instruments anymore ?

actually... pretty close minded to limit r+b to "rap"... al green and ray charles would be r+b too... not saying theres many artists out there of that soulful caliber anymore... but i think thats more what the OP had in mind... wouldnt mind seeing ed do something more along the lines of gospel either (now thats a far stretch considering his beliefs :D)

It was a bad idea the first time they tried it with KRS One, and it was a bad idea again on Around the Sun.

Yeah, REM has tried it, with shitty results each time.

Not everyone has to be able to perform every genre of music. Lets just let Eddie be Eddie and let Chris Cornell be the one who is the douchebag of the grunge era.

That's what every generation says when they stop listening to new music. Things were always better before... I think most people stop listening to new music when they get to about 25 or so. It really is a shame though, because there's lots of good music being produced right now...lots!

There's a lot of good bands, a lot of them just don't get played on the radio. I'm willing to bet that there was quite a lot of crappy stuff 'back in the day' as well. Although when the so called premiere rock group of today is Nickelback, I kinda agree with you :p

    you said it.
Good evening San Diego, I'm Ron Burgundy
And I'm Veronica Corningstone, Tits McGee is off tonight...
  • Beck and Ed would be cool.
Ed and Gnarls Barkley would be verrrry cool. Dangermouse could come up with something for Ed and Cee-Lo to shine on.
Ed and Ozomatli with Charli 2na would be the most up Ed's alley, I think, with the latin, hip-hop and rock feel but.......
I would most like to hear Pearl Jam do a song and have Slug from Atmosphere drop a verse and then Mike rip a badass solo.

It could totally work again. All you people that say it would suck need to open your ears and your minds.
