I think Eddie's voice is as brilliant now as it was 20 years ago...perhaps stronger in some ways given that he's ventured out from Pearl Jam to covers to his own songs and now to ukes. He can take on anything and do it well. I saw him in Long Beach last week and was struck by how flawless he sounded. I have nothing but respect for Eddie.

Yes, because Ed is almighty and infallible and completely closed off to criticism. You're the one being ridiculous. The poster, and other people who have made similar comments in the past, are simply pointing out the obvious. Oh and I can't speak for everyone, but the only reason I agree or would even bring the topic up in the first place is because I think he has the most impressive voice I've ever heard.

Considering the 20 years of joy that Eddie, Mike, Jeff, Stone, and various drummers have given us all..

Who gives a fuck about something like this??!!
I saw Ed in Detroit and both nights in Chicago.. I was completely blown away.. The man still has it.. and, depending on what you like from him in particular, some would say he is better than ever...

Men get old, voices change, fires burn out and others start.. Ed is still the fucking man and always will be in my eyes..

Not very many, probably including Eddie. Which is why it can be discussed freely with no issues.

I agree to some extent with the "quality" of his voice, not the "sound" of it per se. I was quite surprised how good he sounded in L.A. last week. Hadn't seen him live since the VH1 Rock Honors concert, and after seeing ACL, some of the Backspacer tour videos, and other recent clips, I was a little wary of how he might sound - but it was really quite good, much better than I expected. I think the music he was playing in that type of setting really helped.

I think sometimes he's adding that "H" sound to possibly sharpen his exhale and force a little more air into some of those notes. I just hope he doesn't strain himself too much on the next record that they have to de-tune all those songs when they perform them live - made some of the Backspacer tunes sound really odd to me.

    Plus, I like noodles.

I hear ya.. but i wonder if some folks consider what it takes to do what he does.. what it takes to sing and perform for us all after all these years..
I saw Dylan a few years back and he is one of my all time favorites.. and to sit through that show, watching a true hero to me, listening to how he sings now... Folks, we are all still very blessed.. complaining about an "h" sound?? Its just fuckin ridiculous to me...

Lol the only sarcasm I picked up on was the storming the official website comment. Kinda hard to hear the tone of his voice from here though. Either way, I was less directing the comment at Speedy as I was to anyone who get defensive when people make comments about Ed's voice. Haha.

i think some people are missing the point. no one is trashing him, everyone is on here for the same reason obviously - we all love the guy. but it definitely is noticeable that the voice isnt there for some songs or he is altering the pronunciation. i agree that he sounded great during this solo tour but generally those songs arent as much of a strain (although he bailed on the high parts of 'the end'). those who are saying he sounds the same are just being ignorant. i purposely dont listen to boots from 2008 on unless i have a reason to or its a show i went to because of his voice not being as strong. i do think it has more to do with the boots though because in person i really dont notice anything. for a healthy guy with a family i think hed be smart to try to quit. we all want him singing for a long time so i dont think it could hurt.

Yeah but there's a difference between being ungrateful and pointing out the obvious. The original poster did seem pretty annoyed. Eddie can't hold certain notes like he used to, but so what? Their live show is still amazing and his voice still takes my breath away. The only reason I'm even partially critical is because I know what his voice is capable of.
Oh and I saw Dylan a few years ago too and I agree, his voice sounded really worn out. Kinda painful to watch. He's also been around twice as long though, and has probably smoked twice as many cigs.
