This was my 5th time seeing Eddie solo, but my sister's first (she was STOKED, I surprised her with a spare ticket). We didn't have TC seats, which I was pretty bummed about (I had them the night before, 5th row -- THANK YOU TEN CLUB!!!), but her comment was "Dane, there isn't a bad seat in the house." We had floor but, pretty far back. We still had a clear shot of the stage. I don't think anything could have dampened her spirit, seeing Eddie. She knows all the words to every Into the Wild song, and has followed Pearl Jam's career vicariously through me since 1992 (she is 3 1/2 years younger). She was just thrilled to be in the same room as Ed, and just really wanted to hear Society. :P
Realizing that Glen Hansard was "the guy that sings that song?!?!?!" made the night even better for her, and when the two came out to duet Falling Slowly, she was in heaven. Other really sweet highlights; Crazy Mary...a song that she and I sing A cappella together when we are bored on car rides...my niece (her daughter), thinks it's hilarious. Let My Love Open The Door gave me goosebumps. I was hoping he would play that. Off He Goes is a song that reminds me of my Grandpa, and one of the reasons I stood in line for 10+ hours at the Vic to get front row. I really wanted to see/hear that song up close and personal and had a feeling they would play it that night (at the Vic)...and they did..and he did (at the C Theater). My sister and I had a tear over that one. And I got to hear Rise, again, which is one of my favorite songs in the world. That man knows how to write 'em.
I sat next to an older man, in from Hawaii who bought Uke songs on a whim. He had never seen Ed, and only vaguely knew of Pearl Jam. He was sooooo nice, and we got to talking. He was asking me some questions on the history of Eddie, the band, etc. So in between songs, or if I knew which song was coming up, I would do a little "Storytellers" thing and give the guy some backround. He was SO appreciative of that and told me that I made the show more enjoyable for him. He was standing up and clapping along and would turn to say "Wait now, they toured with the Rolling Stones?" He also read Into the Wild and saw the movie and loved the soundtrack...but had NO idea that Ed did the music. So it was pretty magical watching his eyes get huge when Setting Forth started. He put two and two together and turned to me slowly...I was like..."yep." When I was trying to jump out of there after Dream a little Dream, he grabbed me and gave me the biggest hug and shook my hand and said "thank you so much, I am so thankful I sat next to you." It was cute.
Anyway, this is long. Both nights were fantastic. I got to go to night 1 with a new friend and night 2 with my best friend, my sister.
Awesome! Thanks! For whatever reason or reasons reading this totally made my day!
aw, i am glad!! xo :P
I'm not lost, but I don't know where I am...David Byrne, Talking Heads
Picture.in.a.mother.f*cking.frame. This was my favorite moment of either night.
After reading some of the reviews from our crankier 10c members, I'm a little worried we were those assholes everyone is bitching about. I was celebrating my birthday. We were drinking, we were loving Ed, we were hugging, we were kissing, we were woohooing, we were crying, we were high fiving.
And I didn't care what anyone else thought. Night two couldn't have been any more magical, and made turning x5 almost bareable.
Must give a huge thank you to Davidtrios, the love of my life, for the best birthday EVER!!
Great show that night, I was very tired :? so it made it seem like a surreal experience to hear Betterman and Around the Bend.
Some firsts were Speed of Sound and Unthought unknown Just Breath slow Lukin (wow, completely different song), the crowd was going balls crazy. The power of a single man and an acoustic guitar! (with some help)
Crazy mary! Awesome! Never heard a stripped down version like that.
Was sitting next this this incredibly nice girl (Emily, I think?) and there were no drunken
dumb dumbs.
The previous night I was up stairs, was on the floor for this one, way better view and felt like a way better crowd.
Hussah! Can't wait for Alpine Valley!

Regal Theater, 1994--most amazing night ever.
