I really don't care what people do at concerts as long as it doesn't interfere with me watching it. People yelling out and cheering and crap in between songs, whatever, that's fine. But if you blind me with the ridiculously bright iPhone you have in your lap for half of the show or scream "Play Lukin!" near me every 2 seconds for half of the show, then it's my business.
Maybe it's not the symphony orchestra or anything, but at least people could learn to shut up while Ed's telling a story. Last night's crowd wasn't that bad, thankfully.

I'm getting confused now.....are we talking about "whoo whoo" or
are we talking "whooo hoooo"....cuz there is a difference.
One is acceptable and one is not
So let me ask this, did anyone tell Lukin guy to bring it down a notch? Or the guy to yelled at Glen that he was rude? If not then why not?
A lot of people immediately yelled at The guy who yelled at Glen. It was extremely rude. And then Glen mentioned it twice, so I assume the guy was somewhat embarassed.
As for the Lukin guy (or guys), it was being shouted a lot so I dont know. I wasnt so concerned with that so much because those came in between songs, versus during a song ot when Ed was talking.
I wonder if any of the the "yellers" at the EV shows are the same ones who criticize people for not "rocking out" enough at PJ shows?
That would be ironic!
ha ha..nice one..
btw thinking about you said.im thinking this..maybe ed,try to tell people how he wants to act during his show..
i mean, when you go to an opera, you know already, that there are 3 claping times..start,break and at the end..something simiral happens in theater play..maybe if ed as an artist want at his solo, where is a small venue,he is alone on stage kindly request that guys, dont yell songs, please respect my guest on stage..maybe some people will react diferent..from the other hand, some people wait for this for years and wanna enjoy and express them selfs..its hard to tell what is right and when this right becomes wrong..
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
I've been to several "sit-down" type shows before and last night was my first Ed show of this nature. The crowd in all honesty was about the same as it is with anyone else. There is always the idiotic people who think because its quite they might get to "talk" to the artist. Happens at EVERY show of this nature. They don't have to be drunk for this to happen. It's their need/want to be recognized. "OMG eddie heard me when I shouted out (insert dumbass remark)".
I've seen Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds 5 times, and Phish played an accoustic set last year at Festival 8 and asked everyone to sit down and chill out. It happend all 6 times and last night was no different. In all honesty there were points where it was a little annoying, but thats what you get when you go to a show like this. Just try, and I'm emphasizing TRY to tune it out. It can be difficult to say the least, but eventually they will stop. I thought last night during the songs most people were extremely polite and listened. During the stories it would get old, but a lot of people don't realize its NOT a PJ show. I understand most peoples complaints. We go there not only for the music but for the stories. Other people see Ed is playing the Chicago Theater and don't really understand what they are getting themselves into.
To the person who complained that "people were sitting down the whole time". Man that is what this show is. That is what every show of this nature is. They are supposed to be intimate, not a rager. It's like going over to his house and sitting there with some friends listening to him play and tell stories. Not a 4 night stand in Philly.
Everyone has the right to complain, but from my perspective last night was normal, and in some cases pretty damn good from a crowd perspective. Enjoy the music and the fact your one of 3500 people getting to witness this and worry a little less about the idiot in the balc screaming out lukin. Unless your sitting right next to him, then politely punch him in the face.
I wonder if any of the the "yellers" at the EV shows are the same ones who criticize people for not "rocking out" enough at PJ shows?

Ed has done this. He has told people to shut up. in 2008 it was way worse, and there were times he was getting frustrated from people yelling stuff. There were times he would start to say something, and people would yell out, and he just got annoyed with it so he stopped talking.
Last night in Chicago was WAY better than 2008, and from what Ed said, it was better than NY, Philly, Detroit. He said that he was coming up with funny things to say to the crowd to get them to shut up, and he thankfully didnt have to say anything the Chicago crowd.

I'd like to add that it is really obvious what the code of conduct is. Out of the 4 solo shows I have been to - in three of them he made mention that it was time to get our voices going or asked the crowd to sing along.
Clearly, screaming for footsteps during a story regarding how Ed feels about a song that was written in 1930 and getting the opportunity to play it in a building built in 1930 is appropriate. The winner from the three shows I attended was the gentleman who yelled PORCH (I believe) followed by the woman who yelled I LOVE YOU EDDIE during the story about the purveyor of the music store in NYC who lost his wife three years ago. Clearly these people are not only in tune with the vibe of the show, but they are obviously the trendsetters for the evening and we - the people who are riding the seats on mute and hanging on every word and every note are the big asses and should have stayed home. Nothing screams ROCK and ROLL CONCERT like a good version of Walking the Cow, Man of the Hour, Millworker, Girl From the North Country.... Seriously people, set two is when things start getting a bit more rocking but even then, take your cues from Ed - if he gets up - get up - if he holds the mic out or motions for you to sing - then sing.

ok,peole screaming porch and i love you eddie every 3-4 minutes during songs is stupid, especially in a small venue in one man show..good Boston was good show..but you cant be in silence all the show..u must express and sing the songs, exprress a feeling..the truth, the correct is somewhere in the middle..

I haven't been to these shows so I'm just commenting from an outside perspective, having read reviews etc.
A lot of people complain about the others around them, saying they should just focus on Eddie and not yell out. Listen to him and let him talk and sing what he wants. Which I totally 100% agree with.
But if you are noticing the people around you, noting their behaviour and whether they are looking at their phones or shouting out or talking - then YOU are not noticing Eddie too. You're too busy getting annoyed with others and allowing people to tarnish the show for you.
.
dude/dudette you can't ignore people hitting you in the head all night, dropping shit on you all night, screaming literally in your ear DURING a song. I know it is a concert shit happens, but as previously stated ED himself has asked at several shows for people to shut the fuck up during quiet songs in terms of yelling out and requesting other stuff. AS this goes on people get worried ed is gonna go all rock star and get pissy or walk out. in Milwaukee last year before they kicked the drunk fuck who openly and blatantly defied his repeated requests to quiet down Ed was on the brink of walking out practically. last night Some chick was excited to hear a song (immortality) yells out this is my favorite song- (awesome she gets to hear it) then she proceeds to talk during the whole fucking song! That just doesn't make sense to me, does not compute, error error.
enjoy the show by all means but respect the people around you in a quaint, mostly acoustic show.
We all want to enjoy the shows in our own ways totally cool with it, but have some fucking courtesy for others, and the artist performing for shits sake

There are appropriate ways to express yourself during an intimate singer/songwriter performance by one artist playing predominantly folk songs on predominantly acoustic instruments.
My frustration doesn't lie with the people who applaud the song when it starts or when it ends, it lies with the people that just don't understand that this is not a "Pearl Jam Concert". If you ever get a chance to attend a James Taylor show, do it, it is about as close to what Eddie is doing as I can give an example for. These aren't the types of shows where the artist draws his/her energy from the crowd and translates it into song - hell most of these songs are quiet somber tunes, so even if I am mistaken and Ed is drawing that energy for inspiration then we are duty bound to STFU.

Few things, I've taken folks to Ed shows who would NEVER go to a PJ show. And I know even more, so that's not accurate to say 100% of attandees are Pearl Jam fans. There is a growing awareness of Eddie's "folk singing" prowess, and this uke album ain't gonna deter that. Bridge Shows and Kennedey Awards show as well. Many many folks are coming to these shows in these beautiful theaters knowing exactly what to expect -- and find the attention whores quite bothersome. Mommy and Daddy didn't pay attention to you, eh?
That said, I've heard quite a few pretty hilarious exchanges as well ... in between songs.
It's the DURING THE SONGS shit that is most troublesome, and it's been nailed here -- my fer instance was Chris Cornell at the Fillmore, totally different vibe, GA show. And on the flip side, I had a dude near me say, "This guy needs to shut the f@*% up!" ... as I was singing (err, ok screaming) the first chorus to Yellow Ledbetter at Berk II -- funny, he didn't say anything the second time when the entire crowd joined in. :-D
