Great EV show in Chicago last night...BUT....

I had some freaking idiot in the row behind me (row MM lower level) who was giving half of us in our row Tinnitus from his damn sonic boom whistling. I also had 2 women to the right of me doing Wendy Williams "Woo Woos" in between songs. Ed did a great performance last night, but that was seriously the worst venue experience I have had... I sorely prefer general admission when it comes to this kind of thing.

Your first show isn't it? That kind of moronic behavior is kind of the rule for some people at ed's shows, sad but true :(

What got me was all the cell phones...this lady in front of me was on her phone the whole concert doing a crossword or something; the light from it was blinding. Why pay $84 just to sit there and play games on your phone all night, then leave before the encore? Doesn't make sense.

The show was amazing but like others have said the ignorance of some with the damn cell phones. SHUT IT OFF!!! And the ignorance of this one older lady who clearly must not have read the signs of NO VIDEOTAPING. And the other in front of me that clearly didn't see NO CAMERAS. NO FLASH. NO NOTHING. Pure ignorance. Their ignorance did not ruin it for me. I still had a FAN-FRIGGEN-TASTIC time. And I'm going for more tonight.:mrgreen::mrgreen:
  • No, not my first show, 2nd EV show, been to prob a dozen PJ shows...yeah last time in 06 I didnt have any issues, it really is a roll of the dice...I normally dont get bothered by people around me but for some reason last night was just a barrage. Seriously, who does "Woo Woos" anymore, haha... hopefully I will have better luck at Alpine Valley, right now I am looking more forward to the General Admission day, I can at least move away from those annoying bastards!

Also, how about the jackass to yell at Glen Hansard during his great story, I hope they threw that idiot out.

So people were cheering between songs? Man, what a bunch of inconsiderate fuckholes.

I loved the show and for the most part thought the crowd was great. But I felt weird sitting down. Why was everyone sitting down the whole time? It made it seem like no one was really into it....

I like how you generalize...I didn't have a problem with the cheering, more the sonic boom whistling from one guy behind me and two drunk woo woo girls...but yeah I guess I am the asshole. I forgot this is a free country where we can be inconsiderate pricks to everyone around us because it's our right. We should scream requests at Eddie every time he tries to talk and scream out LUKIN in between each song...I am sure he would love that.

think about it......what would it be like if everyone just sat there and clapped after each song......
hmmmmm......boring!!!....if you want to go to the opera or the symphony then go....don't go to
    EV or PJ
ps. yes the cell phones are brutal though

I guess it really depends who you end up sitting around with..ive seen ed in chicago for all three of his solo shows and thought this was his best crowd!! i was in the Middle balcony and the only issue was the asshole who made the comment to glen during his set after that it was great all around me!!

    Think about though...

Its a concert...People are whistling? People are drunk? Girls are Wooo Woooing????

Is it really any different than any other concert you have been to?

For the last week or so I have been reading peoples reviews of shows here. And its hard for me to believe why some people here even bother going. We wait a year or 2 for shows, we get all excited when we get our tickets, we wait patiently for the day to come.......Then after the show people come on here and bitch and whine about how other people were behaving? At a concert? Personally, I dont give a fuck how other people act at a concert....Its a concert!!!!

And this is nothing personal towards you...
There are 100 other reviews where people are just whining and complaining about other people at the shows....
    Take me piece by piece.....

Let me just say, I was at the Milwaukee show a couple yrs ago, and this was such a better experience. I actually had a great time and the people around me were great. Unfortunately, a lot of your good or bad experience is going to come from who is around you. We were on the main level near the back, and I was more surprised by the amount of people getting up during the show. I personally didn't want to miss a thing. Anyway, hope everyone has a good time tonight!

Also, the setlist was amazing. A truly great EV show!!!!

I agree with this but it is Eddie who wants everyone to sit down.. It makes me cringe when Eddie, after every few songs at the Ryman a few years back, would beg, joke and please with the crowd to stop yelling at him.. Some people are just arrogant enough to think that Eddie wants to hear their opinions during a intimate venue show..

  • I haven't been to these shows so I'm just commenting from an outside perspective, having read reviews etc.

A lot of people complain about the others around them, saying they should just focus on Eddie and not yell out. Listen to him and let him talk and sing what he wants. Which I totally 100% agree with.
But if you are noticing the people around you, noting their behaviour and whether they are looking at their phones or shouting out or talking - then YOU are not noticing Eddie too. You're too busy getting annoyed with others and allowing people to tarnish the show for you.
So really, complaining about people who aren't listening to Eddie means that you were watching them and so you weren't listening to Eddie too, so basically everyone's not listening to Eddie because they're all watching each other.

Personally, I never notice anyone around me at shows. Very rarely have I ever noticed what people around me are doing but I suppose this is a smaller venue and an intimate show.
It sucks when people don't know how to be respectful to the artists and each other - especially at intimate shows like this - but what's worse is that people take notice of it and let it damage their experience. Just ignore it, and focus all your energy on Eddie instead of the others around you. And then they won't seem as big of a problem and as annoying.
  • grizahamgrizaham Nashville, TN Posts: 340
You would definitely notice these people cause Eddie stops singing and asks them to stop, almost pleading.

At Ryman i had a few guys behind us throwing pennies at everyone trying to start a fight..

I am just hoping for non hecklers in St. Louis cause it is mortifying watching Ed beg them to stop...

I understand your point, this is the first time I ever "whined" or "bitched" about a show, I have been to over a dozen shows and never bitched or had a bad experience, but yeah I guess I am just being honest when I say that a few specific people made it an unpleasant experience last night, so it's just annoying that someone is going to tell me to go to an opera or symphony, acting like I get upset over any cheering at all.

And I am THRILLED that everyone here will be sitting in that 10club cage at Alpine....
Because when that cage gets out of hand...
And people are dunk, and obnoxious, and acting silly.....At a Rock Concert.....

You folks cant blame it on the drunkin frat boys, or the drunkin bimbos, or the people who just go to the shows to party, or anyone else.....
Because that cage will be filled with nothing but 10 club members.....

This is unfortunately probably true. And it won't matter that many of those so-called commoners will be 10C members who were shut out of 10C tickets.

  • Has anyone noticed that this is now 4 or 5 shows in a row where the artist has politely asked the audience to put the phones down and stfu?

Don't hate on the commenters that are annoyed at the whistles, cat calls, song requests or that people are sitting down. This is not a pearl jam show, this is an intimate setting with intimate songs being played. When the artist sits down and motions for you to sit down, it means sit down and listen to the song & enjoy it.

Just because people are sitting doesn't mean they are not into it. It means they are listening and enjoying the music in a way that ensures that everyone can enjoy.

Clearly the night progresses to a point where clapping, singing and standing are totally appropriate but for at least one third to half the night stfu, keep your phone in your pocket, camera off and clap after the song is over and if you want to scream out requests, go see your local PJ cover band and heckle them.

I thought the disruptive yelling was far worse at the Chicago show during Eddie's last solo tour. I wish the crowd had been a bit more lively - it felt weird to stay seated during the whole show.

I dont know about people rushing that 10club cage when it goes down.....

I have a feeling those people in that cage are going to be packed like sardines.....

There will probably be more people trying to get out of the cage....Than there are trying to get in....
