Why Seats??

I posted this in another thread but no one seems to be answering it soooo

I want to get VA beach tickets this week. It is an outdoor venue, yet there is supposedly reserved seating with lawn tix behind it.

I saw them in Albany at the Pepsi Arena a couple years ago and I couldn't believe how we had to stand in place at our seats on the FLOOR.
Whyyyyyyyy are they doing this now when other bands are still allowing general admission? If it is because of rowdiness and safety, why aren't bands like Nine Inch Nails doing it too? NIN at VA beach about 2 years ago was standing general admission with an option for cheaper lawn tickets behind the amphitheatre.

Why are the kids not free to rock out!? I'm not trying to see an opera or symphony....I'm trying to see PEARL JAM.
Thanks for any info/insight.

Roskilde incident.... NIN and most other bands have never had 9 people die at their shows...

It also gives seniority in the club a bit more meaning.

the band simply changed their views on GA on the floor after the Rokslide...seem to be a little more open to the idea of a GA floor - someone can confirm but I believe there were a few shows in 06' and all the festivals.

    yeah... they were...

I think it's good, I dunno if I'd wanna be on the floor if it were GA, I feel I can enjoy myself more staying in 1 spot and not bouncing all over the place...

Irving plaza was the only GA PJ show I've been to and it wasn't that bad as far as crowd.

I personally like seats. Sure, in GA you can get your ass all the way to the front without having to buy front row seats. But, with seats, you get your own personal space to rock out in, which I personally think is really nice.

I saw Primus in NYC last time they were around...

Worst GA experience of my life... then again Primus has some pretty crazy/terrible/big/trucker fans... and I literally thought I was gonna get crushed to death the moment they came out... my shirt was ripped my hat was gone... and I was bruised up pretty good... great show but a pain in the ass to just try and enjoy it.

Me and my buddy after the show agreed that we're thankful not having to deal w/ that shit when seeing PJ.

yes. and, as someone who was on the floor for one of their last domestic GA shows (Vegas, Yield Tour), it is definitely the right call.

Yeah so all the rich f*cks who can afford to pay 1500/ticket on stubhub get to be up front. Or the people with some computer hacking skills that buy 20 tickets and sell 19 of them.

I was in the front of the 2nd section in albany and I could barely see anything and couldn't distinguish half the notes slurring out of the speakers from that far back. And those were "mid-grade" seats. Such a diminished concert experience.

I understand that 9 people died but the point is, NIN is waaaay rowdier... I was at a primus show too and that was fine. It's just a matter of security controlling the crowds. It hasn't been a problem elsewhere. That was an isolated event and I'm sure there were factors other than the show just being "general admission" that led to it.

Since when did pearl jam fans turn into a bunch of yuppies?

    Message board tip #1:

Don't let your 4th post be one that knocks almost everyone else in the thread.

    Message board tip #2:

Saying "LET THE KIDS ROCK" in all caps at the end of your post does not make you cool or add clout to your argument

Call me an old-timer or whatever you want at the whopping old age of 24, but I'm with most other people on this one: I paid good money to see a show, and I don't need some a$$hole shoving me all over the place to get in front of me or feel up the girl a few feet away or whatever. Give me a seat to sit in and a spot where I can stand relatively un-bothered, thank you very much.

i was at the GA show in san fran. got shut out of the presale, yet still managed to get up front! that part was cool, and i would say about 99% of the crowd was totally cool and looked out for each other. its that 1% of douchebaggery that can totally ruin a good GA show. luckily for the most part it was all right, definitely a night to remember.

Personally, I prefer seats. Sure, it is partially because I have a decent 10C number so my seats will never be terrible. But it is also because I want my space to enjoy the show without having to literally fight just to not get pushed over (which was the case at London 07) and because I want my poster to be safe :)

Crowds make me nuts (I <3 xanax), but I love the vibe at PJ concerts, granted I've been to only 2 shows. I look forward to the energy of the crowd - not getting knocked into. Just stand up and sing a long and get a contact high. Be nice.

totally but i cant help that i joined the 10c in 94 and other's did it last year

senority is the way it is ,, when seating is involved

i pay the same price as someone 100 rows back

Most venues only have a few pricing levels anyway for concerts these days. I doubt it would be that different without 10C, considering that all the seats are pretty good. And as far as you joining in '94 and others not, I've got no gripes with the seniority system, but I think the fact that some of us were pretty young in '94 (I was 10) makes for a decent argument for the random seating deal.

understood that people werent old enough to join the 10c in the early days
but again me personally ..i cant do anything about that

the 10c decides senority is the way to go

at least some people have the chance to be close this mini-tour with the random rows thing

the fact is this good senority people want to keep it the same
    the others vice versa

    luckily 10c agrees lol

The way I see it you had the chance in '94 and you've earned it by keeping your membership up since then. If they go back to the old way after this I won't complain....even with my 1998 number I seem to move up a few rows every show...

Agreed on all counts (though I make it a point to not leave to piss, one advantage of not drinking).
