I severely sprained my ankle one year playing softball, fielding a ball at second base. My body went one way and my ankle went the other. Ouch.
It was the night before I was going on vacation to Cape Cod. Spent the entire vacation on crutches and had to do my touristy thing from a moped. Driving around Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard was a blast, but that sucker lasted for almost three months. The doctor said sometimes sprains are worse than breaks, and that was the case for me.
And the colors, oh so lovely, from puke yellow to bright purple and green. Lovely.
the gf had a small tear in her calf three weeks ago....after a couple of weeks, she was feeling better, so she went for a walk and than started to jog...two steps in...pop...pain is back. it clears up in couple of days, and than yesterday she tweaks it again.
we go on vacation in 2.5 weeks....
she's gonna be fucked.
a tear in the calf is completely different, I have no idea how long that takes to heal, but I would think any kind of pressure on it is dangerous until it does fully heal
so yeah, you're right, she's fucked
I'm telling you, mopeds are the way to go in this type of situation.
we'll find out soon enough the damange. she is going in for an MRI tonight. :?
i mean i can die in your arms nurse..i trust you..

Put ice on it asap and raise your foot up high on a chair or a bunch of pillows. Leave it on for no more than 5 minutes at a time, it may do more damage to your foot if you ice it longer than that, and keep icing it every 20 min or so in the beginning. Arnica gel also reduces bruising and swelling. You can find it at any health store. I've sprained my ankle a couple of times, last time about 8 months ago and I'm still not fully recovered. Takes a long time for an ankle too heal completely after this of type injury Hopefully your pain subsides soon.
please tell me you do house calls.

I've sprained both ankles >10 times each, and I'm a physical therapist: RICE it.
R= rest
I= ice
C= compress
E= elevate
Limit your weight-bearing for a while (use crutches if severe enough). Ice NO longer than 20 min at a time, never directly on the skin. Make sure the elevation is above your heart, otherwise it's a virtual waste of positioning. Don't forget the compression... ACE wrap at the very least. Aircasts can help with stability but are rather uncomfortable. My best suggestion is a lace-up brace, such as: http://www.google.com/search?client=saf ... 79&bih=600. These types provide major compression AND stability... I wouldn't have survived my soccer years without 'em. Lastly, DO take anti-inflammatories (they WILL help, despite being OTC/non-narcotic), but don't overdue it. More than the recommended amount can cause stomach ulcers and blood thinning.
Wishing you a SPEEDY recovery!
EDIT: Didn't realize this happened like a week ago, oops!
ice and ibuprofin speedy. 30 minutes on 30 off 3 times, just make an ice bath in your tub, it will numb and hurt like hell in the process, but feels great afterwards.
I feel for ya Speeds. I broke two toes yesterday and I can barely walk right now.

Just got back from the doctor where he took off my daughter's cast after 5 weeks (moderate to severe sprain) and he said, "Well, if you weren't going on vacation I would say we should put another cast on it for 4 weeks."
WTF? My daughter cried, I wanted to cry - we're going on vacation. Water sports, swimming, hiking and she's got a fucking boot thing now. At least she can take it off. But she can't water ski. Or play volleyball. He wants to see her when we get back from the vacation to "talk about putting the cast on again." My daughter does a lot of competitive sports, mostly swimming, and she's crushed.
Sorry, just needed to vent. Of course I want what's best for her, but sheesh...

just a sprain/strain
