Which McCready Guitar Solo is the best?

FrankieJFrankieJ Posts: 602
edited June 2008 in The Porch
I really love McCready's guitar solos during a concert.
He is just so good at it, and it sounds perfect.

What song do you think has his best solo in it?

Name a specific boot or album if it really rocks.

Hard to beat each and every Ledbetter at every show I've gone to.

My favorite is the Tibetan Freedom Concert version however. It's just Ed and Mike and the way he plays is awesome.

no doubt, the best solo both studio and live is Alive
there are a lot of other amazing solos, but the studio version of this solo....don't know how to describe it

The acoustic solo Mike does on the studio version of "Immortality" has got to be one of my favorite solos of all time. The Electric solo's he does in concert on "Immortality"are fucking out of this world as well

I also think the solo at the end of "All or None" is pretty much The Dog's Bollocks too.

    Mike is fucking brilliant...PERIOD

My favorite song right now by the band is 1/2 Full and it's totally because of Mike's playing on it.

i'd agree, that's mike's best corduroy solo, and the best the band has done with matt at drums (twas better with jack, IMHO)

also, the immortality mention is also very true. try nagoya (i think) from '03, which followed a sick jam.

studio version of GO. mike was never able to play it note for note again. it is amazing.

but the best mccready solo is the reach down solo on TOTD

The band started rehearsing songs written by Cornell on tour previous to Wood's death, as well as re-working some existing material from demos written by Gossard and Ament.[5] This was McCready's first recording studio experience, and he took a central role in the project. McCready performed an epic 4-minute-plus solo for "Reach Down". According to Chris Cornell, McCready's headphone monitors flew off halfway through the recording of the solo, and he played the rest without being able to hear the backing track.[6] McCready considers this track to be one of his proudest moments.[7

YES I totally agree with that. Amazing solo.
    Alive studio is great, too.

A lot of the time I like his studio solos more than his live solos.

I'd definitely say the studio version of Alive. Someone also mentioned 1/2 Full, Mike has had some sick live solos on that song.

studio-wise -- go and black. go is just blistering and black just gets into your soul.

also loved present tense to open the st. louis concert in 2003...wow...

and to close -- ledbetter in cincy 2000 when he went into nugent and van halen. fun stuff.
