That sucks! Did you get a chance to see the, before that last tour?

I had tix for the last show in Chicago for that tour. I wasn't totally disappointed at the time, b/c I needed the $$$ at the time and I wasn't totally into them then. Now lookin back I'm really sad that I never got to see them.

On Jack White: Without Mick Collins, there is no Jack White.

    End of discussion.

The way Jack White promotes himself and his record label is amazing. His music is by no means groundbreaking or inventive, but the things he is doing to put his name/bands/thirdman records out there are. The rolling record store, Thirdman location in Nashville with a studio/store/photo studio in house, the vault.....etc.

This is what makes him the man. Pearl Jam please see above.

I wrote a review of Rome his new project with Danger Mouse, Daniele Luppi, and Norah Jones - check it out over at Antiquiet (http://www.antiquiet.com/reviews/2011/05/rome-album-review/).

For the record, I'm a huge White Stripes fan, enjoy the Raconteurs and the Upholsterers, but never did really get into The Dead Weather. His work on Rome is great. Hope you like the review.

I think he's brilliant. He knows his shit about instruments, the music industry, many different musical genres, and just music in general. I'm a fan of everything he's done.

  • His guitar work reminds me of being very Jimmy Page like and I am not much of a Jimmy Page fan (go ahead and shoot me). I have always found Page's guitar work to be a bit too sloppy and over indulgent to be interesting. Not that he totally sucks, but of all the other guitar players from that era, he is not someone I enjoy all that much.

But when I saw the Dead Weather at ACL, I was actually pretty impressed with Jack White's drum style. I also dug the band and that first album. I find most of his stuff to be OK, but not really a fan except for that first DW album.

Jimi Page is a god. Jack White is the most overfluffed musician of the last 10 years. He's way too up his own ass for my liking. With that said he has some ok tunes. I compare him to Cobain. He's a decent songwriter but nowhere near the guitar player people think he is. Fuck you Rollingstone for putting him at number 17 on your all-time guitarists list.. Are you fucking kidding me . He couldn't shine Trey Anastasio's shoes and he's number 73.

I think you are wrong. The fact that he can play a guitar that is out of tune and make it perfect is phenominal. I don't think Trey or Cobain could/can do that.

:lol::lol: I guess you don't know much about Trey. He's the master of bending a missed note til it's in tune. Trey absolutely destroys Jack in all aspects of guitar playing. If you don't realize that, I'm sorry. You need to catch up on some Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAarSgI35U0. Trey is like Satriani with soul. Don't underestimate the ginger jedi ;). I'm not so sure Jack could play Clapton and Harrison's parts of this song at the same time. I KNOW Jack can't bring a solo to the same place Trey can.

I love this version of Good Times Bad Times. I know some of this is off topic, but Trey is by far the most underrated guitarist playing. It's always been this way. Some people just hate the scene so much they don't give the music a chance. Somebody asked Eric Clapton ten yrs ago: "What's it like to be the greatest guitar player in the world?" His response:"Ask Trey Anastasio" 8-)

Trey's a phenomenal guitarist, technically one of the best out there, but I prefer Jack's music.

What I like about Jack White? He takes the simple things and makes them sound great with his own sense of style. Plus his grass roots style of music and business sense is refreshing in this new era of auto-tune, over-dubs and our over digitized world. I'm not going to knock anyone else's styles, because I like a wide variety of music as well, but I like going back to the basics occasionally.

Jack white's music is great. All of it. doesn't matter which band. I do like the stripes best though, cause that's what introduced his music to most of us.

Fantastic song writer. Comparing him to the likes of Jimi Page is just silly. He isn't that kind of guitarist and is a much more versitile all-round musician and singer. It was a long time before I got around to listening to the White Stripes as I just basically judged them on their lead singles (Seven nation army etc) but there is much more too them then that.

The more acclaimed a musician/band/artist becomes, the more people will say they are overrated. Just the nature of the beast.

His passion for music is off the charts. From what he's done with 3rd man, to his work with the old timey gals like Wanda Jackson and Lorretta Lynn, just because he liked their old stuff. I mean the guy used to cut records and hide them into furniture he was hand making for crying out loud.
