I am just curious to see what people think of him and any of his three bands. I am personally a very big fan of The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and The Dead Weather. Just want to see if anyone else is...

I don't get it, he does nothing for me.

Everything he touches turns to gold, probably my favourite individual musician of the last 30 years (with a possible exception going to Ryan Adams). The man is a god.

While occasionally he does something I really like, I tend to think of him as incredibly overrated. I haven't cared much for The Raconteurs (who were surprisingly unimpressive live) or The Dead Weather. I really like his new song with Danger Mouse.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Jimi Page is a god. Jack White is the most overfluffed musician of the last 10 years. He's way too up his own ass for my liking. With that said he has some ok tunes. I compare him to Cobain. He's a decent songwriter but nowhere near the guitar player people think he is. Fuck you Rollingstone for putting him at number 17 on your all-time guitarists list.. Are you fucking kidding me . He couldn't shine Trey Anastasio's shoes and he's number 73.

I appreciate him and think he is talented, but his music doesn't move me at all. Not a huge fan, but I give the guy respect.

Think he's great, loved the White Stripes and his other projects while not as big a fan of I still enjoy. "Get Behind Me Satan" is one of my favortie albums. And if you've ever seen the "It Might Get Loud" documentary he's an interesting dude. Big fan of Mr. White.

Saw the White Stripes live and he was amazing. Great guitar player, but yes, not Trey's equal.

But Phish will never get heavy mainstream love.

    - Not my cup o tea as a singer.
    - Lyrics are hit and miss.
    - Overhyped as a guitar player overall, although he does create some unique sounds.

I didnt mind the raconteur albums that I bought, just don't listen to them very often anymore.

This guy is simply amazing. He actually is an incredible guitarist. Don't believe me? Watch "It Might Get Loud."
The guy can play. I love most of The White Stripes stuff. The second Raconteurs record is awesome. The Dead Weather stuff is cool for me, but a little more experimental. Still a nice listen though.

He should have kept The White Stripes together. Easily the most entertaining of his 3 bands.

  • It is interesting to read all of these and refreshing to find out that not everytone like the same music. I have been saying for years that if everyone plugged into the same records there would be nothing to talk about or no new music to listen too. Thank you everyone for your replies...keep them coming!

I love the Raconteurs and Stripes, and I think DW is pretty solid.

    Definitely overrated as a guitarist.

:lol: I gave up looking at that list when I saw Joe Bonnamassa wasn't in the top ten.
Jack White - some great songs but some dreadful songs as well.

Let's be serious,Joe Bonnamassa shouldn't have been anywhere in the top 50 let alone 10.

    A technical blues guitarist....Yaaaaaaak!!!!!!!

He's not my cup of tea. When the White Stripes took off, one of the local radio stations over-played a few of their songs to the point that I really started to dislike the Stripes.

I watched It Might Get Load and he came off as ... not fake ... but it seemed like his persona had some deliberate production values. Could just be me.

  • I agree that everything he touches turns to gold, but as a guitarist he is ridiculously overrated. I guess maybe part of the appeal is that you can learn any of his songs in less than five minutes.

His studio voice is bad. His live voice is worse

I agree. When it came time to sit in the little pow wow with Edge and Jimmy he seemed much more "normal", but some of that other stuff was a little silly. The little segment with YoungJack was just so outta place.

not sure if i would call him overrated...he definitely has a very unique style. and his work ethic is unreal. i'm a fan of all 3 bands, but i really love the work that he's done thus far with The Raconteurs the most. (and i really, really like the other bands, btw)
    I LOVE MUSIC.

Jack just has such a unique style, nobody else sounds like him, and even though his projects are different, they all sound like HIM and that's what I think is so cool.

You guys think he's that unique? I've always thought his lack of originality is what made him original. He does have a distinct sound, but I've always wondered if that was just a product of being compared to other modern music.

I think the fact that he sounds nothing like anybody else in this era. His Dead Weather stuff is awesome, love the mix of old blues with the heavier sound. He takes music that is rooted in something very old and makes it something very new (IMO of course).

I really enjoy all the stuff he's done. I like the white stripes the best. I had tickets to see them on their last tour, but they cancelled the remaining shows a couple days before I was going to see them. I'm still bummed about it.

Not to be 'that guy' but that's a shame. I saw them in Canada and I'm sad about what happened, because they definitely had 'it', I've never seen a guy play with that much passion.
