Thanks For proving your Innocence President Obama.

He should never have had to. End of story. All the other presidents didn't have to publicly do it.
i think that was tonifig's point.

if the state officials in hawaii were saying he was born there all along why did it become an issue?

when did it get to the point in this country where people will not believe the truth, but will rather believe in a manchurian candidate conspiracy theory?

i am still convinced it is because he is an african american and for no other reason. no other president in history has been more scrutinized over his background, birthplace, education, or anything. mccain was born in the panama canal zone for fucks sakes... trust me, they will find some other way to try to embarrass or discredit him.

gimmiesometruth, i am agreeing with you too...people don't question Caucasians because they assume they are American...unless they hear them speak with an accent. Minorities are always judged by their colour or facial features right away...and people are surprise when they don't have an an accent and speak proper English. Could we even fathom what would have happened if the candidate was Asian-looking???

Just speculation, but having spent a significant part of his childhood living in a foreign country along with a very non-traditional name were the most likely catalysis in the theory.

There you go with the race card again. It has nothing to do with race. Get over the shit.

What is it about? The President has to show his proof of citizenship before running, right? The extremist just couldn't accept that as enough evidence.
The issue is race and the issue is religion. Most of these people were hoping a religion would be shown... They wanted to see Muslim on the certificate, but didn't get that either..... Now it's time to move on to his Grades!

Is the President innocent now? What a shame.
If only Obama was white...and had a different last name. Then this wouldn't be such a big issue and our President wouldn't have to stand in front of the White Judge to prove he is an American Citizen.

It's not about race. You can say it is all day long. Are some of those people racist? Of course they are. Not all, but some. It's just dumbass people being dumbasses. But is it based on race or religion? No. You throw race around like it's nothing. Maybe your the one with the race problem?

yes Shimmy i was agreeing with you too.
if i ran for president, what are the chances that they would make an issue of my place of birth? i am a husky white, redneck from missouri. to the birthers, teabaggers, and those questioning obama, i am about as benign and non threatening as you can get. hell they might just vote for me on those credentials alone...

I agree Jason; his race may play a role or be a part of the combination of the things you mention above. I think these things you bring up are part of the parcel, especially in light of events in the past decade. Now, some people who are racist may use these things as 'exucses' to probe him, but I think they explain some things/fears.

yes, this is a good point, but I just feel that all of those factors combined made people wary. Unfounded for sure, but wary all the same. I don't think it's strictly a race issue. For example, I know he's a 'celebrity' and all, but say if Denzel Washington ran for president, I don't think anyone would question his citizenship. Know what I mean? ;) And, along your point, I believe it would be helpful for the US president to have a history of studying abroad at some point. :)
just another thought---Denzel---they might question his motives since he portrayed Malcolm X AND an American Gangster. But every president's motives are questioned. Just par for the course; some of this insanity was expected with him being the first African American president.

Jesse Jackson would be a good example, as he has mounted two presidential campaigns in the past.

I totally agree with this!! I don't think it's really a race issue (but that's just me because race is irrelevant). Um, wouldn't his birth certificate have been 'checked' by someone long, long ago???? It's just bizarre.

He DID present his birth certificate when the issue was first raised, back in 2008! (And I'm sure it was checked before he was ever allowed to run for president.) The problem is that people still said it was fake and wanted ADDITIONAL proof. They might still say this one is fake and expect him to produce even more proof, and then people will say he should have produced THAT proof a long time ago. It's a no-win situation when people don't care about facts.

kinda seems like a race issue to me. every white guy that took the presidency before him was taken on their word that they were born in this country. I think it's ridiculous; the first time around should have been enough, it should never have come to showing his actual certificate.
