Not familiar with him but I'm glad they skewed older this time. Looking forward to seeing how Craig Ferguson talks about this on his show, he and Capaldi are old friends.

Yeah for some reason I was hoping he would be older too. He seems to be a big fan which is always a plus.

aww man!! im so excited for this now! but time warner cable took cbs off so ill have to wait til tuesday morning. :(

Capaldi I know from The Hour and he had a small role in the first generation of Skins. Both roles he plays a very much brooding sort of dark character, not exactly what you'd call 'chipper'

It seems like a very stark contrast to Matt Smith's tigger-esque doctor, so I'm wondering what's going to happen in the 50th anniversary & xmas episodes. Since the show's reboot it seems like the Doctor has been 'lightening up' with each generation. I'm not saying Capaldi can't do that type of character he seems like a great actor and probably could, but if he plays the role in that darker, haunted man type of way that i've seen him do before, it certainly begs the question of exactly what is going to happen that will send the Doctor back into a more serious type of personality.

I think that's exactly the point, to change it up a bit. Personally I'd like his level of darkness to be where the 9th doctors was. I think some of the older doctors were a little TOO dark, it almost directly contradicts the purpose of the doctor, like the 1st 3rd and 6th doctors, they were a little to "win at all costs and I'm better than everyone else" type characters. I like the mentality of the 2nd, 4th, 7th and 9th doctors, they are all for peace but don't mind bending the rules a bit when it's for the greater good. My favorite mentality would be that of the 5th 10th and 11th doctors but like I said I think it's time to change it up since we've had 2 in a row like that, then hopefully end with a 13th doctor that is like that.

Oooh, boy. Here is the thing: I love that they went older with this Doctor. I love that they went with a veteran actor who can handle comedy and drama with equal aplomb. It's an added bonus that he is chums with Craig Ferguson, one of the coolest guys of all time. Yes, he was in a very prominent role in The Fires of Pompeii. fine, that can be hand-waved away I suppose...BUT.

    BUT.

This is the actor that played John Frobisher, one of the most memorable characters in Torchwood: Children of Earth, a role that is forever seared in my mind with some pretty heavy scenes (will not spoil anything here for anyone who has not seen it) and as I understand, the Torchwood universe is the same as the Doctor Who universe. Captain Jack is the head of Torchwood, for goodness sake! MASSIVE SPOILER: Frobisher put a hit out on Captain Jack! and now he's supposed to be the Doctor?

argggh. it just doesn't sit well with me. http://cdn.uproxx.com/wp-content/upload ... rdrage.gif

Well i'll withhold judgment until i see him in action but going just on appearances i'm a little disapointed.

I liked having a younger doctor.

    Hey!! Hey sign this!!!
    http://www.tinyurl.com/TARDISNYC

It's a petition to light the Empire State Building Tardis Blue on November 23rd to celebrate Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary. These people: http://nyscifi.com/ have submitted the application and they have gotten support from some DW cast members too. So sign the petition, it'll take 2 second and it'll be sooooo awesome. :D

If they do this I'll take photos and post it here. But keep in mind I take really, really, really terrible photos. But I'll do it anyway. Just for you guys.

That's fucking bull shit, what's the big deal? Check out google.com today though! Pretty sweet. I'm dressing up in my tweed jacket and bow tie and sitting with my Dalek and Tardis pillows on the couch today to watch The Day of the Doctor. CAN'T FUCKING WAIT!!!

Did anyone watch An Adventure in Space and Time? I missed it but I've been hearing some pretty great reviews.

That was pure awesomeness!!! Watching the 3 of them interact with no plot what so ever would have been good enough for me. Also there seemed to have been a lack of Moffat plot holes that there usually seems to be with his stories. I give that an A+ for sure.

Did you get "no more war" playing in your head during this episode? Cuz I sure did! :-D
