Yeah, I tried listening to some of their 'best' and I'm just not digging it for some reason. Mad respect for their musical talent though!
    for me:

    1) too precise. the reason I like bands like Nirvana and don't care for shredders either.
    2) the lyrics. I just can't get into them.

Love Rush.  Easily the greatest Canadian rock band and Neil Peart is one of the greatest musicians to come out of Canada…

I will say this....even as a casual semi-fan, I do regret never seeing them live. they came here a number of times and I always passed. figured "maybe next time". no next time. oh well.
Only band I've seen live more than Rush is Pearl Jam. And that wasn't always the case.

Love Rush....I didn't care for much of their stuff after Signals until Snakes and Arrows came out with their tour.  Their last two albums were pretty solid.

2112 is amazing live. RIP Peart

Moving Pictures is a great entry point. That was Rush at their most popular. Permanent Waves is another one of the more accessible Rush records.
I honestly don’t think anyone can go wrong listening to 2112 and Farewell to Kings but those records are less accessible. Hemispheres really shows off their musicianship chops.
Just my opinion but if you listen to Moving Pictures and like it, there is a cornucopia of musical delights awaiting you.

    they are their own thing.

might suggest streaming a random playlist of the catalog. see what grabs you then go from there.

    there's a certain idealism lyrically.

enjoy the ride. excited for you.

    That gets you started

The opening trifecta of Spirt of Radio/Red Barch/YYZ is kickass

I’ll agree with this, ESL is my favorite live album of many that they’ve released. For me getting into Rush is best hearing or seeing them live, that was ALWAYS my attraction to the band. To the point that I saw them live 50 times since 84’ the Grace Under Pressure Tour. After ESL you could venture into Different Stages their best sound recording or the one most older folks like live All The Worlds A Stage. I hope you will enjoy.

Oh yes Nandi B. is special. I posted over on A Moving Train in The Trains Lounge Car. I even posted where Alex saw that video and it brought him to tears. I also posted an image of her on the cover of Modern Drummer from last year a feat not easy to accomplish. That 11 year has that infectious smile that can light up and enegerize this world along with her playing. Oh I love what she says at the end of her playing of TS.

I’ve seen this band RUSH 50 times and every time I would say, it’s amazing that these three guys can make such beautiful noise. Outstanding video and such a great song….my favorite lines from the song…..

All this machinery making modern music
    Can still be open-hearted
Not so coldly charted, it's really just a question
Of your honesty, yeah, your honesty

One likes to believe in the freedom of music
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity, YEAH!
