There is defending your country and there is commiting atrocities that go beyond 'terms of engagement'. They are responsible for carrying out these atrocities (same kind as carried out by Milosevic or a number of others being tried for war crimes).

Whatever 'side' one may be on....

Wouldn't you do the same if your country was invaded?

And that is very sad. But on the flip side, I work with a Serb whose whole family has been killed by the croats (parents/brother/wife/2 kids) and he was held in a 'camp' for month (no reason - not political, not a combattant). His family/ancestors had been living in Krajina for generations. For them, it was their land as well.

War is bad - whatever side one is on
Wasn't operation storm backed by the USA????

Not really a reference, is it?

Again, whatever side one comes from, if one commits atrocities, one needs to be accountable for them. Full stop.

So if someone invaded and occupies and don't want to leave, what do you do, just accept it?
We're not the ones who planted land mines and raped, murdered.
Take a look at what happened in Srebrenica!

And Red Rock, yes it was a reference, the USA backed Operation Storm.
So did Clinton break the rules?
If the USA were okay with us taking back what is ours then why are we now getting punished?

Sorry - when I meant is it a reference, I meant like 'good reference'. Does the US backing make it all OK? No, as we have seen a number of times.

I am not saying that one needs to take things lying down and turn the other cheek.

And yes, Srebrenica - an atrocity. Amongst others committed by ALL parties (eg against the Serbs in Bosanska Posavina). That's what I'm trying to say. Of course one must defend one's country/liberties, etc. but this is not at the 'detriment' of civilians. Murder, ethnic cleansing, rounding up innocent people, etc.

As you are aware, former Yugoslavia had three different 'people' living together. Historically, there have always been 'issues', whether based on ethniticy, religion, etc. Not one of these three main groups can claim to be completely 'innocent'....

War mean pain for ALL involved.

All I can say is we never invaded another country and committed crimes on foreign soil.
Think of my people what you will.
    Enough said.

It's not about what one thinks about your people. It's about the few who have committed war crimes and need to be punished. This does not reflect on a whole population, whatever the nationality/group. This is how hate between groups is perpetuated - not a good thing.

Crimes were committed by all, whether on 'different' groups on 'own' soil or on foreign soil. The result is the same.

blood, death ,pain has no color and nationality...its sad....Croatians is good people,i have actually alot of friends..the problem in war is people has the gun in their hand.wear uniform and find enemy weak do horrible things..from both sides..again..Balkans is the most tough area..cos has the best stratigic place in the planet...all want to take advantage..thats why yogoslavia isnt a unite country anymore..thats why F.Y.R.O.M.is a country from nowhere..wait to see what will happen when the oil from Aegean sea will be up..etc..

  • I agree that the crimes committed by the Serbian military/ paramilitary were by far the worst but there was also quite a big number of innocent Serbian victims.

Karadžić still thinks that the massacres were "justified" !!!

I think that there is no way to "justify" the torture and killing of thousands and thousands of innocent people by no one.

dimitris your dead wrong buddy...I love the energy you bring to the forums....but i know all too well. My cousin who is now married with a child of her own, was a few years old running from bomb shelter to bomb shelter cause the Serbs bombed the shit out of the Dubrovnik area......There is war and then there is genocide. Barbarians have no seat at the global community table imo.

We all seem to have personal sad and traumatic stories. From this conflict, I have some from the Croat, Bosnian, Serb and Kosovan side. Same kind of stories, same sadness in the end.

Edit: my quoting going all wrong!

The international community fucked up this conflict royally...The US(My country) sat under Bush Sr not wanting to get involved. But he was more than happy to assist Kuwait around that time....I wonder why???? If someone comes to your town not playing by the rules of engagement....its time to take off the white gloves and take care of business. If the Croats stayed put....things would be different now

Actually...I don't know when it was more "fucked up"...before or after the "international community's" intervention!

^ I know what you mean...I was 10 or 11 in the early 90's. I went with my parents to the UN as a sign of solidarity with the those looking for a peaceful solution. What I meant was...its funny what a country like the US(World Police) sees as an oppurtunity to help. It usually has oil in that country.

Bush and Baker etc. didnt want to set foot in a civil war. Yet Jr. and his boys act like potential for a Iraqi civil war was never there...yea right. Sorry to compare 2 different conflicts, but I feel its relative to the big picture

Libya is a civil war(oil) we are there, involved. How bout Darfur...I guess its not a place we can be for 50+ years with military bases and no bid contracts
