Artificial Double Tracking was created during work on The Beatles Revolver.

Those two things alone changed the way music has been recorded ever since.

I suggest those of you saying the beatles are overrated actually sit down and listen to rubber soul thru abbey road. Their musical evolution and creativity in that short period of time is something that no band has ever done.
Don't forget about Rain being the first song to use backward recording. And "I Feel Fine" being the first song to have guitar feedback on a record.

Vote for Metallica over Zep - ha that's a good one. :lolno:

I did vote for PJ over Beatles even though it's a lost cause. I'd never vote for anyone over LZ.

Totally agree with this. Compare Rubber Soul & Revolver to anything that ever came out before then. Before The Beatles, an album was maybe 1 or 2 hits and a whole bunch of filler, at least in the pop world. Ever since, we've expected our favorite bands to give us a dozen or so quality songs, and maybe even have them all tie in with each other. They changed everything. They made rock & roll music on par with jazz (you might say they, along with R&B, killed jazz for a while).

As good as PJ are, c'mon people, lets get serious.
There is no comparison between the Beatles and Pearl Jam. They are legendary. It's not even remotely close.

    Pearl Jam aren't legendary?

They are a Legendary American Rock Band, unfortunately there are far more historic bands from overseas.

They are a top 2 American Rock Band in my opinion ever. So many others had the chance but singer died. Hendrix, The Doors, Chicago, Nirvana, Lynard Skynard, etc.

Chicago was good until Terry Kath died. Then it went downhill.

That's my point. Those early Chicago albums are genius in my opinion. Terry was amazing.

I completely agree. Terry was amazing like you said, but soo underrated. Even Hendrix said Terry was better than him; that's saying something. The first Chicago album is incredible; Terry absolutely kills it on Poem 58.

    Over Hendrix?? No f'in way.

I think you almost have to put Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, ABB, Aerosmith and Metallica above them.

I'd make damn sure CCR, Tool, Van Halen, Petty, Black Crowes, SRV, Skynynrd and GnR were all in the conversation. Prolly to duke it out for the rest of the top 10.

Maybe not Aerosmith, but Metallica almost without a doubt. They're the biggest metal band ever. The rest deserve to be mentioned right along PJ any time you talk about quality rock and roll.

Maybe Metallica is in the discussion but really, they don't have shit on Pearl Jam when it comes to live shows.Ive seen em both multiple times. Metallica has definitely lost a step or two to father time. Not to mention they haven't made a good album in 20 years.

What does that have to do with anything we are talking about. That doesn't get you in the top 5 American bands of all time. If he didn't die at 27 he would most definitely be on that list as would Nirvana but......
