The futility of the faintly wailing siren is so unnerving.
Heartbreaking.

Wow. And figure, with the time of day, lots of people were at work. No time to go home and retrieve anything _ or even if you're home, I'm assuming you run like hell.
The images that really blew me away were the ones showing the surge of debris flowing over fields. The velocity was amazing.
Edit: Here it is... and there's a vehicle on that road, driving away. I hope they made it.

that is correct i heard the same thing
Of my innocence... got back my inner sense...
The wave was moving that fast, not the actual water.
Our deficit ain't shit. I was just thinking how I could help them. In the end money is nothing.
When the giant Yosemite supervolcano blows and destroys North America, I hope someone comes to our aid. I'd like to think we lend a helping hand regardless of the cost.
Our country is broke because it is run by morons. Doesn't mean we can't do what we can to help people. Gotta make up for the stupidity somehow.

I think you underestimate the rest of the world. Hundreds of millions of dollars of international aid was offered to the US following Hurricane Katrina and most of it was turned down ... and some of the aid accepted was just left to go to waste.
Here is a list of countries and organisations (including the European Union) that pledged aid
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internatio ... ne_Katrina
I hope that Japan gets as much aid as they need.
I am really worried about this.

We can't find my uncle.
One of my mom's oldest friends is in Sendai and we can't get a hold of her.
They have projected the death toll may be over 10,000 people.
My father's hometown is 80% underwater.
One of my closest friends I've met through Pearl Jam is sitting through aftershocks measuring above 5.0 and worry that his friends, colleagues, and the rest of the country are okay.
You seem very young, but probably not much younger than me.
We both probably have a lot to learn, but for you I think compassion should be on the top of your list.
Maybe you should open those eyes of yours and read how much money your government spends on the war.
"omfg", its like, a "trillion bazillion" dollarz'.
If you want to complain about your deficit, you can start with that, instead of complaining about aid. Even the poorest of this continent, of your country, of my country, are richer than 70% of the world's population. Of course, in your apparent new-found wisdom of your country's affairs, you know that 1/5 of your country holds 85% of the wealth too. So while you're worried about the deficit affecting the greater good of your country you complain about foreign aid being the problem, and not the tax breaks all the rich get? Of course, you'll probably cry "Socialism!" - assuming, you are old enough to know what that is.
My country is projected to spend 29 billion dollars on fighter jets we didn't need. Do you know that's equivalent to the GDP of Liberia, Sierra Leone, Togo, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, and Honduras combined? I also calculated that 29 billion dollars could rebuild Haiti, knock it all down, and rebuild it once again.
Wars and jets aside, I have to watch as my father tries to cope with the fact that 10,000 people are assumed dead in the prefecture he grew up in. The place where he can't get a hold of his brother or many friends. I would much rather see my money go towards HELPING people, especially those in a catastrophe, than going towards killing.
Well, that's just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own. You are entitled to yours, but as someone who is a part of the same generation as you, age is no excuse for being ignorant. And callously complaining about your country's "own damn problems" when entire towns are being wiped out - not only in Japan - is ignorance.
MY
GOD.
thank heaven for all those kind, compassionate, giving Americans that makes the ignorance displayed on that site a little bit palatable.
Still it makes me ashamed to live in this country.

And hey, at least you don't have Justin Bieber running around the world saying we don't have "German" in Canada
