I went to several places yesterday and got the best vibe from the hub pub.
Hub Pub - liked, need directions for everyone
Sweetwater-good possibility
Sidebar - Closed
Fajita Rita - seems like a quick bite restaurant
Rock Bottom - I guess we could, but I like character in a place
Jacbo Wirth - If we want privacy I suggest this place
Kennedy's - right next to the hub pub and more $$
Beantown - too small and too packed.
JJ Foley's-honestly didn't try to find
I walked up and down each side street in the area to make sure we didn't miss anything.
So what do people think?????
Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.... (Voltaire)
Hub Pub sounds great. Thanks for doing the legwork, jecica. Hey, did you hear back from the Wishlist folks about whether we'll be able to do a fundraiser either night, or just a meet-up?
Oh, and I saw that Crazy Breed posted this Google maps link earlier with directions from the bar to the Opera House. Maybe we could edit the first post of this thread to include the relevant information?

Since we don't have a good count, should I bother reserving tables? Friday we can't, but Saturday yes.
How will we identify ourselves? Have at least one person in your group wear a PJ shirt? (to annoy the people who think it ain't right). Hold a red carnation or particular color scarf?

just look for people with a big-ass smile on their face!!!
EDDIE! EDDIE! EDDIE!!!!!
who is showing up early like me? i'll probably be in Boston by 12 or 1-ish
i'll probably go straight to the pub for lunch and a few brews followed by a walk(420) to the commons.
anyone know if the hub pub is 18+, might have someone comming who is under 21...just wanna know if they could get in (not to drink)...is it like a restaurant too?
it is a restaurant too but someone said they card at the door(this will be my first time there),so i guess the best thing to do would be to call the pub and find out.

I THINK if you get there early enough say 4 or 5 they do not card.
Actually I have been MANY a time after work and have never been carded (nor did they have someone at the door so save the "You're getting old duuuude", jokes.)

to this day i get a little green whenever i hear/see McRib.

Hhahaha! Nice! I hear ya on the McRibs!
So good going in....terrible on the way out!!!
I just got a random PM from someone stating: I Love McRibs too. It was hilarious!
Anyway, I'm gonna try and make it to the Hub Pub, that is if I can get my drunk fat ass out of the Sidebar. (Which is unlikely because I will be playing Golden Tee all day)

Beantown Pub too small? HUH?
After the bar, Beantown has a big back room with pool tables, but more importantly a private side room (pretty big) that can be reserved for free, which would be perfect for a pre-party.
Hub Pub is actually smaller. Also, Sidebar is not closed, the store front next to it is closed.
As someone who has frequented these three bars on numerous occassions, Beantown is the better of the three....especially for handling a function.

Do any of these places validate parking? Just asking.
No. Park in the Common for relatively cheap...also behind the Boston Common movie theater there are a few cheap lots (close to the Opera House).
For real cheap, try and find a parking meter spot (up Tremont past the common, or on some of the side streets). You will have to feed the meter for a few hours, but then it shuts off at 8pm for the rest of the night.
Or park outside the city at a commuter lot and take the Green Line to Park Street.

Where were you last week???? You could have saved me a trip!!
Without reserving a function room (we don't have enough people to justify or fundraising stuff) the Beantown Pub bar area is smaller unless we play pool. It gets really crowded and I was also taking that into consideration.
Sidebar was closed at 2 pm on Saturday...
I am down to changing it, just someone make the decision and have CrazyBreed post it on the front page.

Beantown Pub is cool with me.i haven't played pool in years!
or Hub Pub,whatever has more room i guess.Taft seems to know these places the best.
Comments
Walking The Cow, obviously
Or almost obviously
....I'll probably only go back a couple more times.
Your absolute best bet for parking is to park underneath the Boston Common in the parking garage.
Enter on Charles Street, the road that bisects The Common and The Public Garden.
5 minute walk
....I'll probably only go back a couple more times.

Some of the other places are probably better options, but it should be considered, especially for the location.
There is also the Kinsale, which is a bit of a further walk.
beantown pub is pretty close too
