O'Reilly gets his butt kicked half the time by the viewers that come on to debate him. You might not have noticed because he just starts shouting at them when he starts losing the debate.
Bruce and Ed would make him cry.

it's not!! not by anyone with any semblance of common sense.the problem is sense seems to no longer be common.0 -
I've never really understood why Fox is considered such a joke for leaning to the right when every other news outlet in the country goes left....explain to me how that's not true if it isn't.
And those who speak their minds whether it be Ed, the Boss or O'Reilly should never shy away from the opportunity to debate with folks who aren't their "choir". O'Reilly makes the rounds on the talk shows, why shouldn't folks who disagree with him go on his show and answer the tough questions, give their opinions. Now doing that would supposedly go a lot further toward changing attitudes and opinions than grandstanding at a concert
O'Reilly's show is there for everyone to watch if they so choose with little effort....a Bruce Springsteen concert is, however, not readily accessible to everyone, so, yes, pontificiating at a concert is preaching to the choir in large because most everyone at a show has the same views. Unwllingness to debate in public or on a TV show that frequently expresses viewpoints opposing those one holds and believes in makes no sense to me....wouldn't one who truly believes in what they say relish the opportunity to do that? All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

And always makes me laugh when I hear what Americans call 'left'.. which is moderately conservative at best by the rest of the world standards..0 -
Pegasus wrote:well, from what I've seen of it, Fox isn't 'leaning' to the right, it's a pure propaganda machine for the extreme right.
Exactly.
I've worked in the media and the journalists I knew were serious about getting the story right and guarded against their own biases, as did their editors.
Fox sets out to tell their version of a story. Their radio news spots are actually worse than Fox News if you can believe it.
It's certainly not journalism.

right and left is a control system, divide and conquer if you will.
O' Reilly doesn't want to debate he just wants to shout his masters orders.none of these shows are a forum for truth anyway and just because Ed or Bruce or anyone for that matter wants to talk about the war or incite thought, doesn't make it "preaching to the choir"
dissent & questioning authority is as American as it gets(more than apple pie)whether I'm doing it at a bar or they do it on a stage makes no difference.0 -
so whats the deal are they really going to interview him like they did with the bossOut of the Blue and Into the Black................Uncle Neil Philly 08 here I come!!!!0

did it say that for the show that Liam started at 7.30?
just wondering because the person I'm picking up the ticket from is meeting me at 7.30pm only..I'd like to see Liam though.
You're right...TM says 8pm....that's when Liam will go on. I'm guessing doors will be open at 7. The Wiltern is all GA, right? I wonder how long people will be waiting in line to get up front.
For the Santa Cruz and Berkeley shows, Liam went on at 7:30, doors opened at 6:30.0 -

I thought the seats were assigned...pretty certain I saw seat numbers on ebay and shit.0 -
Yellow Ledbelly wrote:No, talking about war or inciting thought doesn't necessarily make it "preaching to the choir" but limiting such talk to concerts certainly wouldn't be as fruitful in getting those viewpoints across or inciting though (and thus possibly changes in thought) as appearing on a show which has an audience that largely holds opposing views....one might say preaching to the non-believers. At concerts, more often than not, they are preaching to the believers. O'Reilly's show or Anderson Cooper's or any other show might not be a forum for truth, but they are damn sure vehicles for sharing opinions whether everyone agrees with those viewpoints or not. I can't stand Hillary Clinton but if I turned the TV off every time she came on and never listened to a word she said wouldn't I be missing out...only listening to the viewpoints of your favorite "preacher" creates a pretty narrow view of things in my opinion
And I don't believe I or anyone else said dissent and questioning authority was a bad thing...it's a damn nice right to have!!
Ed or Bruce going on O Reilly wouldn't be better than them talking at a concert.at the concert are people who love/respect them, people who would be more inclined to listen as a opposed to O Reilly's audience who would have nothing but contempt for anything they say.
like i said, those shows are not about debate they are about sellout assholes shouting over any intelligence that may dare to contradict the propaganda they get paid so much to spew.0 -
Crazy Breed wrote:at the concert are people who love/respect them, people who would be more inclined to listen
Hence, preaching to the choir. Obviously you aren't getting the point I am making. Maybe going on O'Reilly would be a waste, but it would damn sure be an opportunity to make him look like the fool some many believe he is....plus they could share opinions with people that might not necessarily LOVE/RESPECT them soooooo very very much and maybe, just maybe, change the way a few of those people think.....hell, they might even get one of those people to LOVE/RESPECT them too!!!All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

Maybe that's a risk that they should be willing to take, then: going onto a show or something similar where they do not neccesairly have the popular support. Who knows, they might change peoples minds. Talking to people who "love and respect" them, that's cool and it can certinally inspire people. But at the end of the day, it's really 'preaching to the choir' isn't it? I mean, in the long run, what does that really achieve?
I'm not just talking about that O Reily show, because I do agree that the man is quite manipulative and has a habit of blowing things out of proportion. But there are other shows.0 -
